  1. Alot of people on this site from around the Safford area..Any of you getting hits on your CC

I got hit for deer and turkey

3 of my choices for deer were for 31, late1, early2, middle3, then 27,28 late, and last choice 32 late

hopefull I pull off a dec hunt, it would be nice to chase them in dec with a rifle instead of a bow.

what about the rest of the saffordites any luck?

  2. Amanda, always wondered about your photo.

It looks exactly like the range as your heading down that last stretch into Deer Creek trailhead.

    Unit 32,...Am I correct.

    Any other takers.

    Dan

Now that you mention it, It does look like Deer Creek. If I'm thinking of the right place, there should be a nice tank just off to the left. Which would be the north?

If we are talking about the pictureat the top of the page I would say it looks alot like the place in deer creek that you are talking about but I dont think the rock faces are steep enough. I would say it is in 32 somewhere though

  3. I have glassed a lot of deer in the area recently so i know ther is a good population in there. I had the camera at a spring And I am pretty sure deer went in there after the cam was damaged there was alot of fresh sign. but I also think they are watering at other places as rain has filled every nook and cranny latley.

As for the lion I would love to sit and wait him out but things have hectic latley I am luckly to get out once a week.

question do bears ever kill large deer like a lion would?

I a copy machine at work that says it has a scanner feature but I have no idea how to use it or how I would post the pictures if I did scan them. any advice?

    thanks

    SA

  4. in the last couple of days i went to get two of my cameras I had set up . no digital so I cant post pics. but anyway the first cam took first picture of a big a$$ bear with his face right in the camera and the next 20 picture was of my camera ponited at the ground one of the pictures had hm walking away. so no dear in this roll.

the other camera took a good picture of a bobcat a skunk, and three pictures of a bear on the third pic he was ripping my camera off the tree thus no more pics.

I have never had bears mess with my cameras before. does anyone else have this problem?

I also found a fresh lion kill nearby. it was a coupe days old and only had the belly opened and very little meat was missing. kinda gave me the heebee jeebees like I was being watched.

  5. I still am not over it yet but I missed a really nice buck this year in 31. we found him Sat. morning but could not get a shot. We found him again Sun. morning and missed a perfect shot at 370 yards. We could not find him monday morning, my hope is to find him again in december w/bow if he makes it through the Nov. hunt. My question: do you guys think he will still be roaming the same areas through Dec. or should I give up on that buck, and move on.

  6. Today was my last chance to go scouting before next weeks hunt. I went out one more time to watch the sunrise over our canyon. I could only stay until around 9:00am glassed 5 bucks, 3 forks and two 3x2's and several does. I cant hardly wait for the hunt to start we have seen a lot of deer I only hope they are still there next week.

  7. I just got my first roll of film developed from my first trail cam. I had it set to take three pictures everytime motion is detected. on every ocasion the deer looked directly at the the camera when it went off most of the deer seemed to just continue on it thier buisness but with one doe you could see her looking at the camera on first picture and then running away on the next two. I dont know wheather she came back or not becuase its hard to tell one doe from another and it was at the end of the roll.

and on the digital issue, I wish I had one. in the week I had my camera out it took all 24 exposers within 24 hours but the sensor was set off 99 times(3 times for each deer)actually it was likely more, but 99 is as high as the counter goes. If I had a digital I could be looking at at least 33 more deer instead of the seven I got. java script:emoticon('')

either way it is exiting looking at your pictures.

  8. Build your own or I'll build it for you. You can have a digital cam and setup for about $325-350. the cost up front it a bit more but you can put 100 pics on the card the cam comes with and you only keep what you want.

I wish I could justify to my wife that I need $300.00 for camera to take pictures of animals walking down the trail for some reason she does'nt see my need. so until we get the credit card paid off it is only small purchases for me. thanks for the offer though and maybe down the road i will take you up on it becuase digital would be he way to go.

on another note I just ordered the stealth cam from bass pro $69.83 with shippiping paid two extra dollars to get it here on tuesday. I can't wait. I also got to talking with my dad and he has a Trailmaster infared sensor game monitor that has been sitting in the box for several years. he used it once and a rat ate a hole through the camera cable. I ordered another camera cable for ten bucks so know I should have two cameras. My dad paid about $500.00 for it new and it seems like a nice system from what I have read. though it may be a little hard to set up. does anybody else have this type of camera that uses the active infared sensor? How do you like it?

  9. I am looking into buying the Stealth cam MC2-G only 59.00 from Bass pro shops. I know you get what you pay for but this is all I can aford now, and I am not smart enough to build my own.

Has anybody used this cam with success. I have read a lot of reviews on the net mostly good. One concern I have is the range that the sensor will pick up motion to take pictures. one review said it would not work past 12 feet, and that will not cut it in the country I will set it up in.

    any suggestions

    thanks

  10. Thanks for the replies,

As far as the type of country I like to hunt ?I would have to say I prefer the more open areas with ocotillo and mesquite and juniper, I try and stay away from the really thick manzenetta only becuase it is a chore to hike through. The places I would hunt in 32 were as far off the beaten path as I could get. I am no stranger to hiking in fact often my job requires it. I like to drive as far back in on 4wd roads as I can and then hike from there. There is nothing I hate more than to spend a day hiking only to come across somebody driving down a road that I spent all day hiking to. So I know that maps are important for that as well as identifing terrain. I do have the F.S. map of the pineleno range but i still need to get some topo maps. My optics are 20x50 pentax that I have had for years and are not in the best shape not to mention there mediocore quality to began with. they mount to a silk tripod, I also have 10x Stieners that I sometimes use depending on the country I'm in.

I happen to draw a 32 mullie tag this year. I have a few maps of the unit, maybe you could help me as well

MORE D I 'd be happy to share some info with you. Which hunt did you draw? where you from. PM me

    thanks guys

    Scott

  11. I am new to the forum and am glad I found it. I have hunted unit 32 for as long as I can remember and while I have hunted coues a little with bow I generally always hunt mullies. This year I got a wild hair and decided to put in for the 31 whitetail oct. hunt, mostly becuase it is close to home and easier to scout.I know a few decent areas that I have been scouting a little since getting drawn, but I dont have a lot of confidence just yet. I dont have the best for optics and I cant afford a guide. I know people dont want to share thier favorite hunting spots with everybody, but some general suggestions would be cool. I am not nessesarly looking for a record buck just an enjoyable hunt. I live in Safford any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks
