Next week I will be making a trip to Cabelas to get new boots. I have decided on the Meindl Perfekt Hunter or the Denali, whichever fells best when I try them on. As I have been searching about info on boots I see a lot of references to sock liners and smartwool socks. I have never worn anything other than regular cotton socks so I know nothing about these. My Questions: What is the purpose of a sock liner? Do I need it? which ones Wool Socks? Is the purpose of wools socks warmth or blisters or moisture or all of the above. The perfect hunters already have 400 grams of thinsulate and I am thinking they may be hot anyways. The wool socks may just make it worse, right?. 15$-20$ a pair seems like a lot for socks. especially when you figure you will need about 7 pairs or more. My current boots have 200 grams of thinsulate and I have never really been too cold in them. I mostly hunt the desert. Blisters were only a problem when I decided to do a several mile overnight hike for the break-in period (my own stupid fault). Insoles? Do I need them? Which ones? The Meindls seem to have good insoles already, especially the Hunters. What kind of wax or waterproofing stuff should I get. I have never done anything to my current boots and I am thinking that is why the waterproofing did not last. Also heard that the wax helps with noise made by some Meindl boots. I want to try on the boots with the socks I will be wearing in the field so I need to figure this out before I get there. Thanks

The store is looking good, a lot more inventory than before. The techno hunt is really cool too.

I have been shooting my Matthews SQ2 for a long time and It has been a great bow, but I decided this year I would upgrade. I spent the last couple of months doing a lot of reseach on what would be the best fit for me, and it was not easy. There are a lot of great bows that have come out since I was last bow shopping. Everytime I would start to lean towards one I would get excited about another. I ended up with a 2011 PSE Evo dreamseason. I was not even considering PSE at first but it kept hearing about so I went and shot it. It really seems like a great shooting bow and it is smoking fast compared to what I had. The draw is very smooth for a dual cam speed bow too. Anyone other CWT members shooting the evo? Here is a quick cell phone pic

Well I shoot PSE Radial X-Weave 300's 29" with 100gr heads insert is probably another 10-15 gr, and the fletching and nock are probably 10 gr, so looking at an arrow weight somewhere around 380-390 gr. I almost bought the x weaves they looked like good arrows. My bow is also set at 70#and 29dl so I should be just a little slower than yours. Good luck this season!

What grain arrows you shooting? I bought an evo recently too and just ordered some harvest time h2 arrows that should weigh about 400 grains.

Yeah Mark it is closed.

Azorion, what is the spine strength on your arrow. I shoot a simular set up to you and was also thinking about the harvest time arrows.

Really sorry about this. I would also be happy to lend a hand with clean up and repair. I live in safford so it is not too far of a drive.

The last two years my wife has gone to girls camp in Alpine with the young women from our church. During the time she is gone to girls camp I take our 3 boys to "Boys Camp". We left Tuesday and set up camp near Luna Lake. The Wallow Fire was already burning by this time so we stayed clear of that area. We got camp set up and headed over to Luna to wet a line. Camp The wind was blowing hard but we managed to land a few nice ones. My oldest Boy Hunter with his first catch of the trip. These bigger fish had orange meat and taste so much better imo than the young stockers. After a bit of fishing we headed back to camp for tacos and burros. Wednesday the plan was to head over to Hulsey Lake and then over to Nelson Reservoir. The bite was so good at Hulsey that we never made it to Nelson though. I had one pole set up for power bait and the boys were throwing super dupers. As soon as the bait would settle at the bottom the fish were hitting it. I would hook the fish and hand it off to one of the kids. I think I only reeled in one fish the whole week but I get more satisfaction out of watching them anyways. They caught some on super dupers but before long I had another pole set up with power bait and everyone was trying to set the hook. They were mostly small fish but we managed a couple of nice ones. The fire was starting to blow up by this time and the skies were turning dark Some of our catch from Hulsey Thursday the plan was to load up the tent and some supplies and head for the reservation. We planned to camp at either Drift Fence or Pachita, but from the time we woke up we knew the fire was getting bad. The view looking south down the trail from the Alpine store We gassed up and headed over to the reservation anyway to see what happened. We got to Reservation Lake and decided to fish there for a while, but it was obvious we better get back to camp rather than head deeper into the res. The fishing at Reservation Lake was good though. My 4 year old Rusten Fisher living up to his name. He was fishing with a super duper. I was walking back to the car when I heard him yell out "dad I got one, he's a jerker" He managed to get him in and it turned out to be a nice Brown. Hunter and my youngest Camm getting in on some action too. As much as we wanted to tent camp further in on the reservation we headed back toward Apline. By this time it was around 1:00pm and apparently they closed and evacuated the forest while we were gone. As I drove thru Big lake it was completely vacant. I talked with a Sheriff deputy on the way out and he updated me on the closure. Some pics on the way back to camp. It was really an erie feeling driving back to alpine with no one around. Reminded me of the Rodeo Chedeski Fire (I was there on an engine during that fire when all of Show Low etc. was evacuated). We got back to Alpine and had dinner at the Bear Wallow cafe, then went back to camp. At that point I was glad we did not make it deeper into the reservation. It looked as if we better think about packing up camp and heading out of there. Our camp was back in the punch bowl behind Luna Lake, so we were still a ways from the fire but it did not look good. On the way back to camp I met with another Deputy and he gave me the mandatory evacuation notice so we started packing up. A few more pics. The Alpine Valley is in there somewhere All in all it was a great trip and an adventure to say the least. The kids had a blast and had some neat experiences. I hate to see al that country going up in flames, I pray that many of the structures and property can be saved.

I am leaving in the morning to take my 3 boys fishing and camping up in alpine. We will be there until Friday. We usually Camp near Luna and then make day trips from there over to the other lakes. Does anyone have any recent information on hot spots? Last year we caught all we wanted and had a blast I'm hoping for a repeat. Also thinking about fishing on the reservation a little too if anyone has fished anything there lately. Thanks A Pic from last year

I have Matthews SQ2 that I've hunted with for years, I recently bought a new evo so it needs to go. Looking to get 210.00. It is a bare bow. Would trade for a youth bow for my 8 year old son or I'm also looking for a optix xr sight, orgoldtip 7595 arrows or ????. The sq2 is a sweet bow that is a joy to shoot. Ibo is 305 fps. 70 lb limbs draw length is 30". Pics later

Lionhunter what is the other bow your considering? Just wondering if it was one of the ones I looked at.
