The hunt all started back in june when I got a call from a dad of a kid who drew a youth only ibex hunt in NM. I have been guiding in the Florida mountains of NM for 5 years and have taken a total of 15 ibex for my clients. I took my client out on October 3rd and we got on a group of 100 ibex. We got on the ibex at around 6p.m, and he took the first shot at 7p.m. The shot was at about a 60 degree angle at 310 yards. The first shot struck the billy right behind the shoulder. By the time we got up to where the billy was standing it was too dark to see, so we decided to come back the next day and find him. It was tough finding blood the next day, because it had rained, but eventually picked up a good trail. This ibex ran about 200 yards before dying. This was a fast and furious hunt with plenty of action.

I drew the third hunt in unit 16 in NM. Bulls were quite, and all alone. I passed up on several 300" bulls hoping to get one bigger than my last. On the 4th day of the hunt I hiked into the bottom of a huge canyon and glassed this bull about 500 yards away. Immediately I planned a stalk to get withinn bow range. Took me about an hour to get across to the other side where this big boy was, but eventually i got there. I positioned myself about 100 yards from him, in some heavy brush with a few shooting lanes. I threw out a cow call and without any hesitation he bugled right back. The bull covered the 50 yards I needed him to in order to get a shot, and at about 55 yards I drilled him right behind the shoulder. He only went about 30 yards and piled up. What a fun and difficult hunt!!!
