VIDEO WEEK 1: https://vimeo.com/57037462 VIDEO WEEK 2: https://vimeo.com/57729914 It starts again for me on Tuesday. What a miracle to pull that tag twice in the same calendar year! I learned a lot about the mountain and the animals last year. I have a goal set at a 40" + billy. Ultimately Im secretly praying that "Kong" (a monster billy I wounded and lost last January) is still around. 15 days to get it done!!!! Here's some pics of Kong and the terrain from last winter. "You skin grizz?"

VIDEO LINK: https://vimeo.com/74880527 Here's my Gila bull. Very bitter-sweet. Im ecstatic to have experienced this hunt. The country is beautiful. The rains have caused a lot of problems over the last 6 days hunting-wise. In contrast, the grass is green and I stopped every morning to soak it all in. This bull came in screaming in the rain. We were buried in the cedars and I saw his back end and thought it was a 5th and a 6th of another big ol' 7x7 we were on. I made the decision to shoot at 50 yards when I saw his tops. He came crushing through the cedars clanking bone all the way in. Called and stopped him at 5 yards!!! Stare down ensued and luckily my buddy called and turned the bull. I found a gap at 20 yards and stroked him quartering away. The arrow blew through his last rib ad out his opposite shoulder! This is nowhere near the caliber of bull I set my sights on but I realize its so much more about the experience and animal. He was so covered in mud when I shot him I was terrified about the broad head being affected. The Grave Digger 100 gr chisel broke three ribs and still flew 70 yards past the bull!

Well, here is my antelope hunt/disaster. I had fun with this one because the hunt utterly SUCKED. My favorite film of all time was my inspiration. Enjoy. VIDEO LINK: https://vimeo.com/74173684

Water?!?!?! It rained every day during the season! I have no clue where they drank. The tanks were trackless.

CouesSniper!!! Finally someone got the Snatch reference! I think I nailed it!?!? I had him at 40yds running one day. Most "shots" would've been 100-125 yds. The does we're killing me.

VIDEO LINK: https://vimeo.com/72814836 The video tells the story of the hunt. Here's a side note: This is 75% of the crew. Jonathan Ruspil is taking the photo. Notice Cavett Chipman is barely grinning. HE IS JUSTIFIED!!! I am publicly declaring guilt for a violation that most hunters will hang over... I killed his buck!!! Cavett and I have hunted together for a long time. He has spent countless hours scouting, glassing, setting cameras, establishing patterns etc. The night this deer was harvested he had first shot. The bucks were single file in front of him and heading my way. I waited as told for what seemed like an eternity for Cavett to let the air out of him--but the buck kept coming. I watched the deer pass Cavett and continue coming up the trail to me. I drew on a smaller buck and waited for him to shoot this guy first. I frantically asked Larry if he was going to shoot as the deer were getting closer! He said he didn't know and that I should take a shot if I had it. In a panic I let my arrow rip and took the buck. I crushed my best friend. I blew it. I made a decision and it was the wrong move. He was pinned down by a smaller buck I couldn't see. He had the buck broadside at 30 yards. Cavett is my best hunting buddy. He accepted my multiple apologies. I wanted everyone to know that this deer is by far my best mule deer of my life-and owe it to you Soldier! "You skin grizz?"

LINK: https://vimeo.com/71487651 I just got back from a warm-up hunt in Northern CA. Blacktail hunting wasn't primo but the piggies kept us busy all week! I had a lot of fun on the trip and made some great friends. Good luck this month, and the next, and the next....!

I had the chance to hit the mountain again during the Feb muzzleloader hunt. My buddy Ben drew the coveted tag and we had an unforgettable week trying to seal the deal! VIDEO LINK: https://vimeo.com/62134931 "You skin grizz?"

Thanks bud. Unfortunately, this was not the big billy I lost. We found him alive and doing well, but never got him down.

Hey guys, I shot a monster billy ibex on Jan 01. I broke his front left shoulder and I believe I punctured one lung. We tracked him a few hundred yards and left him until Wednesday morning. When we popped into the basin, we glassed his band leaving the canyon and he was not with them. We eventually trailed him into multiple blood-filled beds and jumped him at 20ft. He was extremely weak and disoriented. He hobbled across the draw and down an adjacent chute. He's definitely struggling. It snowed non stop today and we dropped off the top to refuel. His blood trail is toast but were very confident that he will be within a few hundred yards of where we last saw him. The main reason I'm posting this is to let any other archers in the area know that if they see him to let me know. He's an absolute giant, 45" or so. I really appreciate any help!! I have until the 15th to track him down. My tag is punched and I'm going to find this guy. I have a ton of photos and videos of him. "You skin grizz?"

Yes, we found him alive! Had a muzz hunter on him but couldn't seal the deal. He looks really good. Limping a bit but keeping up with the band. Bitter sweet. The shot went through his front shoulder, brisket and low neck and missed all vitals.

Thanks guys! I worked it all out with NMGFD and I can legally locate and retrieve him. Just very specific steps, documentation, communication etc must be followed. Heading back in a week! I hope the birds are flying!!!

Thanks Kevin. Aoudads in 9 months! Amazing news! I was able to get in contact with the guide who saw "Kong" the day I lost him. He's been guiding and wasn't aware that I was on this quest. Let me start by saying he's not only an selfless, giving person but he shares the same level of passion that I do for these ibex. We spoke for several hours and realized that we were looking for "Kong" in the wrong drainage. He was a half-mile south of where I searched for 6 days. The guide not only feels that "Kong" is still in the chutes he last saw him in but has offered to go up there with me and try to close the book on this amazing billy! I contacted NMGFD this morning and am in the process of acquiring a possession permit and other documentation to make it completely legal if we are able to locate him! I will be back the first weekend in Feb. Temps have been climbing out there and chances are very good birds will have found him by then!
