It's just elk and antelope. The REAL drawing, for deer, isn't until July. Elk hunting is just something you do to pass time until deer season rolls around.

There has been a lot of complaining about the number of people on the Kaibab during archery season. I could see them going to a draw for that. I would probably go for that hunt if I knew there would 1/4 as many people up there.

Try throwing a salt block down in front of the camera to get the deer to stop in front of it. The warmer it is, the harder it gets for the cam to "see" the deer, so the longer they are in front of it the better chance you have of getting a pic.

I don't understand all feelings about too many people wanting to hunt. Sure, it makes it hard get a decent tag, but on election day and when we are calling for people to send messages to those in charge about hunting related issues, we need as many voices as possible. You can't have it both ways. Kind of like the people that want to hunt public land for free but don't want anyone else in their spot. I do understand the concern about rising prices though. The G&F are likely to keep raising the price until it has an effect on applicant numbers.

Did you shoot a Guardian yet? I just bought a new Bear Truth, but the Guardian was my second choice. I just could not justify a $400 difference in price between the Truth and the Guardian.

Buy a Winchester or Remington and send it to Hill Country Rifles. They can do all the things you described in your description to the "stock" rifle. Then spend your savings on a better scope and mounts.

I think you should be calling the USFS insead of G&F. Of coarse, if you tell the G&F the violators are leaving a trail of $100 bills, they will probably be there within minutes.
