We have a camping area on the property, along with a septic hookup for a trailer, free of charge. The cabin is for rent by room, with prices contingent on size of group, length of stay, etc. -

SWEET! I just got the same email! Sweet is right! The same name?

My parents cabin is at the southern end of River Reservoir. They went up from Mesa Saturday to clear everything out. I told them there was no way the fire was going to burn this far. I wish there was something I could do, other than pray. God bless those who are risking their lives to stop this monster. God bless us to have the courage to fight the ignorance that has resulted in this tragedy.

Some Interesting findings in Unit 22 study
AntlerObsession replied to Bryson Bendall's topic in Coues Biology
This is the first time I have read this, and it seems to me that this study doesn't necessarily support predation as the biggest factor. During the wet years there was only a slight increase in fawn survival. I see this study supporting the lack of water source options within a deer's range as the limiting factor. If you know the only place to get water on a mountain is one tank, where are you setting up a blind? Where is every predator for 15 miles going to be? It seems like if a deer has water source options, i.e. Eastern US, they can be picky about where they go. I think it has been stated several times in this forum that if deer have an option between a tank, or rain water caught in a rock depression, deer will choose the depression. Droughts concentrate all the animals within a mile of the one tank in an area that holds water, predators and deer. Who wins the battle at the water hole? My $.02. -

Questions from a newbie
AntlerObsession replied to jrose1967's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Welcome to the obsession that is coues deer hunting! If you haven't already been through the informative portion of the site, I would start by spending a few minutes going through that! You can't spend too much time on there; there are so many nuggets of wisdom to be found. Good glass will help to make your hunt a successful one, too. You will spend more time glassing hillsides than hiking! Scout long, scout as often as you can, and have fun! Just a start, I hope this helps. -
Having a Yard Sale *** CANCELED****

Wow! That is a sight! Look at all the vultures scattering disappointed!! i'm the coyote slinking away in the grass ... Enjoy your long weekend! -
I can't imagine the feeling Clay had when I called him Monday morning after a weekend in both Heaven and He!!. I began to explain how I had shot this buck the previous Friday evening in August, and had boned the buck out and gotten back to camp about 2am the next morning. I woke early to drive home to the valley, hoping to stop by Clay's shop on my way through Payson, and finish a dream weekend at home with the family. Alas, fate had something different in mind. On a remote dirt road, about 2.5 miles from the highway, my truck began to sputter and, despite my best efforts, died, leaving me stranded. I started the hike to civilization, knowing that the longer it took to get that velvet rack to Clay, the bigger the chance of slippage. Even at the highway I had no cell reception so I started hiking. Luckily, a sympathetic gentleman gave me a ride into town, called a tow truck, and got my truck hauled off the mountain. Well, no mechanics' shops are open in the White Mountains on a Sunday, and we couldn't get the parts to fix it, so it wasn't until Monday afternoon that I was finally headed home. Despite my best efforts to ruin a beautiful velvet mount, Clay took on the challenge of salvaging this lost cause. He went to work immediately, prepping the cape and skull and readying the antlers for preservation treatment. He let me take a few minutes to oggle some of the other trophies he was working on, from rhinos to red stag, and more 100+ Coues than you could shake a 7mm mag at! Well, this is how the mount came out, and I would like to thank Clay for doing an immaculate job on my dream buck, despite a he!!ish trip back!

I have had mine for about 2 years. It has everything you could possibly need to call in predators: clear, loud, easy to operate... I also love that its small enough to pack without too much weight or size. That being said, I have had issues calling in cold conditions. Springerville, over New Years, 15 degree weather, the controller started to malfunction, and wouldn't communicate with the call. I recently attended that mt lion calling seminar in Mesa, and was blown away by the volume of the call used by the presenter. It was about 2.5x louder than my spitfire, which has prompted me to consider auxiliary speakers to increase volume. Outside if the temp issue, I consider it a great call that is affordable, compact and effective.

Me too... someday... Has anyone found any illuminated reticles to be effective? They seem gimmicky to me, and don't seem to justify the cost, weight, maintenance, etc.
-
Gentlemen, I have recently been researching newer scopes as I may be in the market for one soon. There are so many different variables to consider, the least of which being the plethera of different reticles out there. My question is: What is your favorite reticle for Coues? Varmint? And Why? Also, if you feel so inclined, I would love to hear what your power preferences are, if you had your scope factory set for drop compensation, for different hunting scenarios? Can't wait to hear about your personal scope setup!

These Bighorn crossed the road a few hundred yards in front of us on the road home after T-Ball! They started playing, leaping around and doing a little head butting before starting to move up the hill. They were mostly juveniles, but there was one bigger ram that knew who was boss! I hope you enjoy the pics!

I've been watching this site for a few months and my conclusion is that there are deals to be had, but the savings aren't worth the time I've spent checking on it for the right deal. Most of the stuff can be purchased for the same price +/- 5% on other sites: Amazon, Overstock, EBay. Great rush for someone who has the money to be impulsive though!

The link gives 2 sizes. Is this the large or XL?

They are so cute, and soooo fast! We set seeds outside our window and we have about 20 quail come visit. Can't wait to see the little biddies running around!

We wanted to stamp the driveway at our cabin as though a doe and her fawn had walked across before it was dry. We had a fawn hoof from a coyote kill, but it was too hard to get it to look right, with how floppy the hoof was. I ended up carving a doe hoof and fawn hoof out of wood, and attached them to a steel pipe so I could press them way out in the middle of the floor without stepping on the wet concrete. It ended up looking really good, even the local plumbers who considered themselves to be avid hunters couldn't tell the difference. A lot of fun for the kids to discover and follow too! Next time I'm up there I'll snap some photos.

Would love to see a picture!

Where are you coming from?

Wolves manage coyotes the same way ranchers managed wolves... annihilation. And both for the same reason... survival. You can't advocate one and not the other without sounding hypocritical. The issue with delisting wolves isn't who's killing what's killing what's. It's whether we want involved, engaged people determining the management of wolves, or politicians whose only concern is who is throwing the most money at them.
