C'mon, I know somebody needs this thing!
-
Ok, I got this 12' bass boat in a trade awhile back, and have decided I'm never gonna use it. Looks to be in pretty good shape, the front seat has been dog chewed but the back seat is fine. I'm open to trades for a firearm or make me an offer, I should probably just get rid of it. Here's some pics, let me know if you're interested:

Sweet, I love my 870. What load did you smoke that fox with?

What are your thought on Predator Control?
huntingfool replied to IHunt2live's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
I saw a show on TV awhile back, about a big high fenced area in southern az. I don't remember the specifics, maybe somebody here does, but the jist of the show was that the only variable controlled in this high fence area was the lack of predators. The deer aren't fed, I don't recall what their water source was but obviously there was one. Anyway without predators the fawn survival rate was like 99% and the herd multiplied like crazy. The conclusion was that predators make a huge difference in fawn survival. My own thoughts are that lions must kill more deer than coyotes, but I'm sure the coyotes do their part too, especially on fawns. But I've seen and heard of coyotes running deer. Especially coues deer, they are so small. They are flat out scared of coyotes. I've seen them running from coyotes several times. Mulies hold their ground a lot better. -

This is not uncorrect...despite his other statements in general. -

I need .243 brass! -
I'll relate some observations about deer season so far. I've seen 3 deer hanging in camps. One I know was shot at around 8 in the morning, and when we drove thru at 2:30pm with our buck they had it hanging by the head, hide on, esophagus still in the neck, in the 70 degree desert heat. This was saturday of the nov 7th during the coues hunt in 36B. The body cavity wasn't even washed out and the blood was dried and black. Most or all of that meat must have went bad. AND during the early mule deer hunt in 36B I saw two bucks skinned and washed off, but were hanging in the mid-day heat. 11:30am and nobody was in camp. Hanging by their heads with esophaguses still in the neck. I bet all three of those deer were lost. If you don't care for the meat I bet you can find somebody who does. Shooting these animals and wasting them really bugs me. NOT calling anybody out here by the way...Anybody else see this stuff going on?

Take care of the meat guys!

Exactly!!! And when you tell them this they just look at you like a cow looks at an oncoming train. I guess that's why everybody shows up at my house to eat my burgers. I get the "your elk tastes better than my elk" all the time. -
What up Chad!!! Heard yo uwent out today, any success?

Casey misread his schedule I guess and had today off, so I ditched school and we went out to the same area to see if we could find any leftovers. Casey's friend Chad also came with us. It was a cold morning with a good frost. First 3 stands were dry. The magic happened on the fourth stand. We set up in some thick stuff, Casey and I sitting next to each other and Heavy Drop about 20 yards on the flank. We're packing shotguns and Chad had his 30-30. So we set the scorpion to lucky bird and set. About two minutes in a see a white face coming hard at maybe 60 yards thru the brush, so I didn't move but just clicked off the safety. Casey heard that and looked over. As I did that I could see more movement behind the first dog and thought "double"! As the first dog cleared the bushes in front of us I thought "I'm gonna let her go by and get the second one, maybe we'll get 'em both." Sure enough that first dog came screaming in, and her mate was about 20 yards behind her. As soon as he came into the clear I locked onto him, letting him get as close as possible, and figured I'd open up when Casey did. When the first dog got about 10 yards from us he opened up on her, and I swung on the second one. He was still charging hard after Casey shot and a spilt second later I put it on his face and let some #4 buck fly. He went down but popped right up and kept coming! I shot again and missed and heard Chad shoot and saw dirt fly just behind him. He veered to my left in between me and Chad, dragging his hind leg (not sure how I hit him there), and when he cleared behind us I got a good bead on his head and put him down. From the time I first saw that dog until the shooting was over I bet was less than ten seconds, those dogs were SCREAMING. Must've not ate for a couple days. Anyway hope all that made sense, I'm still shaking just writing it down! Amazing, I've never had them come in that hard. That was my first shotgun dog and a first double for both of us, man what a ride. Incredible day. Last 3-4 stands were dry except a few mulies (one spike). But that double was a day-maker, I'll have a big smile on my face for a long time. We'll try to get some pictures up later of the set-up. Here's us being He-roes.

Cool, I'd love to see one.

huntingfool replied to huntingfool's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I don't know we always gut them first. The hide needs to come off but it won't ruin the meat if it sits for awhile, especially if it's cold. Personally I think you lose too much meat boning them out in the field. I like to get the WHOLE animal out. I keep the hide ON until I can keep it clean. Skinning before you gut, I think you're gonna have trouble keeping dirt and sticks off of the meat. But to each his own I guess. But I can say for certainty that laving the hide on for a little while is fine, our animals are always tasty. Keeping them clean and cold seems to be the main thing. -
I like to put in where I think I can get one. Don't mind so much whether it's big or not, just so long as it's made of meat.

$600 do anything for anybody?

Well a lady I work with bought a new Ruger LCR with lasergrips and now she has to get rid of it. I sold a pistol for her awhile back so she wants me to try and sell it for her, so here goes. She never got a chance to even fire this pistol, it is brand new in box. She paid $630 plus tax from Diamondback police supply here in Tucson, which comes to $680 with 8% Tucson sales tax. She's asking $625. The gun's in Tucson but I'll be in phoenix this saturday the 11th, probably at Cabela's. This is the only picture I have of it, if I get it in my possesion bofore the sale I can take better pics. It comes with the box and whatever came with the pistol originally. Notice the sticker still on it, SHE HAS NOT SHOT THIS PISTOL! That's a good deal on a brand new one, save sales tax.

Well Firstcoueswas80 and I went out to some new country today to see what we could call in. Stand 1 We're shotgunning in the thick stuff, casey set the foxpro in a small wash and set up on a little hill. I went around and sat kind of an open bowl on the back side. Five minutes in I guess a dog came right to the foxpro but was behind a bush so casey passed him up. Then at seven minutes I hear Casey shoot twice. Had a dog come up behind him, but boogered when Casey swung on him. They both got away. Stand 2 This stand looked thick from the road but when we got out there is was semi-open. Looked great. As soon as the call starting running the sun came out and was right in my face, so I could only see half of the area I wanted to. Anyway at three minutes Casey saw one roll in and out without getting into shotgun range. With a rifle it would have been a dead coyote. At 7 minutes I see one leaving. I misjudged the yardage and sent some shot his way when he stopped. Turns out it was like 80+ yards, and he booked it. With a rifle he'd have been a dead coyote. At 9 minutes Casey had another come in just out of shotgun range and stop, then left. That would have been 3 dead coyotes on one stand if we'd been packing rifles. Stands 3-5 were dry Stand 6 We set up in some semi-open stuff at like 10:30am. At two minutes I see one rolling in. He stopped on a hillside at like 150 yards. Of course he stopped behind some brush and the only shot I had was at his head and some neck. I put the crosshairs right under his chin and sent a 45gr pill his way. Well I saw dust fly and he booked it over the hill. Casey's still giving me crap about that one...I maintain there must have been a branch that deflected it (there was plenty of brush in between us). So there you have it, 6 stands, 6 coyotes, and not a one hit the dirt.
