First off I wanted to write this to thank Christian (azcouesandelk) for helping me out so much on my hunt. We were on bulls every day we just did not get the luck we needed to put it all together. We had an awesome time and the last two days were beautiful glassing in the snow. My buddy that had the other tag killed about a 325" bull. We were together and it was his birthday so I let him shoot first and thats all it took. Well, hopefully I will get another tag so I can get back and have another great hunt. Thanks again home chicken. I will post a pic of my buddies bull soon. Sorry I posted in the wrong section.

Oh yeah you probably heard that story. The horses did great with the meat but went back to get the horns the next morning and got them down to the bottom of the mountain. Tommy went to give the horse a drink and the antler poked the horse in the side and the horse went ballistic. The horse was running off and the horns slipped off and impailed the horse in the belly. That made the horse go even crazier. He ended up loosing the entire cape and Tommy lost his 22 pistol. Just one of those things that happen and thank god no one was hurt. There are always fun circus events going on in all of our hunts. The horse ended up being OK too.

My favorite huntin partner after my mule deer hunt this year. She is 6 years old now and she sure does make my hunting trips a lot more special now.

Dang man you are becoming the coues deer master. Congrats on all the deer.

What a great buck. That is going to be hard to top there buddy.

Just kidding about the antlers. Clay said great buck. Should be done in about 9 months. Congrats again.

Hey Mitch I just dropped off you buck at Clays and Brian fell down the hill and dropped your antlers. They broke off right after the brow tines on the right side but Clay said he could fix it. He said you probably would not even be able to notice. Sorry about that. That thing was a great buck!

What Scope and power do you like?
matthewp45 replied to tontotom's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Leupold makes a great version of the expensive Mark 4 long range tactical and instead of the M1 knobs it comes with the regular 7/8" target knobs. This makes it about $500 cheaper. You can get a Mark 4 with the great glass and focus adjustment for about $625. It comes in a 4.5X14X40MM. It is the best scope you can buy for the money. When you look for it look under Mark 4 LR/T with the 7/8" target knobs instead of the M1. -
+2 for the blood light. Got it for a present and is a piece of junk. Also any rechargeable spot light. They always last about 2 minutes and a 10 million candle power looks like a 10,000 candle power.

There is a husband and wife team that run a great butcher shop out of there house. They live over behind the airport. They have done a couple of animals for me and they do a tremendous job. All the sausage, burger, roasts and steaks were prepred perfect and all the meat has always tasted great. They are very fast and the packaging is great as well. There number is 928-474-5544. If Clay from Mogollon Taxidermy is reading he knows them very well. Great people. I would highly recomend them.

The double shooting stix is the only way to go. That was the only way I could stay steady on the buck I killed with you. Congrats on a great buck and what a great shot.

Great buck. Very well deserved! You have got to mount that thing so you can be reminded of such a great hunt every time you look at it.

Way to go master guide! Congrats to Randy that is a great buck! -
I took my #1 huntin partner to help some friends of ours try and fill some deer tags rhis weekend. She had a great time out there. I have more fun with her than anyone else I have ever hunted with. Make sure you guys remember to take those kids out hunting with you. You definetly will never regret it and the kids will never forget it.

Will I ever get a bigger buck?
matthewp45 replied to Ernesto C's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
That thing turned out great! I see a lot of room on that wall for all the other big bucks to come. Going to be hard to top that one but I am positive you are going to do it. Just shoot the right buck this time ! -
Congrats to you and your clients. Those are some great bulls.

The long awaited opening day for my desert mule deer hunt finally arrived today and I got my hunt over in a hurry. I started scouting a couple of months ago and found a really nice main frame three point that was really tall. I seemed to be able to find him on almost every scouting trip and decided last week he was the one I was going to try and kill. I went on my final scouting trip last weekend and I found him once again and he had rubbed his velvet off. I watched him bedded last weekend for about an hour. He sure did look good. All I had to do now was put a plan together and kill him. I knew where he ate and where he slept so I figured I would try to get in the middle of the two on a point and see if I could get him going to bed opening morning I slipped into my glassing spot about 5:00 AM and had to sit and wait about an hour and a half. As soon as I could start to see I picked him up leaving his feeding area. He was headed straight for me. I watched him as he started to angle slightly away from me and I knew I had to make a move to get in front of him before it was to late. I got up and made my way to another point about a 1/4 mile away. When I got to the point I started glassing for him and he had worked his way a lot closer. He was at 435 yards and about to slip into a big thicket of mesquite so I figured it was now or never. So I ranged him again to make sure and it was right on the nose at 435 yards. I dialed my turret to about 435 yards and slid my gun up on my tripod. I took off the safety and settled my crosshairs on his shoulder. I started to squeeze the trigger and BOOM the old 7MM RUM barked and the buck disapeared. I jacked another round in and put the scope back up to see him laying dead in his tracks. What a great feeling I had at that moment. It is a great feeling when you put in a lot of time in on a single buck and your plan ends up with the buck on your wall. He ended up scoring right at 170" and he is only a main frame 3X3 and he is 24" wide. He has an 18" G2 and 17" G3's. Hope you enjoy the pics. A big thanks to my dad for helping me get him out and being there to help me celebrate.
