  1. I shot a .308 Savage 99e when I started hunting. I was scared of the kick as a kid but ounce I got past the recoil I was good to go. Just don't start him out with a high grain round that will kick like a mule and he will be ok.

My daughter started out with a .270 Ruger and she handles the rifle well as long as she has a rest. recoil was no problem for her. She hunts quial with me, shooting a 20ga. and says the shotgun kicks more then the .270.

Alot has to do with the confidence your kid has in his ability to shoot. So give him some positive reinforcement and the next thing you know he or she will be out shooting Dad.

    my 2 cents.

  2. I agree with both of the above posts. Movement and smell will give you away quicker than anything. This is the reason that so many hunters glass long distances and use cover scents faithfully. If an animal is spotted then you use cover like , mountain ridges brushy draws etc.. to conceal your movement.

Although good camos are nice to conceal yourself from other hunters just dont get lost. You are very hard to spot out there in them thier hills.....

  3. I have heard alot of talk about replacing the trigger mech. in the Remington. I have not done any trigger work on all three Rugers that I own. Great smoooth trigger pull right out of the box.

couesobsession, Yes my first Ruger M77 Mark II 7MM Mag stainless synthetic I won at at an Elk Foundation banquet after I bought about $100 in raffle tickets. Since then it has killed two Coues over 100" and two elk. I will not hesitate to shoot my 7mm out to 500 yards. I bought another one this year due to my brother and I getting an elk tag. He did not have a rifle so I took the opportunity to buy me a new toy. M77 Hawkeye 7MM mag, stainless with a camo synthetic stock. I hope my scope shows up this week. I paid $625 for it new.

I looked on Gun Broker and there are some good deals but I was leary of buying a rifle sight unsean so I went with a new one.

    Ruger my 2 cents

  4. Whats even funnier is you and your hunting partner are sitting there ready to find that animal you have been scouting. You spot him and then other hunters walk into the area. You watch that animal hunker down and let the hunters pass and then you drop him 5 min later after he steps out from behind the tree.

Later you come across the same hunters and they see you have a deer down and they say we did not see anything all day.

Slow down and look then look again.

  5. I just bought a Ruger M77 Hawkeye. I also have two other Rugers in the M77 mark II models and love each one. light and accuarte. They cost a little more but I have had nothing but good luck with them. I will post pics of the new one as soon as the scope shows up. Check out Q's Guns on the Internet though He can get you a great deal on Ruger, Remington and Savage.

    My 2 cents.

  6. I just want to say thank you Amanda for going out on a limb and putting on the first annual bass tournament for CWT.com!

Although I did not put up the weight needed to make the money it was still worth the time.

I hope we can do it again.

    Thanks

  7. We had 5.94 lbs with 4 fish, I got docked for one dead fish. I did not stick around for the end. I got rained on all the way back to Safford.

I am sure Amanda will post as soon as She gets a chance.

  8. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Tuesday, that it will consider giving stronger Federal protection to the Mexican Gray Wolf by classifying it as an endangered subspecies in its own right.

At this time, the Mexican Gray Wolf is classified as endangered but only as a member of the greater gray wolf species, which has other populations around the United States.

A re-classification would insulate the Mexican Gray Wolf from any decisions made about other populations of gray wolves in the United States.

Fish and Wildlife said it’s experimental re-introduction of the Mexican wolf into

Eastern Arizona and Southwestern New Mexico is not working that well.

In part, because people who live in the area continue to shoot and kill the re-introduced wolves and members of their packs.

Fish and Wildlife says that if the subspecies is listed separately as endangered, that would prompt the service to write a new recovery plan for the Mexican Gray Wolf,

said Michael Robinson of the Center for Biological Diversity, which has petitioned the service to re-classify the wolf. That’s because the service would be obligated to write a new recovery plan for the subspecies, and the plan could lead to changes in the rules of governing that wolf population.

  9. I just ordered a Ruger 7mm mag stainless synthetic with a Hogue camo stock. I hope it shows up Monday. Still looking for a scope Leupold or maybe a Redfield since it is made by Leupold. 50mm 3 by 9. With the Accu sight picture. I will post pics when I get it put together. The Ruger has a trigger adjusment built in to it so I hope I will not have to purchase another trigger mechanism with it.
