The key to hogs in CA is private property. There are hogs on public land but there is a lot of competition. It takes alot of scouting away from the crowds to find where the hogs are. The private land hunts aren't cheap as far as I'm concerned and I wouldn't pay the price. But that's easy for me to say cause I have taken hogs before and can usually come up with a free hunt or two on private property. Sorry if I wasn't much help rimhunter.

I'll be going on a hog hunt here in CA. the weekend of March 11th. Other than that I'm going through the regs and application process for all of our western states. So far deer, elk, antelope and moose in WY. are done and elk and mtn. goat are done in UT. Just got the regs for CO. and OR. so I need to be going over them. I actually like going through the application process and dreaming about the hunts I may draw.
