Another elk/deer slayer taken out
DesertBull replied to GRONG's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I'll get me a cat one day. Congrats! -
They should just issue a lion tag with every deer, elk and pig tag they sell or give you the option of using your big game tag on a lion if you choose to do so.
-
The BEST thing about the Zeiss is that when you zoom it up, the eye relief stays the same. No more crowding the scope when you are at full magnification.
-
I think as soon as you answer the first question - Do you apply for Mule Deer or Whitetail? - and you answer Mule Deer, you should not be allowed to answer the questions about the Whitetail hunts. The majority of the tags, and therefore the majority of the deer hunters, are primarily after Mule Deer. Why should they be influencing the whitetail hunts that they admittingly do not apply for? They should obviously be encouraged to give their opinion on the archery hunts, the proposed javelina hunts, etc.

Thank you!

We could move the July hunt to the first week of May. Any antlered deer. 99% of the deer don't have antlers in May CHA-CHING!!!! ---------------------- 400 people have taken the survey "In general, do you support an increase in tag opportunity even if it means more hunters in the field and a reduction in average hunt success?" Yes - 33 No - 367
-
Why don't they just make a July hunt? They could sell 10,000 tags per unit 100% draw - 0% success CHA-CHIIIIING!
-
232 people have taken the survey so far and appx 92% say they do NOT support changing the hunt structure to allow more tags. Almost 25% say they want to shorten the archery season. Probably ALL rifle only hunters.

"If it were edible....." Javelina is very edible. Me and my family have been eating Javelina at once a week.
-
Maybe some of the groups that will have a booth at the upcoming ISE Show could set a up a computer or two so people can fill out the survey there. There will be thousands of hunters there over the weekend. If I had a laptop, I would let them borrow it, but I don't. Just a thought.
-
Me too. I voted to leave everything as is. I also checked "reduce predators" and "increase access to public lands" as ways to increase hunter opportunity. I debated over that and "improve habitat", but there is only so much you can do to alter the habitat. It is what mother nature gives us for the most part.

Jennifer Martin Commission Nomination
DesertBull replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Aside from the lack of experience, what are the other concerns? I would hope that the NRA wouldn't be pushing an anti-hunter. They know what side their bread is buttered. Without hunting, there is no Second Ammendment or NRA. Evidently she has publicly acknowledged a willingness to expand hunting and shooting. That is more than a couple of our current commissioners will say out loud. I expressed to my senators that I do not support the nomination, based on what the various organizations are saying, but I'll admit, I do not see the "we are doomed" scenerio coming to fruition if she is confirmed. -
No one is proposing taking away the early tags. There are thousands of them. I'll take 20% odds on unit 22 as opposed to 5% on unit 33 December. Like I said before, I have already convinced myself that early hunts are the only thing I will get to hunt again because I feel that they are going to make the changes no matter what, and like you, I won't wait the years and years it will take to get a tag. I'll take the tag, and be happy with it. I just think that it stinks that they can't leave a few of the units alone. BTW, the "odds" that are printed in the back of the regs are very misleading. When they say that 20% drew unit XX, they are not taking into account the people that put unit XX as a second choice but drew their first choice. They need to break it down into to first choice applicants and second choice applicants.

Did he put a check in the envelope with his app?

There are also 16 W.T. hunts from 2004 that had 95% or better draw odds. If you have taken the hunters safety coarse and applied for 5 consecutive years you should be able to draw an October or Nov tag with your 2-3 bonus points at least every other year. You would be surprised at how many people still mess up their chances to draw a tag by putting 50% draw hunt as their first choice and a 10% as their second, third, fouth...! Personally, all I would like to see them do is leave the central units December hunts alone. Those are the only late hunts we have left that we have a decent chance to draw on a regular basis. Cutting the unit 33 December hunt, for example, from 50 tags to 25 and adding 100 tags in October, ain't going to do squat to improve draw odds in October by more than a few percentage points. On the other hand, cutting the unit 22 December tags from 300 to 50 and adding an October hunt will make drawing the December hunt a fantasy. Might as well put in for the Kaibab mule deer hunt, the odds will be comparable. Yes, 200-300 more people will get to hunt in October. For those that like the Oct/Nov hunts, there is already good opportunity. For those that like the Late hunts, the Central units are the last units left with decent draw odds.
-
Almost everyone that puts in for a Nov or Oct hunt gets a tag as it is. What do they want, left over tags like it used to be?
-
Pay more to hunt less, sounds like a deal.
-
They not only want to add 6 days to the October hunt, they want to increase tag numbers in the early hunt and decrease them in the late hunts. Their thinking is that they will kill the same number of deer overall, but put more hunters in the field in any one given year. Overall success rates lowered, actual number of deer killed, appx the same. More tags sold at their new higher price. I've already started planning for the early hunts. There is no way I am waiting 5 years or more between deer tags. I am getting new (lighter) backpacking gear and plan on hunting wilderness areas only. I am convinced they are going to make most of the changes they proposed. They just tested the waters last year with the change to the unit 23 whitetail hunt.

the talk about a "I'll work for Bonus Points" program that the G&F was considering adopting? Did they scrap it or just put it on hold?
-
I think those blind sheep are in the Silverbell Mountains, unit 37A.
-
Did they disappear or were they moved? The sheep in Morenci don't seem to mind humans.
-
Rule #1 The winner will get a San Carlos Dry Lake Bull tag, donated by Apache7MM. Woo HOOOO! I'm in!
-
Cali hog hunt in May.

$17 to get in now. $7 for parking and $10 to walk in the door. Could you imagine going to the mall and being asked for $17 for the priviledge to spend your money there?
