    Camo on a rifle hunt?

First of all NewHunter, welcome to the brotherhood of hunting. We are glad to have you. The question you pose has and will be debated forever. Truth be told, most camo is designed to appeal to the hunters' eyes more than to fool game. Catclaw makes a good point about muted colors working fine and avoiding being shiny. Many a whitetail deer have been killed by folks wearing a checkered flannel shirt and jeans. Maybe most important of all while hunting in general, is to move slowly and as little as possible during shooting light. Most game see movement instantly but have a harder time spotting you if you remain still. Lee

QUOTE (cw4192 @ Aug 22 2010, 08:49 AM) Maybe we can put in for an illegal tag one year and start shooting them. thats the only way they will ever stop Thanks CW, Although obviously cognitively challenged in addition to a severe case of overcompensation syndrome you have to give CW credit for having the guts to post his version of the "ultimate solution" to our border woes. I have heard and seen similar sentiments here and among my peers. Maybe its time to update our ancient morale codes that seem so outdated in our modern world. The old eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth deal should be amended. How about this. Messing up deer hunts, trespassing and littering equals DEATH. What do you think? Bob cw4192 and bobbyo; Really? Suggesting murder as a means to stop illegal immigration? Come on, that's just ignorant. Lee

    Crossroads....

effenjeff, This forum is great in so many ways but sometimes I get dejected too by what I read. It is discouraging to read so many stories about so-called sportsmen and outdoors enthusiasts lacking ethics and integrity. But every time it gets to me I read a story that encourages me about a true sportsman or woman through this site. Stories about great examples of ethics, conservation, camaraderie, and just plain caring about your fellow human beings and God's creation really bring it back home for me. So even when I read something disturbing or that I don't agree with (usually politics), I take heart in the fact that there are still folks out there that care about the outdoors and the experiences they offer as much as I do, and hope that it continues on for many generations to come. Hope you don't give up bud, we are already outnumbered and can't afford to lose another soldier in the fight. Lee

    Idiot

Don't feel bad bud. I just went to the bank to cash the refund check from my wife's deer hunt application. Stood in line, endorsed the back of the check, then realized the check is in her name and she is not on my account at this bank.

    Coues' Poses

I like to have them in a pose I remember the buck in when I first saw him. It makes it easy to visualize them and re-live the whole experience.

    God Bless our Troops

Going to Great Lakes to see my son graduate from Navy Boot Camp this Friday. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve to be a medic. Think he will probably get activated and sent overseas soon after he finishes schooling in March but he tells me I worry too much. My family's prayers and best wishes to everyone who has a loved one overseas in any service and a big Thank You to all of our service men and women. Lee

    AZ pronghorn units

During this lull waiting for fall draw results, I have a question I would like to ask of everyone. I currently have 18 bonus points for pronghorn and am likely to get drawn in the draw next year. I have never spent a lot of time scouting these guys since drawing a tag seemed so unlikely for so long. I really don't know if I will ever get drawn more than once for AZ pronghorn, so I would like to give myself the best chance to hunt some B & C goats. If you were me, what unit(s) would you apply for? No secret spots please, just the unit you think is tops. P.M. me if you don't want it displayed. I plan to start scouting this summer and fall while travelling to different parts of the state so I may come up with some ideas of my own too. Lee

    36b

It has been a while since I hunted 36B also but it seemed like the closer you were to the main Arivaca-Pena Blanca Road, the less traffic we saw. You may see some stragglers on and around that road but not serious traffic. Lee

    Archery Practice for the boys

That Zack sure has a unique way of nocking an arrow. That could be scary with a broadhead. Those boys are both shooters!

    New rifle question

I own a Winchester in .300 WSM and absolutely love it. Nothing wrong with any of the other manufacturers mentioned but I prefer the Winchester. Mine is about 7 3/4 lbs. with scope and it is more pleasant to shoot than my Win. Featherweight in 30-06. My .300 WSM shoots better than I can. Lee

    Leftover tags

A lot of factors go in to most of the leftover tags being in the southern units. Many years ago they issued 8/9000 WT tags for the south half of the state, you could hunt in any of over a dozen units. Then they started issuing hunt and unit specific tags. Then they have increased the amount of tags issued on these WT hunts several times. Most recently they added the 4th hunt in most of these units when there were historically 3 in each. Then you throw in all the border nonsense that scares away most of the less than fanatic WT hunters and you have a recipe for annual leftover tags down south. Lee

    Drew The Wrong Tag?

Unit 31 is the Pinalenos (Mt. Graham). All the Safford area guys can tell you, there ain't no Coues in that country! Get a refund. Just kidding. It would be tough to give that one back for a refund and not hunt that country. Lee

    Sick Coues Doe

Hate to even say it but she is showing some symptoms that I've heard are common to Chronic Wasting Disease. God I hope she doesn't have that. It would be nice for G&F to test her. Lee

    2009 Father Daughter Elk Hunt

couespatrol, Great family times. Great photos. Well except for the big group shot which is ruined because you let that guy sneak in to the photo on the far right. I understand he is family and all but some guys should just never be allowed in hunting photos. Just pulling your leg. Tell Robert, Lee says, "What's up?" Lee

    AZ pronghorn units

I considered archery hunting goats but I already had 12 or more bonus points and could not bring myself to use them up to sit in a blind with a bow. My stalking skills aint good enough to try spot and stalk either. I am going to use my .300 WSM for this draw. After that, I will probably start applying for archery though. Thanks for the input though. Lee

    AZ pronghorn units

Thanks Doug, that is a great resource. I will follow it.

    AZ pronghorn units

Doug, You are right that is one of those units where you need 19 to 20 BPs be reasonably sure of a chance at a draw. Others are a little more in my favor but I wonder if I should start putting in for one like that for the next couple of years.

    Anyone remember??

Looked up last year's thread and results were posted on the afternoon of July 24, 2009. I'm guessing Friday July 23, 2010. I don't think I can hold my breath that long!
