    Rages

Rage broadheads are good and they have generally a great reputation. I have found that sometimes the blades do not stay in place. +1 I would not shoot through mesh with them. I like grim reaper mechanicals a lot and if you are going to shoot through mesh with them open the blades before hand and they fly better. The past few years I have been shooting Shwacker broadheads which used to be Sonorans. Anyway they are awesome. Shwackers fly better than any mechanical out there period. They are not loud in flight either. ++++++++1 on Shwackers all the way.

    Carp Deer?

Sorry OZ didn't mean to make you so upset. Maybe I put in in the bowhunting section because a significant amount of whitetails are shot from a treestand or blind. I was addressing the when people calling mule deer carp deer, but also using bait to kill whitetails and how they too could also be called carp deer in my opinion. I partake in both but I was just seeing some opinions

    Carp Deer?

Ok sorry but I have to start this up. I have been hearing a lot of talk about carp deer being mule deer. I love both species but I don't understand why mule deer are being put down. When I think of the word carp I think of something easy to catch. All you do is throw some bait out and keep reeling em in. Speaking of bait I have caught many carp using bait especially corn and dough with ground corn in it. hmmm..... Also I associate carp with water obviously. Also to my knowledge, most carp species don't migrate very far at all during the spawn so you can usually find them in the same place on numerous occations. So you see where im going with this? If one of these species is gonna be called carp deer , which I refuse to call either, it would in fact be the whitetail. I don't know about you guys but I think there are ten times as many coues deer shot over corn or bait than mule deer each year. All you got to do is throw corn out near the oaks and throw a camera up and a blind grab your bow, and like clockwork they will show up, some even give or take 10 min. If you guys have muleys coming in like crazy to bait I guess I will have to buy some from ya. Same goes with water. Whitetails for some reason water in my opinion far much more than mule deer do. Whitetails are much more predictable as well as always coming back to the same spot and not traveling far. I have seen mule deer bucks over 8 miles from where I first saw them. I don't know maybe everyone is refering to the taste. I have had great tasting deer from both species as well as bad. Sorry guys had to get this started. Thats just my two cents I hunt both species and love both but if any deer is a carp deer its a whitetail. Sorry admin.

    Carp Deer?

Great feedback and opinions guys thanks. Yeah it just seems like everyone and their brother throws corn and feed out every summer then come August they slay giant coues bucks because they get them on a patern. I am talking straight archery here not rifle. Yes coues are harder to glass. In the rut, spot and stalk I personally think mule deer are more of a challenge. I guess I need to pick out a barrel cactus and wait for a mule deer to come and get water from it. Yeah from what I hear if your near oaks try corn. I think mule deer like salt or mineral licks more than coues because they have different nutritional requirements because of anatomy reasons. Yeah I don't know what to tell you about a buck that you have been after for multiple years, do you have multiple pics during a long time period? Or just a few sightings? Great coments Jumbo thanks.

    2010 Buck

This year has been a great year ! All tags are full and now its just a waiting game until Jan. I got this buck on the 5th day of the hunt which was Tuesday Oct. 26th. I named a buck last year Joker because of his abnormalities in his left antler. His left side was a single beam that traveled town towards his nose 3 to 4 inches and then curled upward with about 2 or 3 inches of verticle curl. His right side was about a 7 inch main beam that had a baby 2 inch fork. One question is could he have grown this much in one year? I am more than grateful that I was able to harvest such a nice buck. Here is the big question how should I measure the left antler? Which point would be considered the main beam? Give me your input as far as measurements. G 2's? G 3's? Which is which? Thanks a lot.

    2010 Buck

Thanks for the thoughts Amanda. About his age I would personally guess him at maybe 4 years old +/- . Has all of his teeth and are not worn at all. Still sharp. I think this would have been his first year of maturity. He did have a heck of a lot of fat on him though. I was very surprised. Maybe it was because I just shot an antelope in sept. and he was like a skeleton. Im still in shock and super pumped about how unique he is. . All I have to do for the whitetail now is bleach and whiten the skull. Lookin good though. Thanks ALL
