    Any luck?

Well...it was tough to say the least. I saw 4 deer in 2 full days of glassing. I think it was the same doe and fawn both days since I saw them the 2nd morning about 500 yds from where I saw them the 1st day. I did see about what seemed like 400 people. We had hunters walk down the bottom of the canyon the first morning, I don't have any hard feelings, but it left a pit in my stomach. There was one spot where I could count 5 camps from one spot. This weekend will be a new area (actually an old area) that isn't as accessible. Lots of pressure + warm temps + wind on Saturday = a tough hunt. I thought this was supposed to be an El Nino year, where's the rain!!! At least that will cool things off.

    Hunt Sucess

Congrats! Looks like possibly 30B, Mule Mtns, maybe...just a guess since you said it was an undesirable unit.

Coues with a 7mm Rem Mag

I shoot 139gr. Hornadys out of my 7mm WSM. I shoot my last coues with the interlock and my antelope this year with an interbond. My backup gun is also a .243 as well.
  4. Congrats, looks like a pretty speed goat. Its bigger than the one I got there this year and bigger than anything we saw. But they are fun and they taste good.

    Little Help

Let me begin by letting you know that I'm not e-scouting...I've done my homework, but things have come up that have put a huge wrench in my plans. The first one is the possiblity of a new job (I've been at the old one for 10 years, so the change is kinda of important for the family), and the second one is the health of my dad. Last year he had a heart attack, and still went hunting with us, and know this year he has had some breathing problems and has to have surgery soon after our hunt, so his health isn't so good. However, he is my hunting partner and he still wants to go so I'm not going to leave him at home. So here is my question...I have a 32 november tag and have hunted the east side of the unit and know it well. However, the west side is much closer to home and when I went to scout it I only found one road that I could get in on (Copper Creek Rd.). Is this my only option on the west side of the unit (other than Mercer's Ranch) or is there somewhere I can go take a look on afternoon for example. I would be more than willing to share info for other units. I'm not doing this for myself, its for my dad who hasn't taken a coues yet and I'm not really sure how many more seasons he still has left. Thanks Matt/Dodger2

    Slopes?

"My advice is look where the deer are. Shady when hot, or calm when windy areas." Seeing how I have only taken 3 coues deer in my life, I would not say I'm an expert, but I'll add what I can. My first coues was taken on a windy day by glassing cuts that were out of the wind. He was laying down on a west facing slope in the afternoon. The other two were taken on north facing slopes in the afternoon coming out of the shade late in the afternoon. I like to glass by starting at the tops of ridges in the morning and working my way down the hill as I go. I have found that they seem to travel up hill in the morning (where I hunt anyway) and then vice versa in the afternoon. However, in 33, which is where I do my Dec./Jan. archery hunting, they seem to move in the opposite direction where I hunt.
  7. "When a new fence goes up next to a highway, the pronghorn won't jump over, Miller said." So why do the antelope in Wyoming jump fences? I saw this happen on my antelope hunt in Wyoming last month. Must be a different gene pool, or maybe a new sub-species...It sounds to me like some facts are missing or being misrepresented here.

    Unit 32 Help

How can I put this...I'm not scouting via the internet here, but I need some help. I've hunted the east side of unit 32 (Klondyke area) and I'm trying to find a spot on the west side. I went out this weekend trying to get into YLE canyon. However, the road that I tried to take had a locked gate with a sign in box on the other side. Does anybody know how to get into YLE canyon? I was able to find another spot and did glass up a small 3 pt at 10:00am (I spent most of the morning just driving) so I have a spot, but there is a lot of traffic (jeeps, atvs, etc.). Thanks Matt
  9. Yep, that is too bad about Rucker Lake. My family has a cabin in West Turkey Creek and my grandfather actually worked on the dam at Rucker. I've spent some days at that lake. I was down there 2 weeks ago and it is very green down there.

    Fletchings

I'll second the Arizona EZ fletch. I bought one since they are "cheap" if I didn't like fletching my own. I practiced on about 1/2 dozen of some old arrows that I don't shoot anymore. I fletched these in about an hour and half. I probably shot enough to know the fletching isn't coming off and I've banged a few together.

    Good luck gentlemen!!

Deerslam, I have the same problem, the wife just doesn't understand...
  17. Elkhunter...I can relate, I've had 4 surgeries on my left knee. I tore my ACL twice. I lost a bunch of weight, but then since I couldn't move I put it back on and then some. I'm currently running 10-12 miles a week and lifting 3 days a week. I'm increasing it to next week to 12-15 miles a week and lifting 4 days a week. I'm not doing it for hunting, I recently applied for the police department, but I figure it will help me out in the hills.

    Family Strengths

Well, took the test today to possibly begin a new career. I've had the same job the last 10 years, its a little scary thinking about going into something completely different. Wish me luck!

    Unit 6A West washed away!!

Those sound like the rains we had down here in Tucson last weekend. Lots of flooding, etc. but you can already see things greening up. I hope the rain continues for everyone, just not so much at one time.
  21. I got my 32 Nov. coues tag, no elk, but at least my deer tag
  22. Great pictures! I think the last picture is that of a snow/rain gauge. There is one of those things next to the spot that we camp at.

    My new arrows

I finally finished my new dozen arrows. Now I just need some of this water to recede so I can get out and try them out. All my target spots are underwater, which I guess is good in a way.
