No luck this weekend for me...Steelheads replied to Steelheads's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer No that wasn't me. Saw quite a few guys on quads though going up and down the trails. There were too many campers in the good spots, and I'm sure that's why the deer were ghosts.

Good to see a few guys converted on opening weekend, but unfortunately I'm not one of them. Went to Unit 23, and saw plenty of elk, turkeys, and even a javelina, but no deer. "Murphy's Law" at its finest. I stalked within 30 yards of a cow elk just to practice, and that was exciting Guess I'll head back out this weekend, and hopefully see a few deer.

	I'll be up in 23.

I'll be using a brand new blind this weekend, and it has that "rubbery" smell to it. I've left it outside the last 3 days, and sprayed it down pretty good, but it still has a smell to it. What else could I do to make it more scent-free?

I definitely overreacted. Weather.com made it sound like a full-fledged monsoon was hitting the area, and various other sites predict a slight chance, as GH stated. I'm heading up to the Young area. Either way, I'd rather be hunting and wet than working and dry

Just saw the area I'm heading to will have isolated t-storms all day Saturday and Sunday. So much for water holes

Should I take my climber to Unit 23?Steelheads replied to Steelheads's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer I'm definitely bringing it, but I will be quadding pretty far away from where I'll be parking. My only worry if I bring it into the woods is A) I'll be stuck dragging it around all day if I don't use it or B- I'll leave it in the quad and some scumbag will steal it.

I'm heading up to Unit 23 next weekend to bowhunt. I have a climber, and was wondering if I should bring it, or just try to glass up high and plan a stalk?

Thanks. I'll be carrying a S&W .357, with 5" barrell, so I should be good (from a legal standpoint) right?

During archery season in AZ, is it legal to carry a sidearm? I've read that you can technically carry since varmit season goes year round, but wanted to make sure. -Thanks

Thanks for all the info guys. NLA, I'll get in touch with you soon about some places I plan to go poke around at over the next few weeks.

Oh man that would be awesome! I have made a few friends over at the Usery Mountain archery range, but most guys seem to be pretty secretive/selective over where they go, and who goes with them. I am getting a climber before this season. Last year, a buddy and I went out on foot each weekend, and needless to say we didn't see a whole lot.

Ladies & Gents, I have lived in the East Valley for 2 years now, and am an avid bowhunter. With an over-the-counter deer tag in hand, I got to go out a few times last year, but didn't have much luck. I'm still learning the northern & southern units, and plan to hit them pretty hard this year. I'm looking for someone experienced (although not necessary) to bowhunt with this season, and hopefully convert on a coues or mulie. If anyone is interested, let me know. Thanks, Bob
