    Bonus points question

I agree. Just put everyone's name in the hopper and pull them out. If you don't get a tag, oh well, come back next year and try again. Works for NM and Idaho. The bonus point system, by itself wasn't so bad, but then they started making it more and more complicated, multiple drawings, et, etc. Kids and young people just starting out are the ones getting screwed.

    Operation Bear Bones

Unbelievable! Most of the charges dropped and the biggest fine was $1500. One guy got off with a $25.00 fine. That's cheaper than buying a bear tag.

    Now what?

That's my goal too, if I do not draw an elk or rifle deer tag. Get a bear and another (bigger) Coues buck with my bow.

They let rifle hunters on the Fain now. Too bad.

Swaroviski 15x56 and minox 15x58 BR

You can go to the Outdoorman's in Cave Creek and try them all out side by side.

    Logging the Tongass NF

If you ever make it up there, you will see the real crime of devastation belongs to those that live on the reservations. They have cut nearly every tree on their land.

Swaroviski 15x56 and minox 15x58 BR

IF you have the $$$ for the Swarovski, it's a no brainer. The Minox will be inferior in every aspect, but for $700 they are a great value. I've glassed many many deer, elk, antelope, pigs etc with mine and they are as good or better than 95% of the glass you can buy. The 5% they are inferior to are the Leica, Zeiss, and Swarovski's.

    Got binos need tripod

I've been through a lot of tripods in the last 3-4 years. I finally found one I like. I good compromise between the heavy Bogen's and the cheaper lightweight models. It is very steady in the wind, has lever locks instead of the twist kind and is fairly light, but not too light as to shake and vibrate in a breeze. It's a Bogen also, which is very well constructed. http://www.eagleoptics.com/index.asp?pid=4883 I put the Bogen 700RC head on it. Smooth and easy to use and again, not too heavy. If you have the money, you can get the Outdoorsman's stuff, which is second to none, but I found this to be good enough for me.

    BLACKTAIL/BLACK BEAR COMBO ANYONE?

I would not go unless we were packing. The areas close to roads get hammered.

    BLACKTAIL/BLACK BEAR COMBO ANYONE?

I hunted the Tejon Ranch. You can't tell it's a ranch though, it's the size of Rhode Island. 1/4 million acres and only one hour North of LA. I know a few guys over there that have done the same deer/bear hunt. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/index....=117861&hl=

    BLACKTAIL/BLACK BEAR COMBO ANYONE?

Definitely interested if I don't draw anything. I only put in for primo deer and elk hunts in AZ, NM, and UT. and I drew AZ antelope last year, so possibility is good that I will not draw also. Where are you hog hunting. I've been a couple times in CA and it is a BLAST.

    About time

Who gives a rip about the score, that is a great looking buck.
  15. Good point. I am not advocating that this is a good program, I just wanted to make sure we knew they were not giving away free tags.

find me SPOT... I NEED ONE

Hey, that is pretty cool. Expecially for me because I hunt and scout by myself a lot. POlus, my wife always makes me draw her a map of where I am going to be, that gets real annoying. BTW, your website looks really good. I enjoy reading it.
  17. I don't think they are talking about deer, elk, antelope tags. Just the general hunting and fishing license that NM residents have to buy to hunt small game, birds, etc.

    Dad Bagged A TOAD (Update-123 4/8)

Thats just it though. They have been going to that ranch for 5 years straight and never bagged more than one 105 incher a year. this year was just exceptional. Must be those new hormones and steroids i read about ;) Must be hunting the Rafael Palmerio Ranch?
  19. If you are on assistance, how do you afford the gun, ammo, and gas to go hunting? It's much cheaper to go to the store and buy some grub. The $8 for a box of 12 ga would buy a days worth of food for one person if you are a thrifty shopper. What if you buy the shells, borrow a gun, go hunting and don't get squat? You're out $8 and still have no food. Not very cost effective if you ask me. I guess it would be feasible if you lived in a area where you could walk to the fields and gets some rabbits, ducks or quail, etc and not have to buy a tank of $3.00 gas.

    2 years 5 days 4 hours & .......

AWESOME! What happened to his front leg? I have heard of eating the heart of your kill, but not the kneecaps.

    Anyone else have this happen?!

Took my son on a cow elk hunt in unit 9. Had 1.5 days to hunt because of other committments. In the 1.5 days we glassed up 20+ pigs, a dozen or so antelope, a few deer, 17 bulls......and ONE cow.
  22. I just checked my mail and there it was In all it's glory Waiting for me to devour it, cover to cover. My Victoria Secret's catalog
  23. Not sure how many here have actually hunted both the Rez and Mexico, but I'll ask anyway. Which is the bigger value. Not the cheapest (I already know that answer), but the most bang for the buck. Is the hunting on a average Mexican ranch worth 2x-3x times the cost and hassle of gun permits, insurance, check points, etc compared to a $1500 - $2,000 San Carlos late season tag?

    San Carlos vs Mexico

I'm scared I'll end up in Juarez Prison as someone's pale skinned senorita.
  25. Oh, okay. Then it could have been taken any time after your last visit and before your most recent one. I guess I had assumed that you had just killed your other buck there, as well. That said, I sure can't imagine the thief being stupid enough to then put a salt lick close by, knowing you would probably be back to retrieve your stuff and perhaps run into him. -TONY But...thieves are stupid, that's why they are thieves, because they ARE stupid.
