anyone else having this?
rigutierrez replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I wish i was in that situation. Didn't get a tag this year. I hit a financial slump. I have recovered from (thank god)! O well, I am young and hopefully no one shoots the buck that was waiting for me this year. -
Got myself one of those cupons. ($10 off $50), my wife got one too. I went out there friday night and picked up some new tackle for fishing. Prices were ok. Great Store to have in town.

AMEN. THANKS ERNESTO! -
AS all of you don't know, I have a birthday coming up in Nov. I am intrested in purchasing (my wife purchasing for me) a new varmit rifle. I am undecided between 17HMR and 22mag. I have seen charts on both and understand how each are on paper. I would like to know if anyone out there has seen the diference first hand? I understand 17HMR has a longer distance. But I see the tiny thing and it looks like it can't pack a punch. I will mostly hunt Jack Rabbit adn maybe a Coyote or two. I want something with a little more distance than my 22LR. But nothing big like 243. or 223. I am pretty sure this has been discussed before. I apologize if it has and I missed it. Any information is greatly Appreciated.

Carrying a handgun while archery hunting?
rigutierrez replied to Whitehntr's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
JVS, Could not have said it better. The Judge could through a really big book at me, but I'll still be alive. Don't do the archery thing myself (at lest not yet), but if and when I do. I will be packing. Reguardless of what a "book" says. The law is the law. But this willbe my game of Survivor, and in that world I AM THE LAW! -
.17 HMR VS. 22MAG
rigutierrez replied to rigutierrez's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I have done a lot of thinking and reading and so on. I think the 17HMR is going to do it. DesertBull cleared it up even better with the forum he posted. I understand that it will make a messy shot. I think I will just take a few shots with it before and make sure I don?t miss the head shot. I was looking at a Savage Model 93R17-F. I did see firstcoueswas80's comment on him having one and that it was not that good. Was it the rifle or just 17hmr that you did not like? What model was it? Ernesto, Thanks for the early B-day, really appreciate it! What would I do with a yote, NO KEVIN I will not eat them. I don?t think anything eats those things. Serious, I have seen those things on the side of the road and nothing will come close to them. I will once in a while take a shot at one or two while they are on the run. I have a Winchester 30-30 to take care of them and any other mid to lager sized varmints. Now that?s a great GUN. It really isn?t a bad idea to take a yote for practice, I guess. Now to JVS and Kevin?s comments , the first time I ate the Jack was in a ?Carne con Chile? burrito. I did not know that it was Jack rabbit. In fact I got seconds. Since then I wait till late October through new years and Knock me down a couple. firstcoueswas80, how do you cook them? Won?t mind trying something new! And to all, it does not take a redneck to eat these Jacks. The Beaner enjoys them too! Thank you Guys for the info really helped out on the Choice! -
.17 HMR VS. 22MAG
rigutierrez replied to rigutierrez's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I do plan to eat the Jacks so I wanted to stay at a really low caliber. I used to just make a clear shot to the head of the animal. I really feel bad doing that though, so I want something that will knock them off there toes with out the midevil effect. Coyotes, I dont kill much, in fact, I have only taken one yote. I don't kill what I can't use. But everyone here makes them sound like a really bad animal along with the lion. I plan to stick to 17hmr and/or 22mag so I have somthing to eat. They make one good red chili burrito Deerslam (and any one who owns one), does the 17hmr really cause that much damage as DesertBull said? JVS, Don't worry on the rain you just poured on me. I plan to stick to a lower caliber since I plan to get them Jacks! Any spare change will do and that includes your two cents. Thanks all for the info. Looks like 17HMR is gonna win this one. Unless it really causes a mess like DesertBull said. -
Grayghos , Have you ever been to the southern part of the state? Now, I have always defended the illegal aliens, mostly out of pitty. But, I know there would be no way in heck that if I was a bow hunter I would not carry a side arm. Even as a rifle man I will always have mt baby with me. People HAVE been killed out there! My side arm goes where I go anywhere in the souther AZ outdoors! 25-06, GOOD JOB ON THE FESSING UP! Take some big ones to do that you know.

Coyote attack video
rigutierrez replied to BASS's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Thats one of them Chupacabras! -
I got the new issue of Field and Stream yesturday. It had a good article on bullets and gives you some pretty good info on expansion. They tested 12 bulletes including the silver tips, hornaday sst , and accubonds. I don't know much, if anything about expansion of bullets, so the article was very helpful on helping me understand the importance of getting the right bullet for the right animal.

I have hunted 36a and b. I have also met people that either cross the Border Illegally and have heard of drug smugglers. The trash part is true, Lots of crap everywhere. As far as the area being safe. I believe you have nothing to worry about! The illegals will run away if they spot you, and the smugglers will leave you alone as long as "you" leave them alone. If you see them acknowledge them and thats it. If you want to report them..... WAIT TILL THEY LEAVE! The rule should always apply though "never hunt alone." Have fun!

Well, I never looked at the pros on the fire. (just so negative) You guys have a really good points.
-
34A was my top choice this year. I hope they start getting the upper hand on this fire soon, or i am gonna have to change my prayers to my last choices.
-
It appears to be getting very little attention, not just by the media but by BLM and Fire crews, since no homes are in the way. 25 acres and growing. http://kold.com/Global/story.asp?S=3573221 http://kold.com/Global/story.asp?S=3573221

Had bad luck. I only got to see one buck and I saw him running up a hill from where I was camping. Missed the running shot. I will be out there tomorrow for a better chance.
-
I was just wondering if anyone had any luck in 34a. I have a tag for next weekend and just wondering if any one got a buck.
-
By the way has anyone hunted the southern part if 34A. I have never been down there. My uncle was around the area of Rio Rico and saw a couple of bucks. he stated they were no spikes. about 3 buck average size.
-
Thanks for the info! I did not go up towards the north. I instead headed south almost towards the enterance of the road by some bike path. I followed some does around last Monday and they ended up crossing the road towards a water hole south of the observetory road. I stayed up on the hills to see if any bucks would show up with the does but had no luck.

If someone reads this forum consider it closed. I did not mean to get info off of any one just wanted to hear a story or two from this area. I was there three years ago and have done some scouting there this year. I dont want to seem like a shark trying to steal your spots. like i said i apologize for my wrong choice of words. wanted to hear stories from the first hunt to get my hopes up for next weekend.
-
Has anyone scouted 34A. Havent had a chance to go out there but was there two years ago! Any hot spots? Din't have much luck that year. Mostly hunt 36A.
-
By The way guys ive done some scouting by elephant head and up the forset road taking you up to the kmsb anttenas. I was there about three years ago with a coues tag and my cousin got a nice buck off a road that stated 4x4 only just west of the kmsb road, south off the road that takes you up to the observetory. The road take you towards Patagonia. Just want to hear any stories no need to tell your hot spot or anything just wanna get my hopes up.
-
Also try warsaw cayon on ruby rd. (south) a hunt buddy got his first buck there last year on openning day.
-
If any one is going 36B , Try just west of the California Gulch. Had one nice buck there last year but got away (hunting buddy went trigger happy). A lot of nice does in the area but with Mr. Trigger happy- he probably scared everything in sight.

Hey great way to practice. Try going for Two liter bottles, I find them to be more difficult. The slim size of the bottle at long ranges makes it seem harder (like hitting a golf ball with a bat) Once you got that down the gallon will be like hitting a beach ball.
