    What was Jim Zumbo thinking???

Fatfootdoc. Yes I am full of it. I am full of the freedom to choose which firearm I own and which weapon I hunt with. I am full of the love of the hunt without harrasment for being a hunter. I am full of it because I am full of life because of the outdoor lifestyle I live. I am sorry if you don't understand my comment, I don't want to start any type of in fighting, but there is a huge responsibility that goes along with the being a spokesperson for the hunting and firearms community. Thousands of people read his written word and millions more watch his TV show. The anti-firearm community doesn't have do any but let the leaders of the hunting/firearm communty make their statements for them. They only have to magnify those foolish comments for their benefit. What was Jim Zumbo thinking???

Jim Zumbo is a leader in our hunting community. As a TV personality, feature outdoor writer for a leading hunting magazine, representative for Remington Arms (and other sporting good manufacturers), NRA host and speaker, he knows first hand what speaking out of context means. He does not have the liberty to speak his opinion because he represents so many enties of of this great sport. He knew he must beware of anything he might say or do that could be conscrewed as negative to the sport at all times. What he says to his friends and colleages is one thing but to voice his opinion in an published interview is suicide. He was so fortunate to a life we all dream of having. He deserves excactly what has happened. He did not take care of his oppurtunity nor our sport. He has gave the anti-hunter, and anti-gun owner groups another chance to use one of our own against us. I wish him the best and know he will return a smarter Jim Zumbo. Travis Roberts Tucson, AZ

    point restrictions

Hey Archery Hunters, Please understand that I am referring to rifle hunts only for whitetails in December not archery, and Archery Bull hunts in Sept and rifle/blackpowder hunts in Oct.. These hunts are premium hunts that provide us with the opportunity to harvest some world class animals! Our archery seasons for deer are not a threat to the species. We must face the facts, we will lose tags due to supply and demand. The more people apply the less chances we have i.e. less tags to go around. The only way we can convince the G&F to increase the tags in prime time is to provide them with the management tools and REVENUE.... Popular opinion will not do it. Just something to think about... point restrictions

I would like to give everyone something to think about before the next session of G&F meetings. Last year there were cries of foul play when we lost the late season hunts for whitetail and early season hunts for bull elk and recieved the Oct and Nov hunts to allow more hunters in the field. The G&F has decided to increase the elk herd by eliminating some of the cow tags. This could be a great thing for elk hunters by having more animals we could have more elk tags. If we had a 6 point rule on early season bulls (RUT) and a 3 point rule on late season whitetails, the number of tags could increase and the resource would not be damaged from over-harvesting. The trophy hunters would still have the option to hunt for trophy class animals and the meat hunters could hunt whatever they could find during the Oct/Nov deer and Nov/Dec elk hunts. There could be enough tags to allow us more chances to draw that quality tag. More tags , more money for the G&F....More hunters coming in for the Outfitter Industry....It could be a win win for all of us. We have the genetics to produce the finest Buck Deer (Muledeer and Coues Whitetail Bucks )and Bull Elk in the world. But to do so in quanities, we must manage the herds for everyone to enjoy.

  22. Hi Everyone, I want to share a few pictures with you of the great buck I was blessed with this year. I got him Sunday morning, Nov 18th around 11:30. I had scouted this area very hard this year. Every chance I had I was there looking and tracking, checking the ever changing feeding areas and water sources. I found this buck Friday morning and really thought he was another buck I was hunting. In the past three weeks I had lost track of a pair of bucks that I had been watching all year. Friday morning I found a set of large tracks in a feeding area and followed them to a small water source, I knew I had found them! There was several new tracks that I had not seen in the pass two weeks. I set up a pop up blind and decided to sit the water all day. After checking all of my trail camera disks Friday night, I changed my mind and and sat in another blind where a really nice buck had been posing friday morning. All day Saturday I thought about the tracks and about the two bucks I knew where living in the other area. These bucks are special as I have watched them grow for the past three years. The largest of them should be around six or seven years old and the other around four . As luck would have it, I did not see the picture posing buck on Saturday. Sunday morning I was up and ready at 4:00 and in the blind at 5:30, at 10:00 four animals came in and visited the water. At 11:00 I checked my watch and some time later a buck came down the trail alone. He was standing behind some brush and I knew he was different. When he walked around and stood at the water I knew he was not the same deer. As I looked through my scope I could not believe the mass and quickly decided to shoot....but he was standing facing me. As I pondered his next move, thoughts of him getting away in the thick brush made me shiver. Facing me or not I touched the trigger. I could see him fold in the scope at the sound of the shot. When I finally got to him, I could not believe my eyes, he was huge....I am truly blessed to had this experience. The next time I looked at my watch it was 12:00 noon. He is a six by five with two stickers and his gross score is 125 inches. It is still hard to believe I am so lucky. I can not post the pictures but I sent some to Doug. Maybe he will post them for me. Your humble hunter, Travis Roberts Tucson, AZ

    Scouting does PAY....

Thanks for celebrating him with me! It is hard to believe I was so lucky. I am going to SCI tomorrow to have him scored. I have to wait until Jan 19 to B&C score him. It really doesn't matter except I believe that if you are blessed with such an animal you should honor him to the fullest. If he should make the "books" he will be entered. If not he is entered into our "book". A great COUES WHITETAIL. Good luck to all of you who have the great fortune to have the Dec hunts! May your inches be many....! Travis Roberts Tucson AZ
