    Moon phase

Well I drew my 5th choice this year and I will be dealing with a half to full moon through my hunt Nov. 4th. I have not had very good luck when the moon is bright at night so just throwing it out for comment. Give me your 2 cents on the subject.

    Moon phase

Thanks for your input peeps made for an informative read. Just the kind of reaction I wanted from my fellow Coues hunters. I have had this hunt in the past and have been mostly successfull. I will do what I have done in the past, find them in there bed and "harvest" them.

    Use of the word "Harvest"

Rednecks are not politiclly correct but that does not mean I am not a responsiable hunter so I will call it whatever I feel is appropriate. Thanks Rag Horn for putting it all out there! I hope my daughter and I can let the air out of acouple this weekend!

    Monument to Javelina!

Yes I would think you were a little crazy about your likens for those little critters. I have shot a few and ran over a few still not to crazy about them. I would have to say that your taxidermist did a fine job. The mount would look good in any man's game room. Thanks for posting your Javelina!

Does anyone know what this Bug is???

I knew it was a cricket! The other one is a bark scorpion most common in AZ.

    Berger VLD exit wound!!!

My dad back in the day shot a small Muley buck with his 22-250 at about 60 yards. The deer ran for about 25 ft. and pumped blood all over the hill side. When we flipped the buck over it had the largest exit hole I had ever seen! I did not think a small round could make such a large hole. just my 2 cents.

bustin your tail versus easier locations

I have killed bucks miles from the truck and some just one ridge over. I try and hunt areas that are little harder to gain access to by the average hunter that does not want to put down some boot leather. If I find hunters ahead of me I will try and skirt around them and aim for higher ground to get above them. May be one ridge over then I will sit down and watch the hunters below me kick deer out. Sometimes I like to stop and talk to the hunters after a morning hunt and ask them how they did or what they have seen. It is fun when they say all they saw was one doe, in reality they kicked out deer all around them that they never seen or heard. Slow down look and listen.

    Gett'n em out

There is alot to consider when hunting Coues. If it is hot then after the kill you need to do your best to get the meat cooled as soon as possiable. As some of the other posts mentioned. I normally do not skin them until I can get them at least back to the truck, helps to keep the dirt and other stuff off the meat. After the deer is gutted and ready for packing I will cut the legs off at the knees then tie the front legs to the back legs to create what looks like straps on a back pak. I will then put him on my back and get to walking. If you stop for a break try to set the deer down in the shade to help with the cooling. Normally it is cool enouph this time of year that you will not have issues with the deer getting over heated. If you are camped out then get the deer hung in some good shade and remove the hide, never let the deer hang in the direct sunlight. just my 2 cents

    Binocular Reviews

I have a pair of 15x58 Minox and they preform very well in the field with the exception of the size. My friend purchased some Vortex Vipers 15x50's from cameralandusa.com they are half the size and weight. Glass is just as clear as my Minox. I think he paid around $440. I paid $850 for my Minox when they first hit the market but I think the price has came down on them. My Dad has a pair or 10 EL Sworo's that are very nice but he paid around $1600 for his. It just has alot to do with how much you are willing to spend. Alot of good bino's on the market that work just as well as the high price glass. Hunterdude is right also get a good tripod to go with your new bino's. I have a Manfroto tripod and it has some weight to it. Vortex is making some nice tripod's on the market that are sturdy and half the weight. Just my 2 cents.

    7mm rem mag rifle rounds

I started shooting re loads through mine also 160 gr Sierra Game Kings with 64 gr of powder. My buddy shot his elk with my rifle and the bull fell with one shot at 300yrds on a dead run! Know he is just horns and table fare! Good eating.

    Cattle and coues

My Dad has always had a theory that if cattle were in the area then the whitetail bucks would move out. I do not think this is the case in all areas though. The buck I shot in 2009 was in a rugged area and cows were using it also. Just my 2 cents.

    Sunday smoke fest....

Sounds like fun to bad I am in Safford. Slow smoked brisket would be good with something cool and crisp to wash it down.
  24. 3C had squierls all over the place. Seemed like we seen Aberts about every 100 yards just driving down the road.

    How would these measure up?

Good deer, buck A would most likely be the one I would pull the trigger on. Buck B would not be to bad if I could not find buck A.
