Returned late last night from my Dad and I's hunt. We spent some great time together and were both able to drop the hammer on a couple of decent bucks. Opening morning I glassed up a group of 5 bucks about 1000 yards away and I could tell that there were two pretty good bucks in the bunch. My dad was on the other side of the ridge from me and was no where to be found so went after em solo. After a few hours I made my way to a spot that would have given me 350 yard shot but the bucks decided to relocate into different beds right as I got there. They bedded in some really thick cover and I tried waiting them out but after several hours of no movement I decided to get a little bit closer. I took note of some landmarks and wind direction and got within less than 100 yards when they busted up. I missed the opportunity at the biggest buck but was able to put a bullet in the second biggest buck as he crossed through a small opening in the brush. I was confident in my shot, but did not know how well he was hit because I never seen him come out. Well after crossing a nasty ravine I got over to the place I had seen him last and there he was lying right behind a bush. I am very happy with him and he is one of the better bucks I have shot. Lets just say that was the worst pack out I have ever done but it was well worth it. Second morning my dad and I made it to a good glassin spot right before light. We glassed and glassed but only turned up does way out in the distance. I decided to move to the other side of the ridge to glass some more. My dad had spotted a buck feeding below him and was able to sneak over to his rifle that he had left at his last glassing spot about 20 yards away in the wide open. This buck had been right below us the whole time we were glassing and had not spooked even with us moving around. Meanwhile I am glassin on the other side of the ridge when I hear a shot and rush to the other side to see a nice buck running only about 100 yards away. I made some noise to make buck stop and that was all she wrote as my dad dropped the buck in it tracks. Congrats to all the other successful hunters. Im enjoyin all the pics, keep em comin.

Congrats to you and your dad on some mighty fine bucks! Nothin in the world better than hunting with your dad! Love the character on your buck.

Have not put a tape on him yet. I left the rack back home but will be back there this weekend and will try and do so then. Casey- The pic of my dad's buck on the four-wheeler turned out better than the field pic. I still got a thing or two to learn about taking good field pics. GreyGhost85- Would have been fun to have ya there... especially watchin big jim layin the hammer down on that buck. He has really been puttin a hurtin on the critters so far... If we are lucky I will have some more pics of a carp to post in a few weeks from my dad's new mex hunt. Good luck to everyone still hunting and for all you with hunts still coming up!

It is just sickening hearing about all this stuff that takes place. I too have seen things that just make me wonder what kind of people are out there that call themselves hunters. I have been by the butchers in my home town and seen people pull up with elk that are all bloated up because they havent even gutted the dang thing. There is one other thing that I have personally seen that really yanked my chain when I was out helpin a buddy on a late bull elk hunt. We ended up gettin to a fairly remote area a little later than we had planned on and when getting there we seen that we got there a lil too late. There were some hunters already there and they had killed a big ole bull that was prolly pushin 360. We said congrats to the hunters and then they asked about easier ways into the area (it was apparent that they had lucked into this area by the questions they asked). I gave them some info and then we were on our way to go and try and find some other elk. Well come to find out I go in there later and find that they had only taken the hide and antlers and left all the meat! I was beyond pissed when I seen this but really could not do much because I did not ever get their names nor ever see their vehicle to get a license plate number. I wish these guys would have told me I could have the meat if I wanted it because I would have been more than happy to pack it out. Hope I never see this kinda of crap again from people who think that they are "hunters". These kinda people dont deserve to "kill" such a quality animal muchless even deserve to have the privledge to hunt.

I don't post too often but figured this hunt was worth sharing with everyone. My dad and I were lucky enough to harvest a couple of great goats a couple weeks back. I shot my buck opening morning at about 8 am with my buddies .264. I watched this buck the entire summer and man was I glad that all the scouting paid off. We taped him out at 83 6/8. This truly is a buck of a lifetime and I know I will really have trouble ever topping that if I ever get drawn again. My dad shot his buck on the second morning at 8 am as well. My dads buck gave us a run for our money. The trees were really thick and man was he rutting hard, which made for about a half hour foot chase before my dad was able to get a shot. Beleive it or not, after my dad hit him the first time he started raking a little pine tree! It was unbelievable to witness such a thing. The picture of my dad's buck is probably one of my favorite big game photos because you don't see goats in the pines too often, especially in the ferns. The picture of my dad's buck doesn't do it justice, it may not be very tall but had great mass. We had a great hunt and want to thank my buddy Chase for coming along on my hunt. Also a big thanks to my other buddy Bridger (GreyGhost85) who came along on both hunts and also let me use his new rifle. It was great to have these guys there to share in some memories that never will be forgotten. In the group photo from left to right: Bridger, Chase, Dad, Me

Just want to thank you all for the kind words. Lark: Glad to hear your enjoyin the meat. Hey givin you guys some meat is the least I could do for some long time family friends. Hopefully it also helped offset the cost of gas for Bridger drivin up to our neck of the woods. Casey: Hey I think the group photo really makes that goat look good cuz I aint the only one with an ugly mug! .......I think that ugly ole mug of yours even makes a dang javi look pretty darn good.

Great topic and Nice Bucks! Here a few of my dad and I's trophys. Although they are not as big as some of the bucks I have seen on this site they are all special to us in their own way. The coues with the big eye gaurds is my dads best coues so far. The other coues is not too big but my dad mounted it for me because it was my first buck. My dad also shot both of the muley bucks. The trout is not the biggest trout that I have caught but it is the biggest cutt- throat, it was 23" long and weighed 5 1/2 pounds. Hope you all enjoy, and I'm excited to see all the trophys everyone has! Now back to homework..... -
Me and my old man both got rifle antelope tags! I can't wait to start scouting! Congrats to everyone who drew tags!

"that elk probably died because he saw your smelly @$$ walkin up to him and fainted, not beacuse of a broken pedicle!! " I was waiting for you to reply to that. Its a good thing that you are getting that new Remington 700 .264 Sendero cuz you will scaring off bucks 500 yard out because have got to be the grundgiest, ugliest person I have ever met. haha.
-
This is my first time posting pictures so hopefully it works. I found the elk head this summer, and it appears that he broke his pedicle, but I am still unsure if this is what caused him to die. My dad found the muley head quite a few years back, and if you look closely you can see that the drop tine pretty much goes into the eye socket.

Check out the new tripler from Jim White!
have2hunt replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Optics and tripods
I checked out the new tripler today on a pair of Minox 15s at the archery shop here in Flagstaff. I am very impressed with the clarity of the glass. I too am a poor college student and I should be able to fit this in my budget when my tax return comes. -
zeiss conquest 15x45
have2hunt replied to crazy4COUES's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I know that you want input on the zeiss conquest 15X45s, but like some of the others here I would also recommend the Minox 15X58s. They are a bit big and on the heavy side, but to me I like the fact that they are built like a tank. The dark haze that you said you seen when looking though them might have been caused by not having both the twist eye cups all the way out. Myself and others that have looked through these have had the same problems with the eye cups. I have looked through swaro 15s and love em, but like everyone else I cannot stomache the pricetag. I think that the the Minox 15s are the best bet for the price. Everyone that I have talked to about the Minox 15s also agree that they are the real deal for the price. Like many others here, I also got my Minox from Doug at Cameraland, hes a great guy and gave a me a heck of a deal. -

Wyoming antelope hunt(all 22 minutes of it)
have2hunt replied to fatfootdoc's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Congrats to you and your buddy those are some fine lookin goats. That is absolutely awesome that your son was able to witness you taking a fine goat. I'm sure that will be a hunt that he will never forget. I agree with deerslam about antelope hunts being good to take younger hunters on. When I was about 12 I got to see my dad drop an antelope in its tracks at about 40 yards with his .54 cal TC Hawkins Muzzleloader. The following year I got drawn and was able to harvest my first antelope at about 100 yards with a muzzleloader as well. Both hunts were fairly tough and required a lot of spot and stalk. These hunts have given me awesome memories that will stick with me forever. Once again Congrats!
