  1. Sorry to bring up an old topic but just sharing some before & after pics using mud and tung oil I just completed for a neighbor. These two bucks were just taken in Oct. and the velvet was ruined so the hunter stripped the velvet off completely. I was asked to fix it with some color to make them look as natural as possible. Keep in mind the flash of the camera sort of highlights some areas and makes them look shinier than they really are. There is a bit of gloss but as I told the owner of the bucks... it is very easy to knock down or reduce the shine by running a fine steel wool over it a few times to your liking. These hard solid whites were harder to color than your avg. semi white shed you might find. Lot's of difficult spots that just won't take on color. Still beats using stain In my opinion as it gives more character.

First 4 pics should be before pics and the rest are after mud and oil process.

  2. I agree with Coach... but must add it will also be the true test of a real man. Are you going to be part of the looting, stealing, thievery, debauchery, chaos and pure evil that only makes the situation worse? Or are you going to get out there, work together, and fend for your family in a true, honest, ethical way..? In the end we all end up dead.. so the 1st option only harms you eternally. No big deal to some I guess. Coach it's a great thread... something to discuss for sure as most Americans think life will go on uninterrupted forever but we all know there's a good chance of that not happening in the world we live in.

  3. This is getting kind of ridiculous.. I'm not even a prepper.. Lol. Unsure why I even responded to this thread. I guess your guys' idea of it being ok to take from another to survive struck a chord with me. Lance to answer your question.. No I don't think I would be the only one in the mts. trying to survive but In my opinion it would be safer than an urban setting considering all the crime and entitlement types these urban areas already have + compound that with a survival situation and lack of food = no thanks. In other words I'd rather surround myself with hunters/outdoor enthusiasts/survivalists who typically hold more common sense and respect for each other, than with city folk if you know what I mean. Even if all the big game was killed there are other abundant plant and natural food sources to live off. But again... If I was able I'd boot scoot to my home in the Midwest. If not, you'd find me out in the AZ woodlands... or not. :)

  4. Well if I've done all I can do for myself and family and we still starve to death... at least I went out in good faith - Without having to rob others. From their I guess the good lord takes over. by robbing others of their food couldn't you consider that murder? You're causing them to now starve to death if you take their food right? That'd be kind of hard to live with wouldn't it.

  5. im not prepping, but i know where several people live that do. if it ever came down it, you can do the math

are we talking about a food shortage? or armageddon? cuz in armageddon, yes i will do anything to survive

Trphyhunter.... that is some pretty backwards thinking. You'll get shot and killed at the first residence you try to rob in AZ. Nice survival technique. Basically you're saying you're too lazy to prep yourself so you will just steal from those that took the time to prep. Definition of Lib.

lol. you think if shoot really hits the fan youre just going to be chilling in your house with your family and your stock piled supplies? i got some bad newz...

Trphyhunter.... Lol. Kind of... except I'll be watching out the window for idiots that think like you and I'll pick them off before they even get to my door. Honestly, I have places I can make it to much safer than my house in Az. So while you're scampering through my neighborhood risking your life robbing the poor... I'll be bunked up in ND with family/relatives that farm their own food. Probably the safest place in the US.

So Critter, are you saying that you would rather starve to death than steal to survive? Most men are equipped with a "will to survive" and that usually means by any means possible. I'm not lazy, I just realize that he who has the most bullets in the end will survive...

Lance... what I'm saying is that trphyhunters way of thinking is as backwards as it comes. He is saying he's going to sit on his butt and when the time comes he'll worry about it then by pillaging and stealing from others who prepped. This mentality is what is wrong with this country and its entitlement crowd. I don't think I could ever resort to stealing to survive when I live in an area surrounded by mountains and nature's own bountiful plethora of game and other natural food sources. I'd get off my butt and go survive another, more ethical way. What would you do?

  7. Holy crap scooter... that's crazy. congrats on a nice cat. I know first hand what you went through. I had something similar happen except with a lion.... I've never told the story on here before but I wasn't pred calling, I was just sitting and glassing for deer in the open on a knob and turned around and a lion was right behind me just staring... scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I completely flipped out, grabbed my rifle, it ran off down the hill. Had I had 2 more seconds I would've gotten a shot off. so close. This lion was darn near breathing down my neck when I turned around... he was just curious.
