    Monsoon Forecast

I've been saying we should have some good ones this year. That guy is saying nothing.... with some cool slides. I've never heard anybody on the news predicting good monsoons. Nobody knows till they're on there way. And they know the same way I do, look outside!

Why don't you like the sewn in floors?? I thought a sewn in floor would do well in colder weather. Interesting point about the air flow through canvas vs. Alaknak. Hmmm. you made me stop and think.

    wall tent advice

Hey guys, looking at buying a wall tent this summer. I'd like to get one with a stove I can maybe cook over. I have zero knowledge of what to look for or whata fair price is. Not opposed to buying used if condition is good. Thanks!

    wall tent advice

I'm think I'm gonna go with the Alaknak 12x12 for the simple fact that I think it will be cooler on hot hunts. That and I won't have anybody over 5'3" helping me put it up. LOL

Hey Slim, how does that Bighorn feel when it gets warm out in the desert? Does it breath well? As you know I'm a desert rat too and it will be set up in the flats every dec/jan.

    wall tent advice

Thanks for the replies fellas. I had a trailer before and I didn't like how limited I was as to where I could camp. Not to mention storage, up keep and price. I've shopped around a bit online and I have a general idea of what I want but I wasn't sure if I wanted to go canvas or go with the high speed low drag Cabelas stuff. This tent will be a 2 season tent for camping in the summer and hunting in the fall. It will also do some time in the low desert in Jan. We have 2 Elk hunts this year and 4 elk tags, my two 14 year olds have never hunted big game and my fiance has never hunted Elk so this should be a great adventure. I want to make it as comfortable as possible for them and thats why I'm looking at outfitter type tents. If it were just me, I'd be happy sleeping in the back of the truck... lol. Thanks again and feel free to keep the comments coming. I'll keep you all posted.

    Wallow Fire

I don't think anyone would disagree that we need to be praying. The problem is that there should be no reason to close areas down if the forest were managed correctly. Ok well maybe during the dryest times a closure is in order but the fact that dumb eco-elite hippys are stopping what truly needs to be done is unreal to me. The simple fact is we are here, people live in those mountains and they aren't going to leave! That isn't Yellowstone up there. Its inhabited by humans and they need to manage it as such. So stupid!!!!

    Stupid, stinkin', coyotes

As some of you may know, I work for a body shop over in Peoria. Well, I was looking at a truck that was brought into the shop yesterday. It was an F-250 that was beat all to heck. Roof was caved in, both bedsides were bent out to the point of actually cracking the panel up on the corners of the bedrails, scratched all to heck from one end to the other, tires were tore up and thats only what I could see at a glance. I asked the insurance adj what the heck happened and he explained it was a theft recovery. I took a walk around the truck and saw that it had the wildlife type Arizona plates on it. I was sick. Some poor fellow hunter out there had his truck stolen by some piece of trash and they used it to haul border jumpers up from the border and maybe drug mules as well. I asked the adjuster how long it had been gone and he told me not long at all. He told me that the owner of the truck told him the only put 300 miles on the truck and it was perfect before it was stolen. I'm telling you guys, it must have been the hardest 300 miles any truck has ever driven to do that damage. The adjuster said he deals with these trucks all the time. He also said the truck would almost deffinately total. So I'm thinking: 1. The insurance company is going to have to replace this truck. 2. The owner will probably not get what he owed on the truck and it will end up costing him more out of pocket to get the same exact truck. 3. It was abandoned so these POS's got away with it. I think the owner and the insurance company should sue the federal government for the price of the truck and the insurance companies as a whole should sue the feds for every car and truck they've had to replace due to this crap. I'm sorry guys and gals but this is B.S. and needs to be stopped. The reason I know it was coyotes is because of where it was found, the stuff left in the bed of the truck, and the caved in roof (they ride on the roof). I don't want to post photos becase I didn't ask the owner for permission. I might be able to later today. Its appauling what they did to this truck!

    Boat knowledge needed

Last comment was a good one. If the owner doesn't take care of the little stuff, he didn't take care of the big stuff. This Arizona sun will ruin a boat fast and thats the kind of neglect that turns them into money pits. A boat motor can be more reliable than the one in your car if taken care of and run regularly. But, who has the time to do that? Its gotta be run at least twice a month to keep those seals lubed, otherwise the fluids settle and everything dries out. I'm very leary of older boats with low hours, only means everything is dry rotted. I'd stay clear of the boat you looked at. If you're patient you can find a nice one for just a little more money.

    Stupid, stinkin', coyotes

That may be so but who's fault is it that they are here to begin with? Who has the power to make the changes to protect us from this? Not the government employees that are finding these vehicles, I can promise you that. This has nothing to do with the great people that are in the trenches protecting and serving. They have no more law making power than you or I and my comment in no way reflects on them. It has to do with the law makers we vote in that don't respect our wishes and do what they want. Illegal immagration, health care reform, gun laws... in the end they do what serves their own interests, not ours. Now, I refer to law makers as a whole. We have some pretty solid guys representing the state of Arizona, not all of them but some. Our Governer is the best we've had in my 38 years of being alive. Some may disagree but I doubt many will. I hope this fence will at least slow these vermin down a little... I hope.

    Stupid, stinkin', coyotes

I gotta say, I'm sick and tired of the whole thing. Coyotes, illegals, drugrunners. I personally don't hate anyone but I do hate what it has done to this state. I mean really, there are areas in our state and in our country that we can't hunt because its too dangerous???? I you freaking kidding me?? This is absolute BS. Makes me want to go down with an AR-15 and take care of a few things myself. And... we as Americans seem pretty complacent as a whole. Would my Grandfathers generation that served in WWII let this happen??? heck no!!! So why do we??? Back to the truck. This hunter, whoever he is, worked hard for that truck. Worked hard to buy it and maintain it. Was probably pretty proud of it. To have it stolen by some piece of trash to haul drugs or whatever else up here from some third world heck hole, only to cost us as Americans more money when our insurance rates go up and to try and peddle drugs to our kids... I'm gonna explode!!! Makes me want to nuke the whole place!

    Unit 10 Late Bull

Wow, thanks for all the great info Jim. Thanks for the pics too. I wanted my fiance to get an idea of what kind of bulls were in there. Get her pumped ya know. Thank you so much bro.

    Unit 10 Late Bull

Well it finally happened, 10 years without an elk tag and we finally drew. I was wondering if anybody could fill me in on past expiriences with this hunt. I'd love to see some pics. I know some good areas and I've spent time in there, I just wanted to know what everbody here thought of the hunt. I do know the potential to see big bulls is there but I also know it can be a tough hunt. Any feedback would be much appriciated.

    Unit 10 Late Bull

Access is pretty good. There are private areas with no access but there's still a ton of huntable country. I thinks its 51 percent private but its also a huge unit.

    elk vs woves

Oh you're kidding me right??? OOHHHH Lark I'm gonna get you back man! I was really pissed off too.

    elk vs woves

I'd like to see a copy of that. Thanks for the info. I knew years ago thats what the whole point of re-introduction was. My Great Great Great Grandfather Max Balke settled on the Blue river in 1890. I know from stories that they worked hard to deal with predators in that country and it was always a battle. Hard living back in those days. To see all their hard work pissed on by environmentalist dirtbags makes me sick. Theres no use for wolves out there. Especially in-bred, half-breed wolves. grrr.

    Sick of the Arrogance

Who gives a rip? If there are guys out there faking the funk and pretending to be big dogs, why should that effect you? It shouldn't. You should be so busy scouting, shooting your bow, camping and teaching your kids how to hunt (if you have them) that this crap shouldn't bother you at all. If these guys want to feel big and bad and pretend they did it on their own, let them, does it effect your draw odds? Thats all that really matters nowadays.

    2011 elk/Antelope tags

You want to talk about a huge almost mistake. I was pulling up to G&F to drop off apps and somehow(God)I thought to myself "Did I date the checks??". I opened both envelopes and sure as heck... I didn't. I got them dropped with minutes to spare. Sorry to hear about your mistake there man. I've done it too. My brother-in-law has forgotten to mark the resident box twice. Don't worry, you'll draw again soon. This is the first Az elk tag I've drawn since 01.

    2011 elk/Antelope tags

Posted this on the other thread but I will repeat myself just this once...lol Fiance and I drew late rifle bull in 10 (her first elk hunt) and our 14 year olds drew cow tags in 3a/3c jr. First elk hunt for both of them. Got my fill of Antelope while I lived in Wyoming, don't even apply. I'll be lucky if I even pull my rifle out of its case with all these newbies I'm taking. J/K I'm thrilled

    Chino Grande Ranch 19B

I'm impressed with how G&F played this one. The fact that the landowner waited till the last possible moment shows thier true intention. As far as the hunters that did apply for 1st and 2nd choice hunts there, well that just sucks. But whats the alternative? Stop the draw for 65 tags? There are thousands upon thousands of hunters waiting to find out if they drew Elk and Antelope tags in other units. Should we all just wait for 4000 or so applicants to apply for thier Antelope tags all over again? G&F was right to say this is a no win for everyone and I'm sure sorry for anyone who didn't put 5 choices on thier app. If you think this is bad, try hunting Wyoming. Our landowners are a dream to work with compared to that state. Some of the best country in Wyoming is on private land and if you get caught by the landowner you stand a preety good chance of getting shot at. No B.S.

Thats like getting a DUI on the way to the bar! Well, they are only hurting themselves.

    To all the single men

Big congrats. I found mine in Wyoming. And trust me, it is truly a blessing to have someone in your life that supports your love of the hunt. I've seen both sides of the coin now and I couldn't imagine going back to anything that resembled my last marriage. Amanda got to meet my fiance at the expo and told her about the womens pig hunt she did, she's hoping that Amanda does it again so she can go.

    Poll: For or Against

It would be a law they can't enforce. Its just another law and we don't need any more laws. Wildlife would be better served if they put the money and efforts toward predator control and habitat improvements.
