BBC and John Deer Green Explanation

I thought I would clarify what BBC and John Deer Green means for beginners novices and people interested in fishing mainly Pan fish lures explanations. When I first started out fishing and even hunting the terminology boggled my mind and Sometimes intimidated me as well. So rather than high jack a thread from LeRoys post I thought pictures as well as explanations would help because I know once Crappie bite is in full swing these BBC and john deer goodies will dry up at your favorite bait shop .So here is Most Crappie fisherman's favorite go to bait simply because it is deadly on Crappie once the bite is on. BBC stands for Black N'Blue/Chartreuse colored grub and John Deere Green color grub they are the the 2 inch size made by Kalin's or 2"triple threat grub as it is called on the package the first picture is what they will look like on the shelf in the stores the right one is BBC and Left one John Deere Green they come in a 10 pack I believe and 50 pack and 100 pack I always try to get the biggest pack I can find they are hard to come by later on in the season and you will lose allot in the sticks and heavy cover some times when you fish .There are nock offs that look just like these grubs as well I belive bass pro has some and a few other companys and they all seem to work (plus there worth a kings Ransom when you are the only one on the lake with these lures and other fisher men have ran out and are asking you if you will sell some to them LOL JK!:0) The second pictures is of how the lure should look like once rigged on your jig head the top jig has a BBC on a 1/16 oz jig head Notice how the tail is facing down this gives the bait the best action and is the right way to have this bait rigged the second jig head is called a roadrunner jig head with a john Deere green grub the road runner has a tiny spinner blade that creates allot of flash in the water and is great for trolling (dragging your bait in the water as your boat moves slowly) you can also add a minnow to this set up for more juicy temptation. The next pictures are of jig heads the plain jig head the dart jig head and the road runner jig head I like to use a 1/16 size in all of these styles if the conditions are calm and the crappie bite is non stop it drops at a great steady rate in the water and I work it back to me a slow as i can possibly stand it thats key I use heaver jig heads like 1/8 oz if it is windy day or I am trolling my bait and need the bait to go deep. The dart head I like as well because it has an erratic movement in the water and some times triggers fish to bite . I also use 4 pound test line to fish for crappie that seems to work best for me !the great thing about fishing is you can experiment with different lures line, poles, speed, retrieve, etc and find out what works for you.But when you see reports of BBC and john Deere there is no doubt this bait works The other thing I would suggest is go to the seminars that the pros put on like Leroy its great information and and rewarding when you can put lots fish in the boat! experts Feel free to add to this post if you have more to add or I need to be corrected

BBC and John Deer Green Explanation

Hey TJ great to finally meet ya the the other Day! If I am going to Roosevelt I always try to get my minnows as close to the lake as possible to cut down on the mortality rate so I always call kilmers bait shop in globe there on the way to the lake on the salt end there number is 928-425-0700 they usually have specials too if you buy so many dozens etc so I get like 3 or more buddies to go in on em and divvy em up once we get there if I am going to San Carlos I hate having to go out of my way so I will pick them up at liars corner in east Mesa and just make sure I ice my minnows down often till I get to the lake liars corners number is 480-986-2515 I always keep those bait shops on my speed Dali on my cell plus there a great source for a quick report before I head out to a specific lake it's amazing how fast work travels

    bass fishing techniques?

Hey there copenhagenGDIB Bass fishing is definatly different mostly because you have to constantly be doing something to make your lure work and you can spend a life time learing all the new trends that are out there .But once you get a Bass to nail what you have on the end of your line for me anyways it was a game changer I was instantly hooked.Bass for the most part have the attitude I am the badest fish in this lake and will try there hardest to prove that to you time and time again they hate any thing that is abnormal and will smash eractic or wierd looking things coming at them disturbing there nests ect, just to prove there the boss. Many times the bait I am throwing at them are bigger than they are it cracks me up how big there ego is .And right now is a perfect time to learn how to catch Bass its like the rutting seasons for coues there getting there nest ready and guard them with there life once there eggs in there .Sight fishing will teach you what baits work and what ones won't beuase you can see how the Bass is going to react to your bait. Soft plastics are very effective and loseing them while you are learning wont break the bank.Alot of lures out there I think catch the buyers eye and not the fish so check forums in a local area you intend to fish and ask questions from other fishermen there before you try and buy the whole tackle shop remember learning is half the fun and there are no dumb questions to ask!once you land a lunker its hard to stop fishing for those bucket mouths!

    Roosevelt Crappie report 3-6-11

Hi folks just got back from fishing Roosevelt all day. I went there with my soul purpose of catching Crappie but as it turns out at least on the salt end the lake is not on fire. I wouldn't load the boat pack your gear and buy every minnow in town just yet you will be disappointed.I tried to target with different lures, patterns, minnows etc but every one I talked to even people that had been there days before have not landed any or if they did it was 1 to 2 crappie for a whole days worth of fishing.I fished the armada crowd in the morning with at least 20 boats scattered trying to find any glimmer of those paper mouths will no avail. Then started to check my old honey holes around the Salt end all the way back to Windy hill. What ended up happening all day long was I was putting bass in the boat I mean lots of bass on crappie jigs they ran in the super dink size to about 3+ pounds My fishing buddy Fester and I stopped counting Bass after about 30 or so. I must have kissed and put back 50 to 60 bass man my lips are chapped LOL!Some are defiantly starting to stage for the spawn many with bright red tails any where from 4 to 20 feet. As soon as I got them in the boat I gently got them back in to the water to get the Bass back to there reproduction season. I had a good time catching bass on ultralight poles with 4 pound test line it did make some of my landings interesting and wouldn't you know it it was john Deere green 2" grubs on road runners that produced the most bass. so if you are not a Bass fan and are holding out for that one day to call in sick to load up on Crappie I would wait till there are lots of solid reports but if you are happy with bass action any time now on Roosevelt should be good . on a side note if you are a bow fishermen and target carp there every where on the coves leading up to windy hill just look for the lips on the surface I will be taking my kids on our spring break Roosevelt camping trip next week and will be able to give a better crappie report as I will have the entire week to fish My kids and now they can't wait :0 Here are some examples of the bass I was pulling out all day today

    Last Suday at Saguaro Lake

I finally got a chance to get out on the boat!My kids had been after me for weeks to go fishing .I have been prepping my boat for awhile now in Lew of the up coming crappie bite and my kids have helped in the process new plugs, new fuel filter ,gas line ,oil change waxing ,new transducer odds and ends .I had been promising them a quick trip to test out the boat but between life hunting trips and prior engagements it has been hard to get time to go out so Sunday was the big day no matter what I told them we would get to wet our lines. Little did we know that wasn't all that got wet on Sunday at Saguaro Lake. We woke up got our gear in the Xterra hitched the boat and stopped at QT for gas and Tonto pass.as soon as we got to the store it started raining slowly then came more rain then hail and then snow in a matter of about 15 minutes .My wife looked at me and I shrugged my shoulders and asked the kids if they still wanted to go fishing my oldest son looked over to wards Saguaro and said over there its Sunny lets go Dad my youngest chimed in and said ya Dad. I cracked up and said cool my die hards kids are up for it so through the sleet at this point we drove till we got to the lake everything cleared up except for the wind .We launched our boat around 10:30AM and cranked up the motor after a bit she kicked in and we waited for my Wife to park and get in .The lake was some what calm maybe 3 other boats on the lake at this time once we got the Nitro burning around the main part of the lake for awhile getting the old gas out. We fished the marina butcher Jones and other choice coves finally all the way back to the Canyon Dam with nothing to show but cold hands and crab grass. This was our pattern the whole time we were out all the fish on the finders were at least 30 plus feet that front really pushed them deep.Did spooning deep cranks ,drop shot slow Rollin spinners and rattle traps but just hauled water all day my kids used worms trying to get some gills to bite but nothing turned up talked to at least 6 other boats and it was the same goose egg for every one .It was nice to finally get out on the water and spend some time with my die hards and wife there was awesome scenery from mountains .The goods news is the boat is running like a top and it was a great test plus The back drops of mountains that had got snow cover still a little Chile but a great day to enjoy my kids my wife Gods creations and of course a fine cigar Here are some pics of the moutains and my Die hards fisher men on Saguaro

    Last Suday at Saguaro Lake

Did you try using a Senko rigged whacky style at about 30-40 feet? I've had some good days when the bass were deep using this set up. Takes a while for the big worm to get down there, but the bass will hit 'em. Guy from lake Powell turned me on to this. Share the wealth I say. Don Martin Hi Don yes I did use my lovely Senkos in multiple colors too my older kid had senko rigged weightless as well for a while its one of my favorite ways to fish soft plastics forgot to add that it was more of a test to see if my boat was ready for those Crappie .

    Your Glassing setup!

Hi glassers I was wondering what peoples ideal set up for glassing is.What has made you successful finding game in the field or what you would think your ideal setup would be such as seating ,backpacks, brush or cleaners ,tripod, bino pouch ,head gear ,pan or ball heads ,bino holders, spotters and diascoping gear, video equipment and of course the glass it self .I know every one says buy what you can afford but even if money was no object to me there is definite over kill on big eye binoculars or even dual spotters mounted Its like people will be looking through hovel telescopes pretty soon! And I can't imaging having a ton of glass and equipment in my pack spending all that money worrying about dinging that glass and going after the game then having to pack my game and everything else back out. What I am trying to solve is what is the best set up to use in the field such as weight size and comfort.I have lately got the bug to look at the whole gamit of glassing and there are thousands of choices but I defiantly would love to find the best of both worlds meaning the best set up to consistently get the job done year after year .Pics of other peoples setup would be cool too just to be able to see what might Work for everyone else as well! my current set up is a thermarest self inflating seat this thing literally folds up in the palm of my hand badlands bino pouch I love it with the built in bow holder and magnets (no noise) holds my cap light ,bino brush, built in cleaning cloth and cleaning wipes my backpack is a black ridge pack witch holds my spotting scope and tripod and other gear pretty easy tripod is a vortex highlands tripod with the outdoors man bino holder ( just got this tripod so am on the fence about this till I get to glass up some pigs this weekend)It has a ball head and is very compact spotting scope is a Nikon 20x60x80 really clear but heat rays are annoying and binos are Nikon monarch atb 10x42 out fitted with outdoors man stud and bino shields Nikon 10 gig digital camera & jvc evro palm camcorder just got it for Christmas but has a surprising clear zoom hunting cap and bandanna over my head on really sunny days (And lord willing by next coues deer season a pair of vortex 15's kaibabs to go in my pack instead of the spotter)

    Need Boiling Pot

I agree with hunter dude a hardware store or feed and tack store will have a wash tub that work great for boiling big skulls like elk and cows heads or you might get lucky and find one at a yard sale but wouldn't waste time trying to find a pot to boil one in wash tubs work much better

  24. I Love it can't say enough about it .It's propane so it is easy to operate easy set up and clean up I opted for the smaller one and it was the best choice for me as it will handle all my smoking needs like fish ,turkey beef and of course all the wild game I have the privilege of taking. plus I'm a huge Browning fan
