    practice

You are shooting quite a bit more then most people. I shoot 2 to 3 times a week and shoot a lot when i practice. Most people dust their bows off the week before their hunt and only practice a few times before they go. I shoot year round at ben avery even during the summer. I'm normally the only one out there until august hits.
  2. I'm thinking some people on here support obamacare after some of the comments i have read on this post. I would never wish anyone's homes to be burned. Do remember though you purchased a home in an area that was a high risk of forrest fires. It's kind of like the people in california that build a houses on the sides of a hills. Where they know every year when it rains they have mud slides that could destroy there home but they build them anyways. I can't feel sorry for those people. However if you buy a home and make sure you follow on the per cautions to keep it from burning down in a fire i would fell bad for you. Look at the engineer who built his cabin in crown king. He knew there was a high risk of his cabin being burned down so he built it out of materials that aren't as flammable and cleared trees and pine needles away from his cabin. When the fire was burning other people's cabins down his was safe.
  3. Well said! Its the same deal with the retards in new york trying to ban large sugary drinks, because they are unhealthy! Ya they are unhealthy but what gives you the right to tell me i can't drink what i want when i want. I disagree with forest services not allowing people in certain areas because they are scared someone "might" accidentally start a fire. Thats just BS. Lighting might cause a fire too, what are they going to do ban lighting next?

    Friday night Bowfishing

Oh ok thanks for the info. I have been kicking around the idea of buying a bowfishing set up but really didn't like the idea of eating all the carp i would shoot. Is that legal to sink them?

    Which Range Finder?

I have the nikon that is angle compensated and will go out to 1000 yards but i can't remember the model. It works well but i haven't been able to get more then 800 yards out of mine and i can rarely get that. Its good out to around 600 to 700 yards. Personally i thought the angle compensation was a must so i sold the one i had and bought a angle compensated. But once i took it out to play with it i was disappointed because there really wasn't that much of a difference in yardage that i could see. If ranging out to 1000 yards is really important to you i wouldn't buy the nikon. As far as spending the extra $100 i wouldn't spend it personally.

question about august archery in the desert

Buy some cheap cameras if your worried about them getting stolen. I use the wildview cameras and they cost about $50 and work pretty well for the money.

    Mechanical or Fixed Broadhead

I believe the quiver made for the rage is called the ghost quiver and it should work with all broadheads.

    Mechanical or Fixed Broadhead

I love the rage broadheads! Massive entry and exit holes on every animal i have killed with them. They are also very accurate i shoot mine out to 80 yards with no problems at all. The only down fall they do open up in quivers that aren't designed specifically for the rage.

    Bear defense

I definitely would not say the 1911 is the worst gun ever. In fact the 1911 is going to be way more accurate then the glock. The glock is a good gun but i wouldn't compare the two to each other.

    3a/3c

Thanks I will practice my 10 yard shots allthough that sounds obsurd to me, not that I have the ability to make or not make 10 yd shots but that I can actually get that close to them.... I am not a trophy hunter by any means, I actually follow the old addage, you can't eat antlers but I will admit I am totally jonesing for this hunt and hope and pray I dont get punked.... I don't even know "how to score any animals" so I honestly wouldn't know what a big one is except HOLY S^&* that one is huge and right next to me You drew a trophy unit! Don't shoot anthing smaller then a 6 point until the last few days of your hunt. Get on you tube and look up elk hunts in your area and watch the video's of huge bulls. I believe Corey's guide service has a awesome video of big bulls in your unit. Also if you watch other archery bull hunts you will see that elk come into 10 yards or closer more then you would think. Good luck you drew a awesome tag.

    Python master lock

You shouldn't have to lock them up! People should just leave them alone and buy they're own camera's instead of stealing them. I never locked up my camera's until this year and not once have i had one stolen. I have had friends share horror stories of stolen camera's though. I always felt hunters were a better class of people and wouldn't steal from others but i guess not.

Long range accuracy from fixed blade heads???

I love the rage broadheads! They cause massive damage and they have always shot the same as my field points. Tuning your bow for broadheads can be a head ache.

Long range accuracy from fixed blade heads???

    Haha +1 for shooting Matthews

Long range accuracy from fixed blade heads???

Not to start a Pi$$ing match but that has to be one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard. The only time Fixed heads "suck" is if 1. The bow is not properly tuned or 2. The shooter has form issues. Whenever I tune my bow, after paper, walk back etc.. I shoot a fixed, mechanical (usually either rage, or T3 ) and a field point. I'm not happy until they all shoot together. Once a bow is tuned, almost any head mechanical or fixed will shoot great. I like G5 striker, montec or Wac em and now I am shooting the VPA's they are awesome. I would love to see someone shoot accurate groups at 80 yards with a fix blade as accurately as i can do with a mechanical. Fix blades take a lot more effort and time to tune to your bow. I personally have my bow paper tuned as well and it helps but they still doesn't compare to the mechanical broadheads. But thats also my opinion. You know just as well as i do, that if you ask 10 different archers one question about something you will get 10 different answers. Thanks for not taking my post as an attack, as it wasn't meant to be, and I agree everyone will have an opinion. Here is mine: I love to shoot broadheads, I shoot them all year around, I like to try and shoot as many brands, styles as I can. I have shot many, many broadheads and agree that mechanicals can be less sensitive to form. BUT for all of MY hunting applications, the difference between my mechanicals and fixed are negligible, out to my max hunting range. Shooting a fixed has two major advantages though. 1. (I like numbering my thoughts) When using a fixed head there is no premature deployment (quiver, or hitting branch or spider clip fail, or rubber band failure etc...) 2. When I practice with my fixed COC, VPA's I then can touch up the edge and hunt with them without having to take them off my arrow to change out blades or to take off the practice tip and re-screw in the hunting bh. Once my solid BH is spin tested, shot then I hunt with my practice tip WITH ABSOLUTELY NO ADJUSTMENTS TO THE ARROW/BROADHEAD except to resharpen and of course that is done without taking it off the arrow. Once thing I believe in is to shoot what you are comfortable with have confidence in, this archery game is mostly mental. One more thing, hitting an elk in the vitals at 60 yards is relativly easy, compared to hitting a coues deer. With an elk I would rather give up a minimal amount of accuracy to have a tougher, fixed head. again my opinion. And i would agree with you the mechanicals do have flaws they arent perfect. I like a lot of things about fix blades but i always have headaches getting them tuned well enough to shoot them accurately.
