Loop hole in dead animal removal for elk in coconino forest???
naturegirl replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Elk Hunting
take me to court then. I will use aid if needed to retrieve an elk in 6a. -
my husband picked one up last year and the dog thought it had went to heaven sitting in our rhino having a couple snacks & water. it had a phone # on it and when dog was returned he said it looked like we gave him a death sentence :0( I know they are hunting dogs with jobs but.....

Loop hole in dead animal removal for elk in coconino forest???
naturegirl replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Elk Hunting
for 6A you can use a vehicle to retrieve ELK ONLY under new rules. Gotta pack out deer, bear, etc. -
we came across 2 different people scouting in the same areas we've been scouting for months. I'd love to be able to say they are "my spots," but they are not. So we just told the people we may see them during the hunt because we will probably be hunting the area at some point. I know it's public land and we all share it. Just because my camera was there first doesn't mean it's my spot.

I've been out the last few months. I have heard a very occasional bugle this week. did see 2 herds of cows that had good shooter bulls with them. still seeing lots of bachelor herds though. its not happening much yet in 6a but will be soon :0) Have seen way more people scouting the last week for sure.

we've been scouting for months. cattle have been moved into a couple of our honey holes the last month or so. talk about a shut down. we r getting very little on camera and seeing very little while out scouting in these particular areas. originally I thought the elk/deer would stay in the area but just move out of the cattles general vicinity but now I'm wondering if they prefer to pack up and leave the area altogether. just curious what others experiences are with this. great time out in the woods though. we carried our bows with judos and packs. we practiced guessing yardages and taking shots from different positions. I'm pretty good with my shooting. I'm thinking I just need to make sure plan B, C, & D are in order regarding the elk.

Well as many days as I spend in the field each year you would think I've seen a bear before in person, but I hadn't up until a couple days ago. We were out scouting and my husband saw this guy (I think I have no clue??) on the other side of a clearing. I was trying to plan a route to get a closer look at him and next thing we knew the bear was crossing the road about 50 yards from us. The wind was right and he had no idea we were there. We had the camera and video camera with us and got some footage, although I was shaking so bad I doubt the video is going to be very good...lol. Yes, we would have had an archery shot if this was next week, but as you know so well the season is not open. I always said I wanted to see one "over there" where I can watch it without it knowing I'm there and that is exactly what we got. We took our photos, backed out, and let him continue eating. It was absolutely the coolest thing ever! Here's a couple photos. If you could, please let me know your thoughts on sex or age. If you remember my past post about bears, I had my side arm & bear spray. Husband had a side arm and rifle with him (been seeing lots of predators lately. Even saw my 1st mountain lion in person a week ago), but we didn't need any of it :0) It was a great encounter.

tons of water in 6a. so much green feed everywhere. I love the water as far as making your walking so much quieter. I don't usually sit water but if I did I'd definitely be working on plan B

I've been researching this for hours here & elsewhere. I just can't seem to find anything with great reviews for what I need or maybe they don't make it? I need rain gear top & bottom that is lightweight, packs easily, I won't sweat horribly in in warm weather, has button or zip pant legs, be able to purchase pieces separately, quiet material that won't tear as I'm in desert and heavy brush a lot, and most importantly that doesn't leak. my old set is OK from bass pro but in a downpour the cuffs leak but yes it was pouring a lot when that happens. it also gets hot inside. I do not need the rain gear for warmth. I bought a little more expensive set from bass and tried it out recently and it was like wearing plastic. I'm wanting to spend under $150. any suggestions? thx

good point about animals color range. kuiu camo definitely has a good pattern

I was able to use my new rain gear in complete downpours this past weekend and it was wonderful and i was bone dry. if u get warm , there are zippers on the outside of each leg and also armpits. I'm not overly fond of the camo color up north here but it should be fine. we took pics of how it blended and it really wasn't too great. it should be good down south. I probably should've gotten the olive. I'm still thrilled with how its working out so far.

I was gonna ask about protecting velvet too.

bring a lot of patience because that is what is needed. I brought a book when i sat a blind but be careful with that cuz i would get so into the book that anything could've walked in and I wouldn't have seen it...lol. I personally can't sit still that long cuz its torture for me :0)

I'm looking for ways to build my left arm strength (I'm a righty). Im a pretty accurate shooter but my arm that's holding the bow gets tired & shakey way before my draw arm. I had a plate put in my wrist in March so I'm recovering from that but I feel about 90% with it. I shoot a lot but I'm looking for ideas to build up my left arm strength so i can hold the bow longer. I do try to hold back my last shot for a long time before releasing just to test myself. also how often do u replace your hunting broadheads? when I'm out hunting ill accidentally knock weeds or trees with them. I'm thinking prior to my elk hunt ill buy all new ones. I've had them for 2 years (some less) and I've been on probably 6ish hunts in that timeframe.

hello amd welcome! if you search this site for your topics, there is a wealth of information here

this subject feels a little like politics. my PERSONAL opinion is that I don't think "baiting" is necessary. I get plenty of good pics and i dont use any kind of attractant (tried salt once didn't end up caring for it even though a spike bull literally slept on it). my cameras are doing their job getting intel for me but when my hunts come I will be spot and stalk. Yes I feel baiting increases your odds and yes more game will be taken as a result. I'd rather have the option to hunt every year without bait than go to a draw system with bait. again just my 2 cents.

so I bought Kuiu lightweight rain gear and so far I'm extremely impressed. I used it a couple times last week and will use it again this week if mother nature okays it. the quality of the workmanship is very very good. kept me cool when sweating and kept me warm when weather turned a bit chilly. I didn't use it yet in a downpour but it was sprinkling pretty good. the only downfall so far is the length of the medium pants (too long for 5'4" and the material isn't as quiet as my other suede rain suit. I got it on clearance and saved $75 each piece but it was not returnable. I took a chance and so far I'm glad I did. I got mediums both pieces with enough room to layer under it.

I was once told by a G&F officer that in his unit if they are empty and are G&F tanks to let him know and he can arrange to have it filled. not sure if all units work that way too. could call and ask about that particular tank
