Thanks Allen. I realized the photo did not work and I have edited the post. Lee

Just wanted to add my .02 dryfly. I own more hunting dvd's than I care to admit or than my wife can stand. That being said I have a new favorite. I received my copy of Extreme Coues this weekend and have burned my eyes out watching it. Awesome video of awesome deer! Some great shooting too! Love it Jay. Keep those kind of videos coming. Lee

Shortpants and COOSEFAN's adventure
couesdiehard replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Way to go Jim! That is some sweet looking country. I have wanted to do some backpack hunts for whitetail also but I have found that is hard to get more than a mile away from the ATVs anywhere that I hunt. I usually just let the other hunters push the deer into little pockets like you found instead of hiking all over only to run into more quads. Congrats again! Lee -
Thanksgiving leaving for the Kaibab for my wife's 12AE hunt. Have to wait until Dec. 15 for my 34A WT hunt. Oh yeah, I am starting to go crazy! Lee

azyoung, That is awesome. I guess he got his looks from his mom. Your son that is. The deer kinda resembles you though! Ha Ha. Lee

On the Boone & Crockett web-site, Trophy Watch page they are saying this one is already under suspicion. It may have been a "canned" hunt in Canada on some kind of game farm. The link to the web page is in the other thread under miscellaneous items... Lee

I can believe it. One of the worst things you can do to binos is leave them in intense sunlight because heat will expand the gases inside and cause seals to expand. If the lenses were hot enough and placed in cool enough water they certainly will crack. What the heat or cold temps would have to be, I don't know. High quality glass or not would probably crack. Good news is you have a good warranty with Minox (and I think your glass was made by Leica) so you should be alright. More guys mess up good glass leaving them on the dash with the sun shining through the windshield. Good luck and get them in for repair asap. Lee

I sent my Leica 10 + 15 x 50 Duovids in for repair, ( scratched the objective lens in a fall). Lense replaced binocs like new and no questions asked. about $35 shipping was all it cost me. It was heck waiting for them to be returned though! The reason I bought the Duovids was so that I could wear them around my neck at 10-power and then tripod mount them at 15-power, and it works great. You can't go wrong with the warranties for Swaro or Leica. Lee

What do you think?
couesdiehard replied to DesertBull's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Sounds like they probably drink together. But if memory serves, the "other" guy preferred harder liquor. Lee -
Mr. Quimby, Again you have stated your point well and I stand beside you in our fight to continue hunting as a tradition for future generations. I may be just a little more stubborn than you in that I want to keep hunting as I know it or improve upon it. I feel that if G & F issues 60,000 deer permits with 95% of the tags being for Oct and Nov hunts and with little to know chance of getting drawn for a Dec hunt occassionally we lose a large part of the tradition. You and I and folks like us will hunt until the day we die. If you want to discourage those that aren't as passionate (yet) you do one of two things: make it difficult for them to even have a chance to hunt, or make the experience as unsatisfying as possible. Crowding too many hunters in an area for one hunt that can be tough anyway will discourage many right out of the gate. I can hear these folks now who complain, " I never get drawn even for deer in Arizona." Their phrase will turn into, " I am not going to hunt anymore because even if you get drawn you can't find a deer for all the people stepping on each other." They will cease to apply anymore and then we have lost. The hunt is all about the experience, not about bagging an animal. Mr. Quimby I have a lot of respect for your opinion and I thank you for the opportunity to compare our opinions. Always a pleasure sir. Lee
-
Mr. Quimby, I personally am upset at the thought of taking away opportunity for a special hunt so that more people can hunt at times that I consider less special. Sir if you consider a "rut bull elk hunt" to be the same as November general bull hunt with 10-15 times as many hunters, I have to disagree. If you consider a Dec. WT hunt in say 36B to be the same as an Oct. WT hunt in the same unit with 5-10 times as many hunters then again I have to disagree. I work harder than most anyone I know to get drawn because I love to hunt and I am happy hunting during any season I get drawn for, but I want to continue to have a real chance at getting drawn for a higher quality hunt every few years. I may not be a hunter of your caliber but I love the experience of being on a hunt while the bulls or bucks are rutting, whether I tag anything or not! If you believe selling more tags to deer hunters in Oct will increase hunter numbers in the long run you are mistaken, in my opinion. Game & Fish will be adding "more hunter opportunities" (surveyor no survey)so we are going to see in the long run if you are correct about the increase in hunter numbers. Thank you for asking for my opinion. Lee

I use the Snipe-Pod and I really like it with one exception! When the packaging says not to use the bipod as a rifle-rest its for real. Bumped 2 different rifle scopes out of alignment in one hunt before I learned the way to make a rest out of the Snipe-Pod. Also if you buy one I would suggest getting one that you can use while sitting. If you only extend it partially it works great in the prone position. Lee

My wife and I both got a survey and I started to fill it out earlier but the questions suck so bad I had to stop! Stupid questions like "In a ten year period how often do you think a hunter should be able to hunt elk? I wanted to ask a few questions back to them. Like, do you mean bull or cow elk? General, muzzle-loader, or bowhunts? Do you mean rut hunts, late season or limited-opportunity? I mean I fill out surveys for G & F regularly but this thing is so manipulative it ticked me off! I came away with the definite impression that the questions were written to elicit responses that indicate hunters would like to hunt more, duh. But then they can take those survey responses, tell us we want to hunt more and take away more trophy opportunities and sell thousands more lower quality hunts. It turned my stomach! Lee

2006-2007 COUES WHITETAIL BUCK CONTEST
couesdiehard replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Doug, I plan on entering the contest again, just want to talk to my buddy and see if he wants to get into it also. I was trying to think of something I could donate as a prize. We own a bridal shop so if anyone would be interested in winning a gown or something speak up! Ha Ha! Lee -
Our Rifles Can't Shoot Worth a Hoot
couesdiehard replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Casey, Let me pass on a little exercise I invented to help shake "buck fever" BEFORE you fire a shot. Just make sure your rifle is sighted in(done), scout hard, go to deer camp, and begin hunting as usual. Here's where it gets interesting. When you first see that monster buck, line him up in your sights, then pull out a big handfull of your best handloads and throw them as hard as you can in the buck's general direction! After getting rid of the jitters, you can settle down line the buck up in your sights again and shoot him with your first shot fired. Oh you still fling a lot of bullets before you hit a deer, but it's a lot quieter. You can actually hear the buck laughing at your lousy throwing arm right before you drill him. Hope this helps. If any of you are in the 36s or 21 or wherever and you see hundreds of perfectly good 30-06 or .300 WSM rounds (other than being weathered)scattered around, I would surely appreciate you returning them to me. With all the lions hunting them, I think they like the ocotillos because it's a mother to sneak in on them in such open country full of thorns. Lee

Travel trailer. I am finally going to bite the bullet!
couesdiehard replied to More D's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
A few suggestions. Make sure you have a built-in generator. Go for big water storage in the area of 100 gallons. These two items will make it possible for you to stay away from civilization for a long, long time in comfort. Also, if you even think you will want quads someday, get a toyhauler. Just lessons I've learned. Hope they help. Lee -
Have seen them feeding on the ocotillos after the rain and they leaves are extended. Have seen them feeding on forbs and stuff and bedding most of the time on those ocotillo hillsides.

Coues World record at Cabellas
couesdiehard replied to vegasjeep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Hey guys had to do some major resizing of the photos but here's a picture of Stockwell's buck at Cabela's. Here's one that I like better, because they didn't put on such a small bodied animal. I will say that we have seen Coues with a lot of these traits of body and head shape but Stockwell's does seem like way too small of a body and head for the rack. -
now the work begins

Instead of actually getting in shape I decided to read a book by someone who is in shape. You know sort of "fitness by osmosis". So I picked up "Backcountry Bowhunting" by Cameron Hanes of Eastman's Bowhunting Journal. This guy is insane! He works so hard all year round getting him self ready to backpack for a week or more at a time in wilderness miles from the nearest trail. Marathons of 26 miles on roads weren't enough of a challenge for this guy, so he has started running ultra-marathons like 31 miles on mountain trails. I am tired just from reading the dang book! I sure am glad this guy hasn't caught on to Coues deer yet! Truthfully, tremendous book for the bowhunter or backcountry hunter at whatever level. Pretty inspiring stuff. Lee -
I'm thinkin' of buying here!!!
couesdiehard replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
On that street there are many coues deer bucks! "As many as the stars in the sky!" Problem is that they all disguise themselves as PETA members. Nasty business I assure you. Best stay off that street wearing your camo! Lee -
COOSEFAN, Sorry about that darn company came over and drug me away from the computer. No I wasn't the guy with the 19A tag. Me and my boys were kind of over on the other side of the shoe dept. most of the time but I thought you looked familiar but couldn't place you. I think I had seen some of your postings on the site with your picture, like your 2-pointer. Anyway, we left the Sportsman and drove past the Discount Tire and I stopped to point out the sticker to my sons and then I realized where I had probably seen you before. Next time, I definitely shake your hand and introduce myself. Lee
-
I am sure I posted this in another thread or two, but I drew Dec 34A WT and my wife drew 12A east late hunt. Muskrat, cohofishing, TRiesgo, and anyone else who drew 34A Wt, make sure you have those CWT stickers displayed. We plan on scouting during the Oct/Nov hunts and hope to meet some of you guys in the process. Best of luck to all. Lee
-
Hey who's Ford 350 with the CWT sticker was at the Discount Tire at McDowell and Dysart? Was it you COOSEFAN? I think it might have been you that I saw in Sportsman's Warehouse looking at boots. I had my twin boys with me and we were looking for boots for them. Lee

Have hunted for years in 36B and some in 36A. There are tons of lion (too many) in 36B in particular. I know of a draw in there that is littered with deer bones most of the time. Don't even go down there without a lion tag in your pocket. I have seen 2 lions while hunting down there, just never connected, yet. Lee
