Think of it as "More opportunity". There, now doesn't your cup feel half full now?

That's awesome! Congrats! My sister got her a turkey a few years ago too, unfortunately, she married it.

I hope the string breaks when he/she draws it back and the bottom limb cracks him/her right in the teeth.

G & F article on reg changes
DesertBull replied to couesdiehard's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
"That makes me feel good as a resident hunter. I guess those greedy dogs at the game department really aren't all about the money" 2007 resident deer tag + License = $75 resident elk tag + license = $170 That ought to recruit alot of new hunters huh? -
Matt Bratz LOL! Did you make that name up? Either way, it sounds like it fits.

When and where will we be able to read your interview? As far as the survey goes, there are two things that bother me: 1) The archery elk hunters went through the exact same process and the Commision accepted their results with little opposition. 2) The Game and Fish Dept helped conduct and design the survey, then disregarded the results. They could have saved alot of time, money and effort by just being upfront about it and saying they were going through with the changes no matter what.

If not next year, very soon after, the central units will have 3 hunts, watch and see. Then it will be unit 8 and 6B and possibly new whitetail only hunts in units 1 and 4.

Yep, the days of putting an October hunt has your 3rd or 4th choice are probably over.
-
Don't worry, I will. I hope you draw your tag.

The archery elk hunters survey was done the exact same way and they accepted it. That is what really ticks me off. IMO, they just needed an excuse to rubberstamp it and ..... CHA-CHING!

AzG&F reports low compliance reporting Archery deer harvest
DesertBull replied to AZP&Y's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
LOL! How do they know only 30% complied? If they know only 30% reported, then would have to know how many hunters were successful to begin with. -
It cost you $12K to get them to drop charges in which there was not even a law concerning the offense? Can't you file a civil suit against them to recover the fees and your antlers?

There are juniper trees in 40B? Looks like one of those unit 10/18 buck to me.

G & F article on reg changes
DesertBull replied to couesdiehard's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I left the meeting after it became apparent that the Commision had already made up their mind, which was about 8 minutes after it started. I have better things to do than sit through a BS session with a bunch 0f ego-maniacs that are on the commission. What is the procedure for having a commissioner replaced? Can the Gov have them removed? This "we all need to work together" crap ain't going to flyg. Those people had a chip on their shoulder because the ADA supported the law that was just passed concerning the 10% cap. They let their personal feelings override their civic duty. Screw'em. Maybe the 78% of the 6500 surveyed that disagreed with the commision should not give them any application fees or buy a hunting license this year since we don't represent the average hunter. 6500 x 78% = 5070 5070 x 4 (sheep, elk, deer, antelope) x $5 app fee = $101400 5070 x $35 (license fee) = $177540 5070 x $30 (deer tag) x 80% = $121060 x 80% = (draw rate if you put one of their "opportunity tags" as second choice) total = $400000 That would buy alot of endangered chub minnow food. -

First time in 4 years -
If 78% of the hunters surveyed would have said they were in favor of more opportunity, I would say good and would hope the Commision would abide by that, but 78% said they did not favor it. The whole reason it was proposed in the first place, according to the people in charge, was because they were under the impression that hunters wanted more tags. We are the ones that pay the bills for the G&F. As long as it doesn't negatively impact the overall herd, we should have a LARGE say in the types of hunts that are offered. Now, if they go ahead with this, even after seeing the overwhelming evidence that it is not supported by 3/4 of the deer hunters, then the only real conclusion we can come up with is because they either 1)Think they know what we REALLY want, or 2) they want to sell more tags. They listened to the archery elk hunters when they oppossed more opportunity, will they listen to us?
-
So, being in support of more hunts and tags doesn't make you a "me" person? Interesting.
-
No one is asking the "danged Game and Fish" to do away with the early hunts. We would just like them to leave a few of the units as December only. It has worked for many years. Why does every unit have to managed the same? A little variety never hurt.

ARIZONA RESIDENT HUNTER ALERT
DesertBull replied to Huntin'AZ's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
How many elk and deer do you estimate Arizona has? You really think we can just give every hunter who wants to hunt a tag? We wait many years to hunt OUR OWN STATE, let alone someone elses? It's not about keeping you out, it's about the residents of the state getting some preference. I see you never answered the questions we had about YOUR state not even letting NR apply for elk or antelope. I'm willing to bet that California has at least 10X, if not 20X more deer than AZ. I know Colorado and Wyoming do, as do alot of midwestern states. We have a very limited resource. -
Yeah, but the oil companies are in business to make money, the G&F sole purpose is to manage wildlife.
-
They want to move alot of the bear hunts back to October and out the traditional "bears in the pears" time frame. More opportunity I guess.
