This is one heck of a predicament to have hahaha....

The vortex is a nasty broad head. My dad was having a heck of a time bh tuning his crossbow last year and i put a vortex on for him. He was shooting dots at 40yds with them. He hammered a doe at 25 yds and the trauma was unreal. Huge cutting diameter and a strong head. I was very impressed with the performance.

WOW!!! Sorry for your loss! -
My go to everyday pack is my Badlands 2200. I bought it right after I moved to Az and have beat the heck out of it. Great pack! I use it now for getting ready for my deployments since it is better than the packs that the AF wants to give us. I load it with about 35lbs of gear, hook my pooch up to the waist belt with a D ring and hit the road. I'm looking at the Mystery Ranch for my "replacement"...not that it need replaced but I had to find something to tell the old lady when she give me crap about having too many packs. I truly believe that if you spend the money on a good pack, it is money well spent. I like everyone else have bought numerous inferior 35-100 dollar packs only to get disappointed and throw it in the pile in the garage. Pay the bucks, once you get over the sticker shock you will be happy with a bag that will last you a long time.

+1 I am pretty sure that you could shoot your elk anywhere you have a shot, and you would have enough help to bucket brigade it out of the canyons!

I've got a Sightron on my S&W .22 pistol. It has been great! I have had it for about 6 years and it has taken all of the abuse that a .22 pistol normally takes and the scope has held up great. I originally got it for shooting gophers in MT and it was perfect. I know the rifle you are putting is NOT a .22 but in my opinion my Sightron has been a great purchase and I would not hesitate to get another one!

Looking for some suggestions here. I have had my Elk Hunters for about a year now and have yet to wear them daily because I still haven't been able to break them in right. I have conditioned them numerous times with mink oil and wear them around the house and on a few hunts. The part that gets me is the heel cup. It has yet to get comfortable enough to wear the boots all day. What suggestions do you guys have for getting them right? Should I just soak them in water and wear them dry, or does someone have a better idea? I know these are great boots from friends recommendations and read great reviews of them. What do you guys think? And I'm not selling them to buy Kennitreks haha! Thanks for the help!!!!!!!

GutPile, Those are the boot I am talking about. I don't like in AZ any more, so the sole should hold up better back east. The terrain isn't nearly as harsh here hiking through the forrest. I have some of the original Pronghorns from the year they came out that lasted me 7 seasons, the GoreTex liner finally crapped out and pulls out when I take them off. They were by far the most comfartable hunting boot I've worn.

I used a Rage on a 23 Late bull hunt a few years ago and didn't get crap for penetration and in turn lost the bull. It was probably all my fault but it completely turned me off to the Rage. Last year I killed deer with Tekans and Schwackers and they both performed like a dream. With the Schwacker I punched through both shoulders and got a complete pass through of an Illinois doe at 30 yards. The blood trail was nasty and easy to follow even though she only went about 35 yards after the shot. There was no damage at all to the head even after crushing all the bone that it did. The Tekan's did a great job as well. 25 and 40 yd shots ontwo Virginia deer and the arrows never slowed down. Blood trail was heavy and the deer only went about 50 yards each. Tekan's held up just as good as the Schwacker's and I have loads of confidense in both heads. I made the Tekans my go to head for this year but wouldn't think twice about putting a Schwacker in my quiver. Good luck on your hunt and I hope my info helps you (or makes the decision more difficult HAHA).

I have heard nothing but good things about Kenetreks but they sure are proud of their boots.

Last season I switched from Gold Tip Pro Hunter 55/75's to Carbon Express Mayhem's with blazer vanes and I couldn't be happier. I am shooting 68lbs out of my Switchback XT with a 28.5 in draw. I got complete pass throughs on 4 deer with 100 gr Tekan's. The Mayhem's fly true and group well out to 80 yds with my set up and with the forward weight in them they hit hard! There are a lot of good arrows out there and you sure do have a number to choose from, good luck!

I usually shoot bright colors (flo green or white) but last year I bought some Mayhems with red and yellow blazers and flame arrow wraps. I'm not normally into flames but they looks pretty sweet!
