I have looked at them. I tend to look at what the top shooters in the world are using. I'm using a bartlein barrel and a McMillan stock because they tend to be used by the top shooters in the world right now. The razor is the second most used scope, behind the Schmidt and Bender. I don't think you can go wrong with the Valdada, razor gen 2, or nightforce atacr f1. This will be going on a custom 6.5 284 that is currently being built. My stock was shipped today. I cant wait to get this thing put together.

I use the gutless method without a bone saw. you can do everything with a knife, including cutting off the legs at the knee.

I am posting this for my father in law. He is selling a 2004 wildcat 27rl fifth wheel. It is a one owner, non smoker, never had any leaks. It has one super slide. It can be towed by most half ton trucks, has a dry weight of roughly 7000 lbs. He is asking $12,500 ob. Im giving first crack here before I put it out everywhere.

I have the mark 4 with the front focal reticle. It's an amazing scope but if I was buying again I would probably go with the ior valdada. Almost the same money with a better reticle and better glass. Just my opinion.

Give Jim Hartsock a call at southwest wildlife. He does incredible work ( has done several of mine) and is very honest. He will steer you in the right direction, and if he finishes your mount, I promise that you wont be disappointed. Good luck.

Congrats. Sounded like a fun hunt.

What tag do you have? Archery bull, cow, early rifle? I took a good bull out of there last year. Scouted it hard and found a lot of decent bulls. The unit has gone down a little. I probably scouted and took pictures of 15 bulls in the 300 to 330 range. Didn't find many above that. Biggest one I found is the one I shot, 373. Not sure what you are holding out for but you should have several chances at 300-330 bulls.

$1,200 Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 8.5-25x50mm (30mm) M1RHINO replied to SirShagalott's topic in Classified Ads Great scope. I have 6.5-24 with the reticle in the front focal. Tracks perfectly. Killed my elk with it on my 300um at 864 yards. For $1200 you cant beat it.

Just for your information. The Royals International was built by cariage and was the highest end best built fifth wheel of its day. The last ones that they built were in 2010 or 2011 and went for nearly $185,000. Back in 85 they sold new for 50 to 60 grand. Not your run of the mill fifth wheel. Cariage always made great fifth wheels and this was their best. Good luck selling them.

I think the key here is getting to a distance that you are comfortable with. Some people are only comfortable to 300 yards some have put in the time and have pushed the comfort level out a lot further. My comfort level is 900 yards. That doesn't mean that if I see a bedded buck at 900 yards Im going to start shooting. If I can cut the distance, I will. I shot my elk this year at 864 yards. We had put alot of work on this particular bull and knew once he got away from us we were never going to see him again. There were too many hunters that were hunting in that area and they were going to bump him in his bed. So we made the decision to take the shot. If I hadnt prepared at these distances this bull would have definatly got away. If I had listned to some other people that said dont bother practicing at those ranges for elk because you will probably have a shot at under 200 yards I wouldnt have been able to take the shot. That being said I just shot my best buck to date at 150 yards. Its only unethical if you are shooting beyond your comfort level and capabilities.

I have him at 98 gross. Very nice buck. Its hard to score off a picture. Im going off of 15" beams and 14.5" spread.

Congrats. Im glad it all came together for you. It was pretty exciting watching you get set up and make the shot. I can't wait to see the video.

I had the early rifle tag in there this year. I scouted out more 300-340 class bulls than I have ever seen in my life. There are a ton of 300 to 340 bulls in that unit this year. It was really hard to find anything biggert though. Good luck.

It is pretty easy to get turned around in the thick forest. I remember when I was a kid my dad and I got turned around chasing deer. We had no idea we were turned around till we ended up at a bluff over looking a huge canyon. At that moment we knew exactly where we were and it was a long ways from where we were supposed to be. With about 20 minutes left of light we had about several miles to go. We starting yelling help as we walked. Since we were hours late getting to camp, my mom started driving in to look for us. She came upon a jeep leaving the area as she was going in. She asked them if she had seen a man and a youg boy. They responded by saying no but someone is yelling help back there. This is as they are leaving the area. I don't know about you but I don't care what kind of plans that I have or where I need to be, but if I hear someone yelling help in the woods Im sure in the heck not going to turn my back and go the other way. You guys did a great job making sure that boy found his way.

Thanks guys. It was a great hunt. I want to say thanks to my brother Kris, and my dad Hawkeye for all the help scouting and finding this bull for me. Also thanks to Jay, Shane, and my wife Christie for all the help. I don't remember all the measurements off hand but the 4th on the right was just shy of 24 inches, his g2 was 20, and g3 was 21. His g1 and g2 on his left were broken off and his g4 on his left had around 10 inches broken off. He had 45 to 50 inches of horn missing. We seen alot of bulls the week before season. Almost every mature bull we found was broken to some degree. I found a massive 370 class bull (if intact) with his left beam broke off after the 3rd. Had around 20 bulls in one canyon with several six bys and what looked to be the herd bull with two broken beams. His body was way bigger than the 3 320 class bulls near him. both beams were snapped off after the second points.

Im having trouble finding a good elk load for my 300 um. This will be my first time hunting elk with a rifle. I was wanting to go to a heavier bullet prefferably a 200 grain. I thought I had found it, shot a .4 inch 3 shot group at 100 yards but when I stepped back to 400 hundred it was at 9". I have a good deer load that I use, 180 grain barnes ttsx, should I just stick with 180's? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I love my el range. It has the angle componsation on it, and its not just giving you a horizontal distance its giving you a true ballistic range.

I use a leupold mark 4 with the ff. It is hard to part with close to 2k on a scope but it is worth it. The mark 4 is worth every penny, but the night force is better. I personaly wont shoot anything without a front focal.
-
Don't base everything on 100 yards either. I was shooting one hole groups with some accubonds with my 300 um at a hundred yards but was shooting 9+inch groups with it at 400 hards. I am now shooting some 185 grain bergers with 91 grains of h1000 with federal 215 primers with a 3.660 coal. at 100 yards its right at 1". At 400 yards im shooting 1.8" 3 shot groups. I shot it yesterday with a 10 to 15 mph wind, and was able to get a 4 shot 3.75" group at 400 yards. My ultra mag seems to like h1000, but my dads likes the rl25.

Save yourself some money and buy the cabelas euro binos. They are meoptas with cabelas name on them for less money. Same bino exactly. They have had some good write ups in several magazines. Good glass.
