  1. I thought he was maybe in the 90's. I just could not get a scope on him or glasses due to the position of the sun. My bino's normally are very good at looking in the same direction but the sun and deer were at the same height and direction. (Minox 15X56 bino's) Scope Luepold 6X. So pretty much is was shoot or dont shoot, I decided to SHOOT!post-3275-1262116329.jpg Pictured with Jimmy

  2. My friend Jimmy and I (Steve) took off in an area we had been chasing a big buck. Due to the wind though the deer had busted us before we found him. We kept walking up a ridge line and found another buck chasing a doe across the canyon at about 200pm. We decided to pass him up and dropped to the bottom to get back to the truck that was 4 miles away. We started chasing deer out of the bottom so I decided to rim out of the bottom of the canyon to see if I could get a look at the deer. I looked across a small deep draw and seen deer standing looking at me from 25 yards to 75 yards away. I pulled up on what I thought was a buck but the sun was right in my scope. I watched the deer and the deer watched me. I seemed like 5 minutes we stood there looking at each other. I could not belive that the deer did not run away as soon as I walked up on them. The sun set I pulled my 7mm up to see a three point in my scope. I pulled the trigger and the deer dropped right where he stood. I yelled at Jimmy down in the canyon and told him I had another buck 50 yards away staring at me. He sprinted up the mountain! He spotted the buck dropped his pack went into the prone position and pulled the trigger of his 30-06 and dropped his deer.

The fun then began. We both had packs to large to throw the deer up on our backs so we started to indidually drag our deer twords the bottom. I finally reached my Dad Jim and Tammy and they met us in the bottom so they could carry our packs. We got back to the truck at 930pm.

I guessed this buck at about 105" gross and have not put a tape on him yet. Please feel free to make a guess.

  3. I have been hunting in unit 31. I have not found any wallhangers yet but I still have a few more days to hunt. The Stockton pass area is getting hammerd by hunters there is alot of deer there but you have to fight for a rock to sit on.

I might see you out there so good luck.

The bucks just started to rut so the last week should be great.

  4. I have the first 11 days of the hunt off and then 3 more days at the end of the season. I have unit 31 so if you see some activity please drop a line and I will try to do the same to help out my peeps.

thanks. I am driving a 03 dark gray chevy 4x4 with a couple of dents and some awsome AZ pinstripes on it.

  5. I went out scouting on Saturday and only seen 3 doe . Alot of fresh track right on the snow line. I think we had deer out ahead of us but the terain was to steep we could not see them. I found some very large track in the area and have never seen mullies in that spot so I hope closer to the end of the season I can find the dear that made them. I watched the three does for about 15min and no bucks showed themselves. I know it is early but just puttin some feelers out to the Coueswhitetail peeps. thanks

  6. Well it is acouple weeks away before the late Dec. hunt starts. Did anyone on the Nov. 27th hunt see any rut activity during your hunt. Bucks running with does. Bucks sparing or good scrapes. Hopefully the weather recieved in the lower portion of AZ will help kick it off.

  7. I was hunting in southwest AZ with my Dad when I was just old enouph to carry a rifle. We got up on a large ridge line overlooking a wide canyon. The sun was just about ready to break over behind us. We could here a vehicle way down below us. The vehicle stopped and my Dad put his binos on it. he could see a plackered on the side of the truck that said Sierra Club. He muttered some profanity under his breath and then said well there goes da hunting. Just about that time the people at the vehicle started banging and making as much noise as possiable and working there way up the canyon. My Dad started glassing out ahead of them and all of a sudden you could see his EXCITMENT as he whispered loudly get your gun! He pointed about 100 yrds in front of us. There were to Whitetail bucks coming straight up a ridge twords us. My dad said take the one in front and I will take the back one. Neither one were big but they both had horns. I let a round fly and watched my deer go down! My dad shot a split seconed after me and his went down!

The people in the canyon started yelling green piece profanities at us. My dad yelled back THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!

The people then walked back to their truck and left. We proceeded to dress our deer and packed them back to the truck where we were met by AZG&F Mike Wadell to be exact. (retired). He recognized my Dad's old 72 chevy and just went back to his truck stating that some Sierra Club members were trying to report that we were pouching deer.

  8. There is a jackpot tourney at San Carlos sat morning for any intersted anglers. Launching out of Soda Canyon at safe light.

After the tourney I am headed to Rosey to try and get in on some bass action.

  9. I went to San Carlos on Sunday fished from 930am to 330pm. We caught a few bass and crappie. The crappie were caught on small single tail jigs casting to the bank in the backs of coves. The bass were also caught in the back of the coves. We caught bass and crappie that still had eggs.

  10. If the water is not following to fast try a X-rap rapala jerk bait with a green or black back, or a small yamamoto grud in dark colors with aquarter ounce jig head. Bass should be close to spawning.

  11. The trip went well. We got all the vehicles out in one piece. The fishing was ok but not great. We caught a few smallies and some cats. I will try and get some pics up this week for all to see. I did not take my truck either I rode in a modified jeep wagonier.
