    BIG BUCK REPORT

I seen a pic of a big buck taken by a guy that I heard lives in the Morenci area. Scott Adams may no him. I just heard his last name was Chavez. It scored in the 140 range. If anyone knows him please see if he will post. Great big buck with lots of mass.

    Doe in estrus

Yes the wafers work good too as a cover scent. I tried to do some rattaling in Dec. but did not have any luck. Has anyone done any good with rattaling? I had bucks in the area when I rattled but had no results.

    Doe in estrus

Yes, It works great as cover scent and an attractant when placed in an area where bucks are rutting.

  21. My friend Jimmy and I (Steve) took off in an area we had been chasing a big buck. Due to the wind though the deer had busted us before we found him. We kept walking up a ridge line and found another buck chasing a doe across the canyon at about 200pm. We decided to pass him up and dropped to the bottom to get back to the truck that was 4 miles away. We started chasing deer out of the bottom so I decided to rim out of the bottom of the canyon to see if I could get a look at the deer. I looked across a small deep draw and seen deer standing looking at me from 25 yards to 75 yards away. I pulled up on what I thought was a buck but the sun was right in my scope. I watched the deer and the deer watched me. I seemed like 5 minutes we stood there looking at each other. I could not belive that the deer did not run away as soon as I walked up on them. The sun set I pulled my 7mm up to see a three point in my scope. I pulled the trigger and the deer dropped right where he stood. I yelled at Jimmy down in the canyon and told him I had another buck 50 yards away staring at me. He sprinted up the mountain! He spotted the buck dropped his pack went into the prone position and pulled the trigger of his 30-06 and dropped his deer. The fun then began. We both had packs to large to throw the deer up on our backs so we started to indidually drag our deer twords the bottom. I finally reached my Dad Jim and Tammy and they met us in the bottom so they could carry our packs. We got back to the truck at 930pm. I guessed this buck at about 105" gross and have not put a tape on him yet. Please feel free to make a guess.

    Soup and Sandwich...

Out of 5 tags for the December hunt we only filled two. We went to alot of our normal spots just to find hunters already in the area. We hunted North, South, East and West in our Unit. We seen alot of deer and a large number of small bucks. We chased acouple of good bucks out ahead of us but could never locate them again even after many days and failed attempts. We finally found the buck we were looking for the Sunday before Christmas. We got up to a good glassing point only to find we had a hunter directly across from us and below where we had seen the buck. Later that day we talked to the same hunter( wearing a purple beenie) from Flagstaff and he said they had only one more day to hunt. I asked him if he had seen anything, he kindly gave it up that he had seen the same buck and that his friend Red had his does beaded. He was going back in for an evening hunt. We thought that we may never get a chance at this buck again but decided to go take a look on Saturday after Christmas. To our surprise we spotted him on top of a mountain right out of the truck. It took us all day and a great bit of luck. I killed him on the way back to the truck. I have not drawn a Dec. tag since 1995. My buddy hunting with me had never hunted in DEC. I was telling him all the stories of seeing good bucks rutting after does. I think he is hooked and hope we get the chance to do it again. We as Coues hunters know that we must put forth the effort to get the chance at a good buck. Just keep the tag soup brewing and sooner or later you will add some Coues broth to your mixture. The next day it might even be good between two pieces of bread.
