You can get the bonus point break down per unit from the game & fish dept. You have to go down to the main office and fillout a request for public records and give them $25. They also have a report of the total draw. How many people put in for each hunt, res vs non-resident, etc. $50 for that one I think. THe bonus point report has more valuable data though. They are just database print outs, no formatting or comments. Just raw numbers.

Cellular Game Camera
DesertBull replied to coueselk's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I would like to have one for the times they shut down the forest though. One time I had a cam out and the USFS shut down the Coconino. It wasn't too far from the paved road, so I had my wife stop and drop me off while went in to get it, then she drove back by a little later and picked me up. -
I, myself, thought it was stupid for him not to use it. He took the easy way out. He could have went on the hunt, and wrote a story about how USO was tearing apart the hunting community and ruining the best elk hunting in America. He didn't hurt USO by not going, he only excused himself from controversy and wasted a tag that a lot of people would have loved to have.

I highly doubt that Chuck Adams has unlimited amounts of cash. Even so, there is nothing to be ashamed of if you are wealthy, as long as you aquired it legally. Seems like being wealthy is considered a crime these days. Just because a guy is living his dream, doesn't mean he is rich, unethical, or undeserving. Not many of us have the drive or ambition to make a living at what we love to do. I'll bet he got laughed at plenty when he was asked how he was going to earn a living. Hey Chuck, what do you want to be when you grow up? "I'm going to be a professional bowhunter!" Yeah right, ya crazy fool!

It just says that they cannot charge a fee. It says nothing about them locking the gate. -

He shot a lawyer, he should be given a medal. He did more to protect the country than John Kerry ever did. -
Prime coues area being developed

There are some big desert mule deer around that place too. -
It's dry guys. AND HOT! Deer are hitting the water hard during shooting hours. I have a lot of photos that I don'thave time to post right now of good bucks on water during the middle of the day. Give it a try. Here is a Carp that one of my clients killed this past week in the desert. He killed him the very first morning of his hunt, at a trick tank.

Say goodbye to Dec. coues hunts.
DesertBull replied to Redbeard's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I would cut the October tags in 1/2, Make the November hunt a 6 day hunt instead of two weeks, then add two late hunts of one week each. One in December and one in Jan. I would also make the late hunts a 3 bonus point minimum, meaning you must have 3 BP's to apply for it. I would also set some of the late hunts up as jr hunts. Why do we give the kids the crappiest hunts? I thought they were trying to recruit NEW HUNTERS! Now, before flaming me on that last one about the BP's, think a minute. Most of us have a BP for the hunters ed and most of us have the loyalty BP for applying 5 consecutive years. That means we really only need one more point to qualify. I would rather hunt Dec/Jan every other year or every 3 years than hunt in October every year, but that is just me. I would also consider making archery hunters, of which I am one, pick a species, either muley or Coues and I would open all units to archery in both the late and early seasons. Why can't we bowhunt units 1,4,5,9,12 etc in Dec / Jan now? Makes no sense. -
Maybe we here at CW.com can adopt a tank or two and have one or two "fix'er upper" days a year. Any Ideas?

Why are dogs so fascinated with the odor of 'nads?

I would say that drinking water is not what is going to be hurting the wildlife as much as lack of food and cover for new borns. The coyotes will kill many more fawns and calfs this year with little or no ground cover.

Question about which rifle to buy???
DesertBull replied to jordanhillis's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have both a 30/06 and a 7 mag and the 06 kicks every bit as much as the 7mag. I also have a .270 WSM that kicks a little less than either, but it is only shooting a 150 grain bullet, as opposed to the 06 (180) and the 7 mag (175). Bullet weight makes a noticable difference in felt recoil. If you are shooting the 200 grain out of your .300, try dropping down to a 180 grain. Also, the limbsave recoil pads are great and consider a mercury recoil reducer that slips into the stock of the rifle, under the recoil pad. They work well, but add a little weight to your rifle. If you get a muzzle brake, get one that you can remove. Use it at the range and when practicing then take it off forhunting, unless you don't mind hunting with earplugs. -
I guess it depends on how close you are to people's houses. I myself wouldn't like someone hunting real close to my house, even with a bow. You don't know the intelligence of the hunter and if he would be able to pass a shot that might be dangerous to occupants of the house, especially if the buck/bull is HUGE. It's not worth the risk to me to have a family member or neighbor hurt. Ok, there is one neighbor I wouldn't mind getting thumped with a rubber blunt, but that is a story for another time!

You'll see crows and / or buzzards tomorrow. The meat is already a goner, so just face it and go back as soon as possible to try and salvage what you can. Also, if it were me, I would consider my deer tag filled for 2006, but that is your decision.

If you going to "roll your own" you might as well get some cool cresting on your arrows too! Black carbon arrows with a florecent orange crest and white fletching makes an easy to find arrow and easy to follow in flight.

It happens every time, the year after El Nino. I was really hoping to have just an average rainfall winter to back up last years great fawn crop. I expect a lot of those young deer to die this summer unless we have a good early monsoon. There is very little for the deer to eat right now, how bad will it be when it is 105 every day?

Not only that, they want us to pay more to hunt shorter seasons. Where is the logic in that?
