We inject the antlers with a tanning/pickle solution and then they are immersed in the same solution for five days. -

Lightweight and great for taxidermy habitats or home decoration. Created in house at Wild Heritage Taxidermy. Many sizes and styles available, all casted from authentic Metate and Manos here in Az. You can see these in person at the Az Taxidermy Show in Phx, in June. Dale

Big bear from the Rez and a real scrapper too. This bear had over 120 bite wounds in him that needed to be repaired. Also half of his left ear had been bitten of at some point. Lots of character. Tip: Please do not rug cut your bear if you want a lifesize mount, a dorsal cut is recommended. If you want more information on how to do this, feel free to contact us.

Picked up yesterday, I can actually move around in the shop again.....

Here are some photos from the show. I decided last minute to take the Mountain Lion Pedestal mount from the ATAA show, to Sioux Falls, SD for the National Taxidermy Competition. After 22 hours of driving and 3 days of waiting I was thrilled to see I received a 1st Place ribbon in the Gamehead Division. I took some pictures of some of the other mounts, thought you all might like them.

Antlers Restaurant in Young
WildHeritageTaxidermy replied to WildHeritageTaxidermy's topic in The Campfire
No affiliation, it's a great place, we are very happy to have them here !! Although we all miss "some things" about the "old Antlers" I really think the "new Antlers" is going to be very popular !! -
Rebuilding is finally over, and the new Antlers is open. While it does not look like the old Antlers the food is great and the new owners are good people. Scott and Pam have donated time and again to our Fire Department and are committed to having the Antlers be someplace we all enjoy gathering at. Lifesize Black Bear Mount
WildHeritageTaxidermy replied to WildHeritageTaxidermy's topic in Taxidermy
Stay tuned ! His opponent is the next lifesize bear that I am mounting. It'll be a few weeks, but I'll post pics of him also when he's finished !! -
Luke, if you can get to a freezer fairly quickly (less than 2 hrs) just freeze him whole. Put him in a cooler w/ frozen water bottles until then. Leave him spread out in the freezer until good and cold, then you can bag before frozen solid. If it's impossible to get to a freezer that quickly you will need to skin it out, because the carcass will hold too much heat. Your best option would be to case skin since you are unsure of what exactly you want to do with him (rug, lifesize ect. ). Your taxidermist will make completely different incisions for a rug or a lifesize piece !! There is no need to "gut" him, and just makes a big mess. You can leave the feet and head in. Keep the skin cold and dry until froze or to your taxi. Again frozen water bottles are better for keeping the skin dry than loose or bag ice. Good luck and if you need some instructions for case skinning let me know. Dale

National Taxidermy Assn. Competition 2011

To my knowledge Mark Plunkett did not have a mount at the National Show in South Dakota. The leopard on the branch, was mounted by Bill Neuman, I believe he is from MN. Dale -
[quote name=Davidson' timestamp='1311550298' post= So I am wondering if anybody out there can give me some advice on my mountain lion. I really want to rug him, but I dont want to drop all of the money into right now. Is it smart, or even possible to get it tanned now and and then save him to rug it down the road? I really want to preserve it, and my wife wants it out of the freezer. Trying to weigh my options....Does anybody have any cool ideas to do something different with the hide itself? It is not a particularly big lion 75 pounds or so. Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated! Thanks, Kris Kris, Yes, you can and should definitely have your lion tanned now to rug/mount later. Depending on how the hide is stored in the freezer you run the risk of freezer burn, it is a real threat and can set in faster than most people think. You will want to talk to your taxidermist about what tannery he will send it to, as some Taxidermists use different Tanneries for different applications. As for other ideas for a mount, I have attached a picture of a shoulder pedestal that we recently won with at our ATAA State taxidermy competition and also this past weekend won a First place at the National Taxidermy Competition in Sioux Falls, SD this is a great way to capture the essence of a Mountain Lion, also a picture of a Lifesize mount and heres a link to a Lion rug with a leather trim instead of the traditional felt. [http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24778forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24778'] Feel free to call us if you have any questions or want to discuss your options further. 928-238-0097 Dale

That's the natural velvet, preserved "In House" using a pickle/ tan method. I really can't take all the credit, That velvet was naturally beautiful to start with.

Elkman, Since each piece is custom built to the customer's request, which results in many variables, a mount similar to this one will run $1000 - $1200. -

Don't think I should post my entries on this site before the judging. The judge may frequent this site. Sorry, I'll post everything after judging.
