There's virtually no public land in Tx. But there are tons of ranchers that want you to come shoot their hogs. You should be able to find a good deal.

Not trying to talk anyone out of the idea of a bivy but I'll share a quick thought. I got stuck in some nasty weather while on a deer hunt two years ago while sleeping in a bivy. Problem I had is you can't open the bivy for anything without getting you sleeping bag soaked while in bad weather. And since there generally is no room in a bivy to keep your pack, you have to consider your pack possibly getting drenched and not having access to anything until the weather breaks. Lastly, the "waterproof" bivy's sold at REI are not necessarily waterproof. For me personally, I'll carry the extra 2lbs and take a small backpacking tent. Just my two cents.... (You can always buy whatever you desire at REI, use it for a season, and return it if you don't like it...no questions asked)

Go tape a note on your manager's door stating that your monthly rent is going to be reduced by $300/mo, effective immediately. And ask him to sign and return it to you. And if he doesn't reply, tape another note on his door that states a late penalty of $250 is going to be assessed for not signing the first note. Sooner or later I'd imagine he will contact you, and when he does tell him you've unilaterally decided to change the terms of your lease, just like he tried to do.

My stepdad talked to G&F yesterday because the card he used was cancelled two weeks ago. He's out of the loop when it comes to all the new rules and stuff and he puts in all the western states, so he can't keep anything straight. But G&F told him the new rules on contacting card holders and they also told him draw results are coming out this week. Hope it's true!
