    My 2012 Late Archery Bull

Great job! That hunt looks tough. I keep going back and forth on whether or not I should put in for these hunts. I think I just need one early archery hunt under my belt then I will get the "not as good" hunts from then on so I can hunt more. That country looks rough.
  2. Alaska or maybe Canada. Shoot I'd probably do both lots and lots of times. Also, id definitely own a huge log cabin in Greer. That's always been a dream of mine.

    Meopta customer service

I was helping a buddy out this past weekend who had a grandson with a junior tag in 20C. I have the meopta meopro 10x42's and I have been really impressed with this pair of binoculars. Well something happened to them in the middle of this hunt and I can't explain it but they stopped focusing. If I closed my right eye while glassing it was crystal clear through my left lens so I knew whatever the problem was, was in the right lens. I called meopta up and they are sending me a brand new pair no quistions asked. I couldn't be happier with these binos and now that I know they have service like this makes it even better.

Also he gave me 10% off for being a member of this site and he told me I was only the second person to ever use the 10% discount so make sure you tell them your a member. Can't wait to get my bow back. Should be all ready to go in about a week

That is a great buck!! Nothing to be ashamed of there. That is definitely a shooter to me even on the strip. I loved that "care package" your wife put together for you. I made sure to point that out to my wife.

    Richards 2012 Arizona Strip Hunt

That was an awesome story and an awesome buck as well! Great job
  11. This was a very tough hunt from temps in the 90's one week to temps in the 20's the next. We saw countless does and a few small spikes and this was actually the first real buck we had seen on the whole hunt. I am too tired to write the whole story but I will tomorrow. He shot this buck this afternoon and it was the last day of the hunt. This is his biggest buck to date and I'm just happy I could be there with him.
  12. thanks frank! I will tell him
  13. Thanks everyone for the kind words. I've had the privilege of being with my dad when he shot his "buck of a lifetime" on the Kaibab last year and I was fortunate enough to watch my brother drop this gorgeous desert buck. Both of them have now killed deer way bigger than anything I have gotten but for reason I seem to have enjoyed those two hunts with them more than any of my own.
  14. Here's the story of this great buck...we had been hunting pretty hard in areas where I am used to seeing big bucks in January. Well it turns out that these areas only hold does the rest of the year or I just couldn't find any bucks. So on the last afternoon I just had a feeling that we needed to try something different. This honey hole of mine just wasn't paying off and we needed to try a Hail Mary for the last afternoon of the hunt. I have a spot that I have heard good things about and have always wanted to try but never had a chance so we talked it over and decided why not. So we pulled up to a spot that looked promising and started to slowly work our way to a high spot to glass for the evening. When we got to the spot to glass I set my tripod down and started to take my pack off to get comfortable for the long evening of glassing. It was only 230 in the afternoon. Well, no sooner did I take my pack off that I looked up and saw the body if a deer feeding. Rather then setting up my tripod to look I just picked the whole thing up and held it to my eyes to take a look. I was shocked when I saw the size of this buck feeding not even 200 yards away. I told my brother "big buck dude!" I took my binos off the tripod and he used it as a rest. This buck was perfectly broad side standing in the open feeding so I asked him why he wasn't shooting. He said "I can't stop shaking". Well not only was he shaking like a leaf but so was I. I could barely look at him through the binos cause I was shaking so bad. I looked at him and said " we need to calm down, take a few breaths and take your time. He has no idea we are here." That obviously didn't help cause he totally missed the first shot! The buck started to run and my brother shot again. This time I heard a "smack" and saw the buck tuck his front arm. He hit him in his front leg real high. And he was just standing there now. My brother shot again this time hitting him a little too far back but the buck was still standing there. My brother had to reload at this point and after what seemed like forever he was finally able to get a real good rest and put the buck down with one last shot. He hit him right through the lungs and it dropped in its tracks. We looked at each other in disbelief at what just happened and gave a big high five. He had just killed the biggest buck he'd ever seen and I was so glad I was there to witness it with my brother.

    Killing small bucks

I really think that every situation is differant. For example this past weekend I took a co-worker and his friend out on what was both their first ever deer tags. First legal deer would have been the best thing in the world to them. My brother also had this tag and I hunted with him on Sunday and theres no way he would settle on a forkie. Also, if a spike steps within bow range on Dec. 31st you better believe Im letting the arrow fly but the very next day on Jan. 1st theres no way Im shooting that same spike.

    Frustrated

Just got back from checking my camera and I never expected to see what I did. My camera was there and it had been messed with by cows but I wasnt surprised by this, what surprised me and has me worried now is that the cement water catchment that had been full of water for the last 2 months was 2/3 of the way empty. when I checked my camera last week it was completely full. at this rate it will be completely dry by opening day. I just cant believe this!! Its so frustrating, I had some really good bucks coming in to this water and just before opening day it is going to dry out! I checked the storage tank that feeds this and it is also empty. there are lots of cattle in the area so I would assume that the ranchers in the area would want to keep water in there. also the road that leads to this tank has a gate that has a red AZGFD tag on it that says "Please keep gate closed" so maybe AZGFD manages it. I dont know. I guess I can just hope that the tanks get filled back up before next friday. I set up my ground blind anyway so hopefully it turns out ok. Alright I'm done venting now.

    Frustrated

Update: I came to the tank on Friday afternoon and the tank was full again. I'm pretty relieved about this. So I sat in my ground blind until about 530. I decided to take it down and set up my chair tucked into some bushes because even the cattle that came in to drink were spooked by it. So apparently they had just fixed the pump for this tank that morning cause the rancher came riding through right at prime time on his quad. I say prime time cause between 6 and 8 is when I had most action on my camera. He drove through at about 630 with his little girls on a quad making all kinds of noise. But at least I got to talk to him. So I built a ground blind out of brush and I am sitting here sweating my butt off as I'm typing this waiting for that big buck to come in. It's almost prime time!!!

    Frustrated

If there wasn't so much cattle in the area I wouldn't mind doing my own homemade water catchment but I wouldn't be able to keep up with the amount of cattle in the area. Naturegirl that's a good idea trying to talk to the WM. I'm not sure if this is a game and fish tank or not but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Probably won't be able to get a hold of them on the weekends though.

    opening day 19A archery

Way to go! I had the second archery hunt in 19A last year and I had a blast. Getting it done with a bow is something to be proud of. That is a real nice antelope.
