    Unit 22 Turkey

Their are 2 grou;ps of turkeys in the area that I have either seen in person or on trail cameras. 1 has 2 hens and about 10 poults and the other group is the one from the video, 6 toms. I have a few pictures from the trail camera in the area of a few of the toms all puffed up strutting. It's interesting that I have had the trail cameras up since thge beginning of June and only seen these turkeys in the last 3 weeks. I'll be picking up a OTC turkey archery tag for sure. So I could possibly shoot a wide assortment of animals that weekend- bear, antlered deer, lion, or turkey.

    Danner Pronghorns Good or Bad?!

Had a pair of Danner Jackels that lasted 7 years with of heavy abuse. I wore the soles flat on AZ rocky terrain. My Pronghorns are on year 4 now and good as new. What can a consumer do when I start to see a split seam?

    Badger

I've called in a few in the past and trapped a brute last year in a cage trap. I skinned him out and fleshed him and threw him on a stretcher. Had a fella offer $60 but he's 32" long (nose to tip of tail) and the pelt looks fantastic. I passed. It's a keep sake. He was mad at a wet hen when I was right against the cage ready to shoot him. Hissing and shaking like he was having a fit .22 short from my Rugar six shooter right between the eyes shot out a stream of blood 2 feet. It got me on the chin and all down my shirt. His head musta been under some extreme pressure. Skinning and fleshing a badger is no east feat. Hide does not peel off like a fox coyote or bobcat. You have to cut it off inch by inch. The smell wasn't too bad but Im a trapper and after a while nothing really bothers you much.

    Kayaking the Santa Cruz...

A good friend took an aluminum down with with noting but an oar, his electronic caller, and a rifle. That river took him into some country nobody had predator hunted for quite a spell. He shot 2 bobcats and a number of foxes on that river trip. He said a few times a dead tree had fallen over parts of the river and he had to push the boat down so it would pass under the timber. Says it took waaay longer than he expected.

    Predators wanted???

It's 110 degrees outside. Any predator you harvest right now wont be worth the bullet you wasted on it. Fur primes up in December and January.
  8. There are enough variables when hunting. I want to eliminate as many of them as possible and tip the odds in my favor. Mechanicals are another variable.

    Varied animals at water

With all my trail camera pictures this year (100s of animals) I have yet to get a single bobcat or lion. It hurts my feelings. I'd get more excited about a big tom bobcat than a trophy elk.

I know 22N like the back of my hand. I have a cabin in Pine if you need any direction. I don't know elk or deer with a hoot but know a few areas I always see them.

  14. Last year a friend caught a Coatimundi in a cage trap back in the Superstitions. Warning- language http://vid402.photobucket.com/albums/pp105/Hyperwrx/Trapping%202013-2014/coat_zps97f033d5.mp4
  15. Yes you can trap the Superstition Mountains and as per G&F regulation you can harvest one per season.
  16. Defiantly not the same amount of bear traffic as last month. A lot more quad 4 wheeler traffic in area must have bothered the bears. Here is what I have. 3 short clips of bears. These Tasco cheapy trail cameras do not pick images up quick enough at night hence all the bear footage starts long after they're in the frame. 1st is small brown color, 2nd is big brown color, and last is the small black. http://vid402.photobucket.com/albums/pp105/Hyperwrx/Hunting%202014-2015/3bearsJuly_zpsa0bd913e.mp4 Here is an example of the horn growth on the whitetail deer in my area as of last week. Nothing to get excited about. Juvenile bear- big ears small head Same bear possibly.

    Yellow ferret in the woods?

Nope. No Martin in AZ nor Ermine. No Fisher either.

    Yellow ferret in the woods?

We have no indigenous Pine Martins or Ermines in AZ. We have 150 hardcore trappers in Arizona who have trapped everywhere and nobody has ever caught one nor heard of anyone catching one. More than likely it is an old color-phase black footed ferret or a domesticated common ferret someone has let loose in the wild. Trail cam pictures should be interesting.

How Does the Draw really Work.

Here is is broken down by the person who does the AZ draw. Quite interesting. Good read for beginners and veterans alike. http://www.ktar.com/335/1714457/The-Arizona-Big-Game-Draw-explained
  24. Will be held July 18 & 19th at the Gila Country Fairgrounds, near Globe, AZ. *This is where you can take the required trappers education class if you want to trap this next season. Multiple free seminars on how to skin and put up fur, AZ G&F regulations concerning trapping, and how to cage trap. I'll scan and put up the newsletter that just came out. Let me know if there are any questions.
