Help from gun guys on prices

Thanks for the input I was pretty sure the Mini 14 was a good deal.
  11. Well I don't normally post in this section of the forum and haven't posted in a long time but I happened into a guy who is selling some guns and wasn't sure about how good the prices are. All of them are in really good shape. Not sure about the quality of the scopes because I haven't seen them. So figuring on guns alone. I was wondering if someone could give me some direction weather they are a good buy. It's a long haul to where I have to go and no banks so I'd have to bring cash want to make sure I bring enough and the prices are fare....any help would be great thanks Weatherby Vanguard VGx 270 Win cal w/scope and sling -$450 Winchester 70 243 cal. w/scope and sling - $425 Ruger Mini-14 223 cal - $ 450 Remington 788 308 cal. w/ scope and sling -$350 Thompson Center TC-14 30-30 cal. w/ scope -$325

My wife finally drew her first archery elk tag 5BN

Great Unit I drew it last year..scout early and I mean Early in the morning start at about 4am a few weeks before if they are answering you'll get a better feel for where they are. Don't be afraid of Pinions I chased a very big 6x7 last year four days in a row but had other hunters in the area so he was very hard to get close to. Saw three huge bulls and blew a shot on a nice 6x6 easily above 350. I walked away with some great memories but no Elk meat. Personally if I get to do it again and a smaller Bull came in and gave me a shot...I'd take it. Archery is Archery and I'm sure some people who are extremely awesome at Elk hunting with a Bow have the chance to pass..right place right time. But every day could be different calls were spotty and hunters started running and gunning areas and pushed Elk all over the place and made them skittish. Good luck to your wife and have a blast. small set I found in 5bn this weekend

    5bn question

Is anyone else in 5bn experiencing a lack of Rut, Bugles, Fighting and Bulls still hanging out together? This last weekend we got close but they weren't really interested in calls at all. Just wondering if I'm the only one. I've heard stories from units surrounding and they are like Bulls are bugling all morning till 10am and coming in great...any feed back would be great. I've got bulls in my area they are just really not rutting.

thoughts on new coconino road rules

I was scouting the southern part of 5bn and half mile into the woods where there are no FS roads a fresh quad track.....on the way back out I doubled back and bear track on the quad track.....I'm sure you will have people driving Quads everywhere including Hunters who Don't care...I also saw a freshly killed small cow Elk that had been skinned????? Sup with that

    5B North late bull hunt

I have the early Sept Rut Hunt in that area...with road restrictions for recovery I might need a bigger back pack...good excuse to get one. Good luck with your Late hunt. I agree with if you see a bull shoot it I was on a late hunt with a friend last year saw a few small bulls in a herd and didn't bother with them....ended up eating his tag soup with some shoulda woulda coulda on top. But it was still fun but you can't eat fun:-)

    Hunting mistakes and misses

November 15th 2008 I was chasing a nice buck off its scrape and found its escape route later the follow day I set up a blind right below where I jumped him over looking that escape route which was being used enough to make me happy with the blind location. November 17th we put a hunt together with some of the boys and my dad. We jump a buck down low on that ridge..this leads me to my first mistake. Dad goes where do you want to go in I say I'll take the deer you head up to my stand..about 40 min later Bang dead deer.. I love my dad but could have been me..lol November 11th 2011 went to the same ridge jumped one big deer and three others chased em around a bit but couldn't close any ground on them. Felt good to chase some deer the first day out. Skipped the next day to give em a break and get comfortable again they had been bedding in that area a ton with lots of sign tracks. Dad asks me to put together a plan that night and being that I had a little extra to drink I told him to come up with the plan. Guess who got the blind and who got the walkn'stalk needless to say repeat 2008 except this time I actually got to hunt for an hour before I heard the Bang. Right in the same spot he shot the other buck in my blind... hard to chalk it up to a mistake but it was a miss on my part next time I Might just make it to my blind before there's a gut pile next to it.:-)

    Thanks ALOT! You JACKWAGONS!

F&S Article....."Color" is how we perceive light of various wavelengths and frequencies, making up the visible spectrum, what we see in a rainbow. On one end of the spectrum is red, with the longest wavelengths apparent to the human eye; at the other end is violet, with the shortest. However, other light wavelengths exist. Just as human ears can't hear some sounds, human eyes can't see some light. These invisible wavelengths include ultraviolet (beyond violet) and infrared (below red). Deer sense colors toward the violet end of the spectrum, so they can see blues and probably even ultraviolet (UV) light. Deer show a slight sensitivity to yellow, but tests indicate that green, orange, and red appear to them as shades of gray. My Dad use to tell me if you dress like a deer (brown) or a bear (black) prepare to be looked at with a scope or even shot towards or at...I cammo up out in AZ then use orange tape on my pack and my chest and back area attached tightly so they don't blow in the breeze but enough so Hunters see me. This could save my life and save someone from making an error in judgement. I've also heard on this forum that hunting far from roads its a good idea and I totally agree if you can see a road that is near or where you are glassing or hunting prepare for company.
