My prayers are with the little girl and her family. We will pray for her safe return. The person that did this will get what they deserve. I don't know how anybody could want to cause harm to innocent children.

Hey guys I was just wondering if you guys knew anything about the Savage longrange hunter. I was thinking of buying one in 7mm it would be for an occasional coues and bear hunt. I mostly archery hunt and haven't actually rifle deer hunted since 2006. So my question is would this be my best option or is there something better for say under $1500? That's scope and rifle combined just to be clear.

Long range accuracy from fixed blade heads???
desertbowhunter replied to 105Coues's topic in Elk Hunting
I am a mechanical guy myself. But this year on the January deer hunt I shot the shuttle T locks. After makeing sure you have the correct arrow spine for your set up you should paper tune your bow. Then once you have done that you need to walk back tune if you don't know how to do it just google it there are plenty of articles on how to do it. I was able to get my broad heads to group out to 110 yards I think the shuttle T are some of the most accurate fixed blades around. WAC ems are pretty awesome also but are very loud in flight. My desert buck this year only made it 40 yards but it was a double lung any broad head would of done the job. Just shoot whatever gives you the most confidence thats what I do. Confidence is everything! -

Andygrand Thanx for your reply I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the LRH in 7mm and top it with a vortex viper . The feedback I received from this sight has been awesome! I feel I will be very happy with the purchase when I do buy the rifle and scope. Is there any factory ammo that you or anyone on this site recommends or am I going to have to start getting into reloading?
-
Nice! Thanks for the link. I have everything but the rifle and scope. Optics, rangefinder etc. I do hunt a lot just haven't picked up a rifle since 2006. I'm an avid bow hunter and spotter for friends and family. The main reason for the rifle is some family members and I decided to put in some serious effort into dropping some bears this year. Easier said than done right. Ha!ha!

-
I will defiantly look into it thanx!

Thank you guys for the quick responses. You guys are making me excited to go and buy the long range hunter. I haven't bought a new rifle in a very long time. Now what scope would you guys suggest vortex viper or zeiss conquest?
-
What about the savage long range hunter is there a better choice of rifle for the money?
-
Maybe something in the 4-16 x50 type stuff. Like maybe vortex or zeiss. Suggestions would be helpful I'm not really much of a rifle guy I'm pretty much all archery these days.

This picture is really special to me. Its the first big game animal I killed that my son was able to be in the picture with me. Let's see those pictures you've taken with your kids that really mean something to you.

Great photos! I have pictures like you have but with my own dad. That is was hunting is all about. I think we all forget about just making great memories with family and friends. Sometimes we get to caught up in killing the biggest and baddest buck or bull out there. We all want the big one but it's nice to just sit back and enjoy the ride sometimes. I can't wait to have photos like you have with my own son. -

Yeah I can't wait for that day to come. He will be 1 next week and I can't believe how fast it has gone by. So I'm excited for him to be 10 but at the same time I want to enjoy him while he's still a baby I'm sure everyone with kids understands what I mean. They are very special and make you see life in a totally different way. But I know when that day comes for him to pull the trigger on an animal I will be a nervous wreck! -
Thanks, I was just coming to terms with another year of no Elk hunting and figured I would check the card one last time (4th time today) and BAM! Wow! Congrats!!!!! You must be on cloud 9!!!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only crazy person. My card hasn't been hit and I keep checking every 20 minutes just to be safe hahahah!! I need to see the not drawn next to my name to bee 100% sure.

I have 10 points for elk and I cant seem to pull a tag either . My dad on the other hand seems like he pulls a tag every 2 to 3 years and for quality units to boot. It's all just the luck of the draw. I feel your pain trust me some of just don't have the luck like others do. My little brother is 18 and has had 4 bull tags already I'm 28 and have been putting since the age of 10 and have only drew 2 bull tags in my whole life. All we can do is hope our turn will come.
