    Eagle creek above Morenci

I have never been up there myself, but I know some guys that make an annual 4-wheeling/camping trip up there. Looks like fun but you better be ready to get wet and muddy, even in a Jeep I'm partial to the 79-85 Toyotas with a straight front axle (hence the name azyota). Hard to beat for the money.

    Officials euthanize AZ jaguar

I'm also wondering why so many seem to jump on G&F every chance they get. I'm probably missing something but it looks like a tough job with pretty much ZERO chances of making everyone happy. I feel bad for the cat, but it does sound like it was on it's way out. Unfortunate for everyone involved...

    Angie's 1st Big Game Success

Great story, thanks! My wife will go with me scouting and shed hunting, but has no desire to hunt herself. But, she does cook some pretty mean wild game dishes. That is when I'm so lucky. Congrats, Pat

    357 ammo for pigs

My father and I put in for the HAM hunt and I'm going to let him carry my 357. I have never hunted with a pistol before, so I don't know what's a good choice for pigs. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pat

Archery Pig during the HAM hunt.

So one thing that's been bugging me about the pig I got. When I was skinning it I found a kind of a tube just under the skin in the belly area right next to the incision I made to dress him, but not into the meat that contained some kind of parasitic worm about 3-4" long. I didn't take a picture of it because I was trying to not think about it. I'm pretty sure the meat is fine, and I didn't see anything else out of the ordinary. The worm like I said was about 3-4" long and about 1/4" in diameter. I only saw one end of it. It was almost earthworm looking in it's shape except it was kind of an off white cream color. dang parasites just give me the creeps...
  9. Friday was going to be my last day to hunt this season and I picked up a pig with my bow. I got a bit of a late start but got set up and started glassing. Within just a few minutes I had a herd of Mule Deer glassed up about 800yds out. I watched them for a while as the sun got a bit higher and realized there was a good size herd of pigs just down the ridge from the deer, so the hike was on. It took me a while to get over to them, but by the time I got there the deer were between me and the pigs. I watched a pretty decent 3x3 feed within 40yds of me. He was really wide. These pics are from when he was closer to 60yds out. Too bad deer season was over. A little closer look I thought sure the deer were going to bust out and spook the pigs. I had to wait for a long time for the deer to finally pass buy. Then I had a herd of cows staring at me. I had to wait them out for the same reason. I thought sure they were going to spook and take the pigs with them. By the time I got past the beef farm I thought sure the pigs would be gone. Finally I spotted some of them about 60yds away and they were moving downwind of me. One of them winded, or maybe saw me and started woofing, then another walked out at 20yds. One shot and he only ran off about 20yds. I'm shooting a PSE X-Force with Gold Tip 7595 arrows and Rocket Sidewinder-3 mechanical broadheads. The exit wound was massive. I didn't take a pic of it but I did take one of the prickly pear cactus that the arrow blew threw after going threw the pig.

    357 ammo for pigs

That's exactly what I found at the Sportsman's in Tucson. Mostly empty shelves. I asked one of the guys that works there. He said they haven't been able to keep ammo in stock. As soon as it comes in people are buy 10+ boxes at a time. Don't know how true that is, but that's what he said.

    357 ammo for pigs

Thanks for the help! Right now the only ammo I have for that pistol is Fiocchi 148gr semi jacket hollow point in 38 S&W Special. I'm going to stop in Sportsman's Warehouse and see if they carry the Hornadys. Good luck to everyone that's pig hunting this weekend.

    Last Day of the Season

Man it was close today but no cigar. I was camped out on a smaller 3x3 MD, when a pretty decent Coues (~90") pops out chasing a doe. I switched plans and made a quick gameplan for the Coues. I got to about 80yds when they both jumped a fence and went over the ridge. I got over the ridge but never saw them again. Oh well, next time!
  19. 209" what do I win? Nice deer!
  20. I have been looking for a tripod adapter for Monarch ATB 10x42's. Can't find anything at Sportsman's Warehouse or Cabelas. I have found these from Nikon but they look like they will dig into your chest when you carry the binos on a neck strap. http://www.nikonhunting.com/accessories-tr...apter-camo.html I don't really want to pull the mount off the binos everytime I take them off the tripod. Anyone seen or using anything better? Thanks, Pat

    Muley in regression?

I was bowhunting today and saw a Mule Deer like none I have ever seen before. He was a spike with one spike about 18-20" tall. The other was about 8" tall, but didn't look broken. Both spikes were really thick. For a spike he had some mass. The other thing is that he is still in velvet. Is this something typical of a MD in regression, or is it just a goofy looking buck? Also, when the does were standing there trying to figure out what I was, he was getting outta Dodge!

    Muley in regression?

I never thought about him being some variation of a cactus buck. He was running with Does, and he didn't look that old. At least he wasn't white faced. With that one tall goofy shaped spike he reminded me of the dog from How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

    Invitation to Tag-Soup night!

Struck out today so I guess I'm in. I missed a pig with my bow back in January. Then I spent the rest of Jan. looking for two nice Muley bucks that I had been chasing for about three years. In Jan of 07 I thought I had the bigger of the two. I was at full draw waiting for him to step out from behind a Palo Verde at 18yds and a doe winded me and bolted. he ran of to about 80yds and stopped. Anyway, the last day of the Jan 08 hunt I found out that the same guy got them both. One in the Dec 07. archery season. Then he got the other one in Jan 08. Don't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure one was 196, the other was 204. He hunts off a horse. I think that's a big advantage in some of the thicker flatter country. That's my excuse anyway.... So, I spent the entire month looking for deer that weren't there. Rifle Coues I have a better excuse. I put in with my dad and he just can't get around Coues country so good anymore. We spent most of the season glassing from the road. I think that's probably going to be his last season. The last day I went out by myself and put in a pretty good hike into some of the tougher country. Glassed a nice buck at 640yds. Tried to close the distance but never saw him again. I just hunted the last 6 days for MD and only saw a goofy looking spike. My worst deer season ever. I need to find some new places. My old stomping grounds have too many houses and too many hunters these days. Happy New Year!
