Mesa is in the process of getting a Bass Pro Shops, but the blue hairs are trying to stop it. -
A few things to consider. 1. Were you shooting at a steep angle? Your bullet will hit considerably higher than what your chart says if shooting at a angle(either up or down, doesn't matter.) 2 years ago I shot right over the back of a decent Coues because I forgot to consider the angle factor. 2. At the distance you were shooting, "8"above the back" can be very deceiving. Your cross hair probably covers at least 4" just by itself at that distance. If you saw any daylight at all between the bulls back and your crosshair, you probably shot too high. 3. Are you sure you missed? I've shot spike elk with 180 grain Core loct bullets that just stood there an looked unhurt. I once shot a small spike 3 times dead center of the chest at 100 yards and he still walked 100 yards before falling over. 150 grain bullet at the distance you were shooting might not have had the energy to make the big bull appear hit. 4. 24" of drop seems a lot at 440 yards, especially if you sighted in for a 250 yards zero. According to Remington, a rifle sighted in at 200 yards will only drop 20". http://www.remington.com/ammo/ballistics/c...ults.asp?cal=20

The first calm day after a storm passes is THE day to be out. Doesn't have to be sunny and warm, just calm with little wind. I have a place in unit 33 that I can always see a few deer, but the day after a storm passes, it's like someone turned on the deer faucet. Last year, on just such a day, we literally glassed up 40+ deer before 9 am, all on one ridge system. The next day we saw maybe 15 deer total in the same area.

PROPOSED LICENSE FEE MEETINGS
DesertBull replied to Diamondbackaz's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Those are NOT the proposed fees. Those are the ceiling limits on fees. The MAXIMUM they could legally charge you for a tag. All fee increases have to go through the legislature I believe. -
5 straight years and no turkey tag. Still trying to draw that 27 spring bear tag too. Got a HAM tag in 37B.

Definatley unit 13A. Not even a question. Unit 16a second choice.

Try up higher in the Catalinas. There are a lot of deer in the burned areas right right now. Go up the backside, through Oracle. Get up into those steep canyons that burned in the last few years, up high on the mountain.

I hope they put the December hunts in the Premium catagory. I'd pay a little extra to get one.

No more online apps No caps on NR. All have equal chance to draw tags. Conservation bonus points to be awarded Raising the fees You must buy a license to apply for a tag In other words, we took it in the shorts, while Taulman "The Elk Pimp", takes it to the bank.

I like those low country bulls with their white antlers. That's awesome! Was it a L.O rifle tag or archery?
-
My next bow will either be a Bowtech or a Reflex. Mainly because I am a southpaw and have a short draw length. These companies seem to cater to my kind.

how many fawns you seeing?
DesertBull replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I saw many many fawns on the Kaibab early this month on a scouting trip. In fact, I saw more deer up there that weekend then I had seen up there since they started the doe hunts 4-5 years ago. -
Tax dollars hard at work!! just kidding.

Rattlesnake canyon

Mon, you have the tag of several lifetimes, I would suggest you do a little scouting and not let that tag be wasted. Try North of Rose Peak and along the west side of the Blue River in the wilderness area.

New way of hunting discovered!!!!
DesertBull replied to donniedent's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
It would take an act of Congress, literally! -
Wildcat Canyon, the areas well away from the road, is always good, snow or not. Just start hiking early and take enough supplies to keep yourself out there all day. I had a client go in there last year and see six elk the first day. All 6x6 bulls.

It's against the law to bait bears!

I like the salt blocks that you get at the feed store. They also have minerals in them, not just 100% salt. You can get small ones that will fit in your pack for about $2.00 each. Here's another trick. Take a peanut butter jar and cut the bottom out of it. Unscrew the lid and nail it to a dead tree or wooden fence post. Then screw the jar onto the lid. The freaking deer go nuts over that Skippy Creamy! Just remember to take all your trash out with you please. I'm not trying to cause a riot.

Those articles are often written a year or more in advance of publication. If they are still pimping him this time next year though.... -
