  1. I hunt that area every year during the jr pig hunts. Tough tough tough is about the best I can say say for deer. There are some deer and a few bucks that hang out along the highway but if I were going into 20c for the jr deer hunt I would look elsewhere or hunt the lower stuff near the santa maria river.... There just isn't much permanent water up in the hills. The best buck I have seen the last 8 years was a 145 type buck that was close to the river......

  2. I am puting in for the late archery hunt next year with six points. almost a sure draw! If you pick the right units and hunt hard and are good at sneaking around I think you can kill a great bull. While scouting for the late season rifle hunts we always see great bulls and they don't move much till they need a drink and then they come right back. The biggest problem is finding bulls that arent broke. Plus with only 25 guys out there with no teams of friends helping, the woods are pretty quiet. I think it is very doable.......

  3. I basically spend all my free time in 10 and hunt almost all the hunts there. The archery hunt is one of the best in the nation IMO. You can hunt where everyone else is and get frustrated with the teams of guys helping one tag (like unit 9) or you can get into fewer elk with no people around and have a better hunt. I had the tag in 08 and never saw another hunter and killed a 371 bull on day 5. not the biggest bull in the area I was in I will add. A buddy and myself have shed hunted it quite a bit and I cant tell you based on the horns we have picked up there are a bunch of good ones out there!

Good luck and have fun on a great hunt

  4. 4 blade wac'em or slick tricks!!! Fly with my field points to 80 yds.. They make good blood trails but all the animals I've shot with them thought they sucked..... but not for long!!!!!

I'm from the old school way of thinking and that why shoot something (mech) that could potentially fail on that hard earned shot! Keep it as simple as new age archery can get and eliminate any variables that you can! I am not dogging out mech heads as I believe there are a couple of good designs out there but I prefer to keep it simple.

When it comes to elk a heavier arrow and proper placement are more important issues to be concerned with IMO....

    Good luck on your hunt!

  5. There are goats all over the unit including in the thicker tree areas. You will burn a bunch of fuel scouting but hey it is basically a once in a lifetime tag! No quad or horses on the "BO" they dont even like to see them in camp! Good luck there are some good ones out there!

  6. what is outdoorsmans? Lark.

Correct me if I'm wrong, The Outdoorsman's is a business run by very accomplished hunters in AZ with a shop on Cave Creek. One of the first to carry high-end optics and always leading the edge of hunting in AZ. They put out the Western Hunter magazine which is a very well done hunting resource. Based on their success and history in AZ, they are understandably in the middle of this discussion.

I know nothing about their stance on this issue, FWIW.

The owner of the outdoorsmans is Floyd green. Chris Denham is the editor of western hunter and the new elkhunter mag. Both of these guys are on the board of azsfw. Now that their true colors are out I wont shop there again. What sucks is that I really respected both of them for everything they have done for hunting.... till now..... I guess greed can get its claws into anyone..... sucks

  7. GREAT JOB to all those who wrote emails and made some phone calls to stop this!!! Proud to be a hunter in AZ today!! WE have lots of issues to complain about but to see this get shot down this quick shows we can get our poop in a group and get something done!!!!!

Now maybe we should boycott certain businesses that are owned and ran by certain fellers that have now shown their true colors!!!

BYE BYE OUTDOORSMANS!!!!!! I will never buy anything from you guys again.......
