    Salt Lake City Expo

Just got home from the Expo. Went up with brother Bob (Ultra300mag).. Was good to see Amanda and Jim. Great booth again, with some great heads. Always fun talking to them. Got new stickers as well.
  5. Lesson to be learned.... When a buck is chasing a doe hard, and his horns are gleaming in the sun, wait for him to stop and look him over good... .. I had passed on several 95-100 inch bucks in 4 days, and on the 5th day shot this one in the heat of the moment. Wrong move, but I did it, and have to live with it. I wish I had let him live another year or two.. He grosses 86 and 3. We had a great trip to Mexico, with 0 problems and a great time. A 125 inch buck was shot in camp, and several others over 110 were seen but not taken. My Mule Deer (pictures posted in the Mule Deer threads) made me happier the day after I shot the Coues.

    January Sonora Coues

Thanks guys. I'm not taking anything away from the hunt or the experience at all. I couldn't have been in a better or more beautiful place enjoying the time with my brother and friends. I wouldn't trade the hunt for anything. Don't need a Waambulance Wade. It's not oh poor me. I just feel like it would have been nice for the deer to go another couple of years for someone else to take. Most all of you know what it's like to have passed on much nicer deer, and then have that happen. Honestly I would have been much happier to have gone home without a Coues. And absolutely, I couldn't be any happier to have taken the Mule Deer. He was between 8-9 years old, and had hardly anything left for teeth, so he wouldn't have been around too many more years. It was a great hunt, and I didn't intend it to mean that it was "only an 86 inch deer". It was just that for what I was after, and what deer I had seen, I should have taken more time to size him up//

    2011 Sonora Muley

Thanks Ernesto, and I'm sure you know where and who we were with. Would do it all over again. Not as nervous now. But I'll have to save up for a few more years I'm afraid.

    2011 Sonora Muley

Thanks guys. I feel very fortunate to have taken such a fine buck. I went from almost the lowest of lows (pulling the trigger on a Coues buck that I wish I would have let live another year or two) to the highest of highs the next day with this buck. As Ultra300 said, it was by far the easiest crossing we've ever made.
  16. WOW!! Hope you find him again.

why would anyone want to hunt WY?

Bill, I lived in Kemmerer, which was about 50 miles from the ranch, but spent alot of time there. I didn't know your friends. My friends, the Cornia's, live in Woodruff Utah which borders the ranch. All 3 of the boys work for Deseret guiding hunts and working their cattle for them.

why would anyone want to hunt WY?

ultra300mag is correct. I lived near this area for years. Deseret Land and Livestock has a CWMU unit. There are some tags that go on the draw to lucky hunters, and they sell several hunts that are in the 10,000 dollar range. As stated, the Ranch is in Utah, right on the Wyoming border. Several years ago while living in Wyoming, I was lucky enough to have a chance at a huge bull that had come out of the ranch and into Wyoming. I shot and missed the 370 class bull at 600 yards.. Oh to have had the rifle I shoot now, at the time.. I know the employees of the ranch usually pick up the sheds.
