That was exactly my thought too! They are splitting up the archery hunts so that they can justify making the ALL of the early elk hunts "premium". When they say premium, they mean premium price. $300 for residents, $1800 for NR.

I think their new fee structures are going to kill the drawing odds, especially for elk, for the average guy/gal. IMO, the scoring systems are the worst thing to ever happen to hunting. Can you imagine shooting a 95" inch buck and actually being disppointed because your "buddy" shot a 98"? I've seen it ruin friendships and turn what should have been a great week in the outdoors; hunting, camping, swaping lies around the campfire, etc. , into a near brawl. Can't we just go hunting and be thankful for the hunt, the meat, the fellowship, the solitude, the clean air, and the absence of the everyday grind anymore without making it an ego trip? I think some of these people actually have more stress on their hunts than they do at work.
