I have killed two mulies back to back in the desert with my bow but they were no where near that big. That is one huge accomplishmment right there. You are the man. You need to do a double pedastool mount or something cool with those bad boys. A huge congrats on two well deserved bucks.

Down here in Yuma we have had a little over 2" in the last 24 hours. Our average yearly rainfall is 3.75". So we may break that in a 5 day period. We really needed it bad a lot of the drinkers out here in 41 and 39 were dry. This should fill'em all back up. Should have a beautiful spring with all the desert flowers from these rains.

Man I sure was hoping that Christianson barrel would have worked out better. That thing turned out awesome and the wieght displacement of the gun is perfect. I sure am tempted tp do the same thing to my 7 RUM. -
Those are some beautiful birds. I shot my first blue goose in Mississppi and got it mounted. They sure make pretty mounts. Especially next to my 2 woodies I got down there. Gotta love those late season AZ waterfowlhunts. Congrats on the gorgeous birds.

I just got back from another fun coues hunt on the rez. We hunted unit C this year and saw a ton of deer. Out of the 5 days I hunted we would average about 10 bucks seen a day. The rut was a little slow at first but it did turn on in some spots by the end of this last week. Thursday morning my dad and I glassed up a couple of bucks that had some potential so I hiked up to them to get a closer look. They ended up being a couple mid 80 type bucks and I was looking for something above 90" with 2 days left in the hunt so we moved spots. We got to the other glassing spot and got set up and after about 2 minutes of glassing I found a good buck. The only thing I saw was a good looking frame with good mass and main beams with good eye guards. I didn't even think twice. I grabbed my gear and gun and took off and told my dad to keep an eye on him. The buck was about a mile away on the other side of this big drainage. So I crossed the big drainage and got up to where I could see again and my dad told me he had laid down under a cedar tree. Well you know how it goes there were about 50 cedars on the hill side and he had moved farther down on the hill. I just kept easing my way closer and glassing. Finally my dad tells me the doe is up and I stop and glass her up and she is 450 yards. He says the buck is behind her 50 yards under a cedar. There are 5 cedars that could possibly be the one and the slope of the hill prevented me from seeing below any of them. The only thing I can do is get closer. The doe bedded about a minute after she got up so I put another cedar between me and her and just took one step at a time being as quite as I could. I reached the cedar that was between me and her and I knew I was with in 50 yards of her. I was on my hands and knees and peeked around and still no buck. I knew if I stood up I would have a good chance of seeing the buck but I also knew the doe was close enough she would bust me so I better be ready. So, I took out my tripod while I was laying on the ground and extended it all the way out to use it as a rest. I stood it up and grabbed my gun. Since I had left the truck it had taken me 2 hours to get to this point. I started to stand up real slow with my gun ready and right when I got up I see the doe stand up at about 25 yards. She turned and bolted off. I knew the buck would be right behind her I looked around and just like clock work the buck stood up and I swung over put the crosshairs on the shoulder and squeezed as fast as possible. Bingo, hit him right on the point of the shoulder and he never moved a muscle. I was using my 7MM RUM because I thought I would be shooting long range but at 88 yards it may have been a little bit of an over kill. After I did my jumping up and down and celebration dance I walked up to the buck and he turned out to be pretty interesting with about 5 extra little 1" or so extra points. I was real happy with the buck he ended up scoring 92 6/8". He is going to look great on the wall with the others. I wanted to thank my dad for being a great navigator and caring out the 2 back quarters. Can't wait until next year. Hope you enjoy the pics. Here is me and my dad with the Christain Wolfe thumbs up on the pack out!

dang you are always 2 steps ahead of me. Hopefully next year you and I will have a picture together with two 120" bucks. I know we will have fun no matter what. I am excited to try unit B.

Oh that was deep Shayne but, at least I could read after graduating Yuma High. Over there at taco tech you guys were held to a much higher standard of being able to write your name in cursive so you could graduate. That Havalon knife is the best knife I have ever used field dressing an animal. When I was cutting the rear quarters off it cut the tendens like it was melted butter. I was amazed. I switched to the blunt tipped blades to cape him out and there was no meat left at all on the cape and zero holes. When the blade got dull about 20 seconds and I had a new one on pluggin away. It only took 2 blades to do everything but I could have easily done it with one. The blades are so easy to change at the first sign of dullness I changed. I would recomend them to anybody.

I just got my new truck today and the first thing that went on it was my CWT sticker. I like the idea of the new one though.

Thanks again guys. Yeah, I was real nervous when I stood up. I had no idea how it was going to go down but that was really the best place to be and I had no idea how long it would be before he got up. I guess the luck went my way and he stood up looking the wrong direction. He never saw me or knew what happened. Man it sure was a rush. That part of the hunt makes it way more than worth everything that goes in to it.

No I went to Yuma High.

Thanks Tommy. We are gonna get together for turkey season and go kill a couple big ole long beards. Hope everything is well with you and your family. Thanks guys for all the kind words.

Man I may be crazy but I think he goes between 99"-104". Good mass, nice width, good main beams, pretty good G2's and G3's.

I hunted the last 3 days on the San Carlos. The whitetail were rutting pretty good in a few areas and other areas you couldn't find any bucks with does very hit and miss right now.
-
That is a beautiful toad buck. Congrats. I say 112".

My god to think that thing was killed no more than 40 miles from where I was hunting this weekend. What an amazing buck. A buck of a million life times. Huge congrats to the hunter. -
I shoot the 140 accubonds with RL 19. Shoots 1/2" at a 100 and has killed a lot of deer and antelope.

They are called Mote Bales. It is all the trashy cotton that is discarded during the gining process. A regular clean cotton bale with marketable cotton weighs 500lbs. These mote bales vary in weight but usually weigh between 350-400lbs. The cotton gins have a hard time getting rid of all the trashy cotton so they bale it up and either sell them cheap or give them away. If you don't live in the valley to get one of these just visit the closes cotton gin and you can pick as many as you want up pretty cheap or sometimes free. Usually the arrows are easy to pull, but some of them are baled so tight it can be almost impossible to pull out. We have about 15 at our little range and 2 of them we had to get rid of because we couldn't get the arrows out. The rest are awesome though. Now you know everything there is to know about cotton archery targets. If you need any more useless info feel free to shoot me a pm. I am bored.

Man your dad deserved that buck. He worked hard for it and is still paying for it. A huge congrats to Mr. Wolf. Thanks for the help this weekend bro.

A big congrats to you and the team Jim. I hope some day I can get that raffle tag and spend a few months with all of you in the woods. Take care and I hope to meet all you guys some day soon. Chrissy talks about you guys all the time. I won't tell you all the terrible things he says. Good luck on the rest of your hunts.

matthewp45 replied to Whitey's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
