Wish I could make it. I'd really like to meet more CWT members. Unfortunately I'll be stuck wearing a bridesmaid's dress that day.

that's good to hear the wait time has lessened a lot! -
You bowhunters getting antsy yet???
naturegirl replied to mattys281's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I'm more antsy than ever. I've been forced to be in a last-minute wedding this weekend so good luck to all that are hunting opening weekend The groom made the mistake of asking me if I'd rather be hunting or at their wedding. My answer was hunting (oops). -

Ideas on conserving our game.
naturegirl replied to coues32's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Harvest report mandatory. Everything is a guess without it. I was impressed with the reporting system for many species when I hunted in Illinois. Much more detailed than what we have here and it's some valuable information they are receiving back from their hunters. -

Water tank questions/ Why all the metal structure in the tank?
naturegirl replied to Elkaddict's topic in The Campfire
It's to keep the animals away from the floats that regulate the water level. I've never seen it done that way. They got creative, but I've seen it done for bears in a little different fashion. -
Yesterday I was on a solo kayak trip quite a ways back when I hear children's voices and they were happy loud little voices. I'm trying to figure out how all these kids are getting closer to me in a kayak only accessible area when I see this little girl with blonde pigtails about 3 years old. She has her hands stretched out holding the sides of her dad's double kayak with a smile literally from ear to ear. With them are two canoes with dads oaring their little ones and some little ones trying to help their dads oar. All were happy campers, although the dads apologized for breaking the silence..lol There are so many ways to exercise outdoors (especially with our gorgeous weather right now) and children can often be included too! My daughter isn't always thrilled to go with me, but once she's there it's always a good time and I'm teaching her about healthy living. This was a trip she didn't want to go on, but she literally ended up thanking me for it at the end of the day.

Wow! I would NOT be happy if I was his neighbor. He's an idiot plain and simple.

Here's what I'm learning and this is all coming from a person who has never taken a big buck. People like salt licks, use game cameras, and sit over the licks. This takes years to establish a good salt lick (used to be corn before that was made illegal, although people still use it). I've also been told by hunters that they use hay (still using it). I've never really understood it, but once I put camo on or tell people I hunt, the stories just flow from their mouths about the good and not so good things they do while hunting. There are some things people do to get big bucks that they will never share here online.

190" coues killed in southern AZ?!?!?
naturegirl replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
How many of you would take your mount off the wall when it was a 190ish dream deer and lay the mount in the dirt to take a photo? That just makes no sense to me why someone would do that. -
So funny...she was telling you to hurry up and get out of the way...lol She is coming into her own quite nicely Beautiful buck and it was very nice you gave her your tag!

Anybody get out yet??
naturegirl replied to KidBowHunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Yep usually it's locals this time of the year. It takes awhile to get down here. The teals usually are one of the first to make it if I remember correctly, but it's been awhile. My son has been out and he confirmed locals. -
I don't think I would've even noticed it. Maybe that's why I've never seen any...lol

A buddy of mine uses them in the desert and swears by them. I've worn my carhartt jackets a time or two hunting when it was cold and on horses no trees stick to the jackets so I'm assuming it's the same with the pants. Not the quietest until broke in if you are an archery hunter.

Hope you have a great day and thank you for sharing all the beautiful photos with us!

I've been on two late bull hunts in 5 years and it snowed hard both times. I recommend buying rain gear, gaiters, warm boots, and warm gloves x2 of all.

My birthday is tomorrow and I’ve had plans for weeks to go out with friends to a bar for my birthday. As the time got closer and I’ve been reading about all the hunting going on, I just had an itch that needed scratched. I cancel the plans, pack the truck, and my daughter & I are going camping. I bring along the shotgun and my 270 with the intent on practicing calling for coyotes and/or quail hunting. It’s been a little while since I’ve hunted with my daughter and it took about three minutes for me to realize hunting was out of the equation, but I carried my shotgun just in case we flushed a covey. Instead my little budding photographer carried her camera around taking pictures of everything. Kinda made me realize what it’s like for people who are with me when I’m in a photo taking frenzy… I completely let go of any notion of truly hunting and instead started showing her around. The pictures below are her learning about javi sign, tracks, and their bed plus the little frog she found. My cook made us some yummy blackened dirt covered hot dogs for dinner. I did try calling for coyotes throughout the afternoon and evening, but my best efforts at calling (which are a beginner’s attempt at the very best) were quickly followed up by my daughter tooting her call of choice and so I just let her toot away because she was having a blast. The next morning right when we were getting ready to head out I spotted a coyote. I grabbed my 270, loaded, and saw the coyote was heading to the left of me. She kept going in and out of sight, but I knew the direction she was heading so I kept watching. Finally, she stopped completely broadside but I couldn’t find her in my scope. She’s takes off in the same direction, but stops again behind a bush. I see a large saguaro to the right of the coyote and find it in my scope. She turns around and steps out just enough. I find the coyote in my scope, guess it’s about 100 yards, and squeeze the trigger. I see her flip over and start kicking. I try to find her again in my scope but she is now completely behind the bush and I can’t find her. I had to move a little and look through the bush to see that she was down. The coyote was killed with the gun my dad gave me. It’s my second shot on an animal with that gun and my second dead animal. It’s a great gun. Might be a little much for the coyote, but she didn’t go anywhere and it left a nice big hole in her side. I’m happy my daughter was with me. She may never be a hunter, but I want her to know that hunting is a natural part of life. I loaded up the coyote and brought her home. I got out my knives I bought for the August deer hunt and start cutting. This really is a very big challenge for me, but I made myself do it. Then I brought my daughter out who was a bit hesitant and showed her the inner workings of the coyote. This was my hands on lesson that I needed. I was almost home before I realized I made the shot without a rest so I patted myself on the back for that. Secondly, I felt a very gratifying feeling for taking down a predator. I am an avid hunter of big game, but predator hunting is something that never interested me until I saw trail cam footage of a big buck being taken down by a pack of coyotes. It sickened me and I said right then “If I ever get the opportunity to shoot a coyote from now I will.” Well, one down and my plan stays the same.

That's funny. Maybe coyotes can't see red or orange because I had to stalk her a little first and she never saw me. The boots keep out cactus! My little one switched to boots on day #2, but she had to learn that lesson herself.
