    San Carlos

Ive hunted san carlos for alot of years and Ive hunted every unit except D west. All of them carry great bucks so It really doesnt matter, each unit can be very rough country or each can be easy, its just a matter of what you want and what you like. jlhcoues

    Unit 28 Bull

Thought I would share a set of antlers my son found in unit 28. He found this bull along side of another dead bull in 2004 while scouting for his archery elk hunt. The bull grossed 418 unofficial by our local taxidermist.

    Unit 28 Bull

Apache7mm-- Thanks for the reply. We have seen several bulls that are poor or hurt along this area of the res border. They our some monster bulls along this strecth of the unit 28 and res line. The bull we found has a main beam of 58 inches and a base circumfrence of 10 inches..... By the way Ive hunted the san carlos for the last 7 years for coues deer, what a great hunt. People treat me great, see tons of quality bucks and no other hunters, its fantastic for the price. Ive hunted Mexico for a whole lot more money and it wasnt as good as hunt. jlhcopues

    Unit 28 Bull

We found this bull in the Gila Mountains just about 20 minutes from my house on the diamond bar ranch. There were 2 bulls dead , the other one was just a 300 bull. I dont think they had been fighting. We have seen several bulls in this area that have been wounded. I think what happens is that they are coming down in this basin off of the San Carlos to die..

    broadhead comparison

I hunted the glory days of archery elk, starting in the late seventies. You could get a tag in NM and AZ with no problem, there wasnt any type of pressure like the circus we have now plus im lucky.

    broadhead comparison

I have killed 27 bull elk with my bow and every one has been taken .with a Rocky mountain broadhead. In the beginning of course I used the 125s but now I use the premiure 100s, never had any problems. jlhcoues

    Big Bucks

chd Ive set back long enough and listen to tour crap. Your comments on this sight are as ignorant as some of your friends. I happened to guide one of your so cllad buddies in NM a few years ago on a elk hunt. He was the outfitter that had the client but he didnt know the unit, so he contacted me , wha t a great and honest guy. I worked for him and his clients for about 3 days and had enough or their bs and walked out of camp. My point is birds of a feather.... look me up some time I would love to chat. jlhcoues

    Ruger No. 1

Ive shot rugers for 30 years, you cant go wrong. The only thing I would like to see is a lighter trigger pull. If you change it you will void the warranty, its the chance you take ,I change mine and never had a problem
  20. It sounds to me like a few of you do not realize what this. country was built around, farming and ranching! I know first hand what farming and ranching require, which is alot of long hours and back breaking work, I happened to be a farmer. I do not expect any hand outs from anyone, as far as ranchers being parasites, that is way out of line I cant believe any one who hunts made that statement. I hope you dont think that you will get any access on their land with that attitude. The ranchers contribute alot to our land, think about the drinkers that we put our stands up on or the water holes that we set, some so called parasite put them there. By the way chd come by and Ill give you a real job, I really doubt if you could hang...jlhcoues

    USO: Lawyer letter to AZGF

Has anyone ever seen what N.M. charges currently for non resident elk? Ithink its around 700 for the so called quality hunt, plus only a certain percent go to non residents without a guide. To me this is the pot calling the kettle black, George needs to look at his own back yard first. I have run into him before on lower eagle creek, him and Zumbo and believe me they are both a-holes

San Carlos tag fees way up

hey guys i guess its just how much a person wants to pay or I should say what a person has to do to hunt these great deer. The res offers a great hunt without alot of pressure from other hunters, to me its worth it. If you dont like the prices then dont hunt there. Ive hunted on the res for several years and never had a warden hassel me in any way. I thank the tribe for the privledge to hunt ther.

    San Carlos coues?

Grim, I've hunted San Carlos the past 9 years. I've taken several nice bucks, my biggest was a 109, 3 by 4 in unit A, year 2002. I've hunted all of the units A, B, C in November and January. All of my January hunts have been unit A. This year I took a 96" buck in November from unit B. I would recommned the res for the price over Mexico. I've hunted Mexico once and killed a 114, but the res is a much simpler hunt to organize. The price is high but the quality is great. jlhcoues
