    Unit 10 Elk - 2012

High Point Outfitters had a good early elk season this year in Unit 10. Four of the six bulls were taken on the archery hunt and two on the rifle hunt. We started off with Blake taking his bull on the last day he could hunt, and Kevin took his bull on the last day of the 14 day season. They both passed bulls that were better than they killed hoping to kill the monster, but decided to get it done with last day bulls. Next up HPO helped Gary and Stephan of Utah harvest two great archery bulls. Well done guys! Our early rifle hunters were Dave and Jeff who harvested two good bulls. Jeff started off with his bull bugling his head off right in front of us opening morning coming into some perfect cow calls. It was too much for Jeff to stand around and watch and he decided to put the bull on the ground. The next day Dave made an awesome one shot kill at 711 yards across a canyon right before dark. We had a crazy pack out that night; luckily we had six of us to pack the big boy out. We got back to camp at midnight to a hot grilled chicken, potatoes in the half shell and cobbler with ice cream dinner. It is so nice to have mom and dad in camp cooking! It was a great way to finish our unit 10 early elk hunts off. Kevin & Blake Call John Adams High Point Outfitters

    7E Peaks Hunt 2012

High Point Outfitters enjoyed some great early rifle elk hunts in Arizona Unit 7 this year! We are very fortunate to live in Flagstaff, so this unit is right out our back door where we spend a lot of time in both 7 west and 7 east. The AG&F put three early rifle hunts in the Kachina Wilderness area found high on the Peaks in 7E this year. We have hunted on top of the Peaks for over 30 years. We know this area very well. There used to be plenty of good mule deer bucks on top of the Peaks, but they have all been replaced by bull elk. The Schultz Fire two years ago has really changed the unit. The fire has opened the area up to glassing to enable us to see the quality of the animals in the area. We were fortunate to have two Bull Elk hunts in the area. Our first hunt we guided 12 year old Mathew. It is not an easy unit to guide in since it requires plenty of boot leather to get into where the elk are. Mathew was a trooper getting into the area and then making a perfect shot on a great bull. We got it done opening evening, and then we had a fun pack out on bikes the next day. The next bull to go down was for Rob and his son Kenny. Can you believe we talked 10 year old Kenny into hiking up into the Kachina Wilderness in 7 East? Actually he had so much energy there was no way to leave him behind. What a great father –son hunt. One that they will never forget. Rob great bull, way to get it done on a great bull! As you can see from the pictures we are right at tree line in some steep rugged terrain that sure looks like Colorado. Yes this is Arizona! Come and enjoy a Guide only or fully Outfitted hunt with us next year in either 7 West or 7 East. The general Bull Elk Hunts in November are as good as any general elk hunt in the state of Arizona for 6x6 bulls. Kevin & Blake Call John Adams High Point Outfitters

    Transferring tags to family members

The short answer to your question is no they can't transfer their tags to their siblings. Below is the long answer and what the rules are currently for transferring tags to a junior hunter. Arizona Revised Statute 17-332(D) authorizes the transfer of big game tags originally issued to grandparents, parents and legal guardians to their minor grandchildren and/or children. It also authorizes big game tags to be transferred to non-profit organizations for transfer to minors with life threatening illnesses. This statute is permissive in nature rather than restrictive, and the overall intent was to further encourage and facilitate the Department's hunter recruitment and retention goals by getting children into the field. Arizona Revised Statute 17-332(D) requires that after the tag is transferred, a parent, legal guardian, or grandparent must accompany the child into the field. There is some confusion in regards to whether the statutory intent was that the parent, legal guardian, or grandparent must be the adult that accompanies the child on the hunt. Legislative staff indicates this was not the intent of the legislature and that any parent or legal guardian (or any grandparent if the tag was transferred from a grandparent) should be allowed to accompany the child on the hunt. I hope this helps. Kevin Call HIGH POINT OUTFITTERS.NET

    400" bull by a 13 year old

Trevor fulfilled many hunters dreams at the young age of just 13! Many people have told him that he will never be the same after this hunt, they are probably right. He will be a BIG BULL hunter for the rest of his life! Things fell into place after his mother drew an Arizona early rifle bull tag in unit 10, which she then transferred to Trevor, (how lucky can you get!) High Point Outfitters went to work looking for a special bull for Trevor. After passing bull after bull (all caught on film) in the 350-370 range the first day and half the right bull finally gave Trevor the chance on the second night of his hunt. Trevor had been practicing with his rifle for over a month, it was time to put all of his practice time to good use. After a couple of misses, just to get our adrenalin running good, he put the hammer down on this great 400" bull. Truly harvesting a bull of a life time. It was a great hunt, and it was all caught on film for him to be enjoyed for the rest of his life. John Adams Kevin and Blake Call High Point Outfitters

    AZ Unit 10 Antelope

After waiting 23 years for an Arizona antelope tag, I finally got tag number one in unit 10. I am not sure this was the right year to get a tag but…….. We put our scouting to good use right off the start. I killed my buck in the first 30 minutes of light. It was kind of anticlimactic after waiting for so long to get a tag and to have it done so quickly. It was great to have my son Blake with me on the hunt; he was able to capture the full hunt and kill shot on video. Blake actually made the spot on the antelope right at first light over two miles away and we went right to them. Stalked to within 150 yards and the hunt was over. We were also guiding Kent Hall. John Adams, my son Blake and I went to work on another antelope for Kent. Kent took our second book buck of the day before dark. Two book bucks on the first day. It was finally good to have a quick easy hunt for a change. Arizona Early Rifle Bull Hunt

Call Family Outfitters was very fortunate to be able to guide for Chappell Guide Service again this year in Arizona for the early rifle bull hunt. We harvested two great bulls. Opening morning Brian took this one of a kind bull with a split main beam. Next Gilbert harvested this 385 bull. We were able to get both hunts on film, so look for the full hunt on the next Extreme Bulls video.
