  1. Hi all, we will be holding our third big pig contest over on the AZOD chat board and i wanted to extend the offer too all of you here to enter it. I have a poll to see how many folks would like to have it and so far we have enough but i still would like to see how many others would want to get it going again this year. Once we have enough folks i will send the rules and what not out. It is for legal units in Arizona only guys--no res pigs--but all of the other one's will work. http://azodchat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15235 Let me know if you have any questions.

    Whodathunkit?

I am sure there will be a few groups fight back on this one. I understand the need to keep it lead free near the Bab where the Condors are at but the rest of the state is free of Condors. The Center are a bunch of greenies who try to make hunters pay for everything--they also would like to see all ranchers leave the state--they think with their emotions and with zero scientific research--the Sierra Club are in the same boat now. I hope all of us hunters and shooters in this state stand up and raise some heck against these groups.

6 A junior camp at Mormon Lake

I spoke to "your friend" and he confirmed that it was the other camp and he told me what went down. Very sad and i know this person very well and know he wouldn't make this stuff up. The question about the tag that Steve brought up made since then this guy told me he and the group took the cow in to the camp to kind of show her off and that is when the camp host looked at the tag and said "5B? Your not a youth hunter" and then turned and walked away!! So, the group went to 'this guys' trailer and cooked their own grub-- Like Jim said--you need to come to the AES camp next year and all will be good--not banging on the other camp but i know the camp that the AES group puts on is a winner every year!!

6 A junior camp at Mormon Lake

Troy, I will send a link to this thread to the Pres. of that group--whom i know would never act this way, and will be very upset with this info. I know for a fact that this camp is for all youth hunters not just 6A--6A was picked because it has the largest number of youth hunters--however, that said, they have the youth camp at the location that they have it at because there are other youth hunts going on in other units near the camp. I am a life member of this group and i would never believe this would happen--i hope it doesn't ever again.

    Sons first Mule Deer Buck

    Son's 1st X 3

OK, i know this dude and his stud of a son and i have to tell ya that Frank has done an excellent job of being a great Dad--a couple of Frankie's tags were his Dad's and because Frankie was doing so well in school Frank transfered his tags over to Frankie--that is how he has gotten a couple of his tags and i have to tell ya it will pay dividends, and has already. Good job to both of you!!!
  11. Here is a buck that my hunter took 3 minutes into the hunt saturday. My hunter was very happy with this old buck and the shot was only 75 yards.

    Minox Binos

Lance, I sent my 15's back to get them back in focus--i got excited on my coues hunt two years ago and we went for a fall--i turned out OK but the glasses were toast. Now i have to say that with my pack, rifle and my big butt the glasses took the load of it dead center. So any way, i sent them to Minox and in two weeks i had them back better than new!! Great warranty--just like my Swaro's--Leica is a different story though--they go all the way back to Germany!

    Back-to-Back Antelope Hunts

Dan, The New Mexico buck is sweet but i really love the water buffalo looking bucks. I would have smacked him in a heart beat if i had the tag!!! Congrats to a great season of antelope hunting!! I go after mine in about two weeks near Fence Lake, New Mexico--i have three days and i will hold out for the best one i can find before busting one.

    Trail Cam elk pics

Just one bull guys--he is looking over his left shoulder and you can see his browtine and the double main beam on the left side of his rack. Cool looking bull.
  15. I have my neck strap on mine and that keeps them on--with the neck strap they never come off.
  16. Here is how he died so fast opening morning: I pre-scouted for two days to find this guy--he was in the same place both days all day long and he was getting very aggressive with the little bucks. I suggested to my hunter that we go in on the east end of the ranch and glass down instead of driving through the middle of the ranch and spooking everything out of the country. We went in about 30 minutes before sun up and sat in a saddle over looking the valley below. As we were driving in i saw two white spots on the left side of the truck and up the hill about 30 yards--it was a doe and a very young buck--i knew that the buck we called Gnarly was just over the hill from these two and if he heard these two ripping around that there might be some interesting things happening very soon! As it was it had just turned 6:19 am and it was shooting light and at the same time i said we can shoot legally here comes gnarly to whoop up on the little dude. He chased the little buck off and then came back--he mounted the doe, and did his natural thing and when he got down i told my hunter to take him! one shot at 75 yards and the day was done!! That fast!! Griz--i am not sure what unit it is but i can tell you it is just north of Carazzozo and is on the Spencer Ranch. Sometimes the big game Gods just smile on you

    Arizona record bull

Marvin Zieser is an official scorer of the P&Y--if you need his number PM me and i will get it for you. He lives in north Phoenix.
  18. TJ, It all depends on how many hunters we have that need a tag. It would be wonderful if we had no hunters for tags but that isn't the case. We usually have 6 or 7 kids that want to hunt and most want an elk. I hope that helps--basically there is no set number of how many tags can be transfered it only depends on the need of the tag.
  19. You can only kill one deer a year and with a bow you already have--the youth hunter that will be getting the tag has not there fore his or her name will be transfered to that tag and essentially it was as if it never belonged to the hunter who shot his deer with his/her bow. I hope i explained that clear??
  20. We have a hunter looking for a mule deer tag!! That will work great! Email me if you can and let me know when you plan on sending it to us--we then will contact the hunter to let them know and work out the details of the hunt. Thanks again folks!!

    Do Bucks smell better??

I agree with Amanda but at the same time when a doe drops their fawns they are some of the most spooky deer i have seen. I think it depends on the time of year too--if a deer is in the rut he could care less about the different smells--he has one thing on his mind and it is the does that will save his bacon because they will take him away from you by simply retreating to a safe zone.

    Trail Cameras

I think the main point is "are hunters bringing the animals in to the camera?" if the animals are there then the camera is only telling us if they are doe or buck--if, however, we use a supplement to draw the animals to the camera then there might be an argument. Cameras by themselves will not change the animals behavior nor will it cause that animal to be killed easier--it just shows the picture of the animal and nothing else. The second question i would ask is "does using cameras near waterholes cause an animal to be taken more readily?" and to that i say no, reason being is the hunter still has to do his or her part to take that animal. The animal comes and goes to the waterhole when he wants to not when the hunter wants him to so there is no way to know if that bull or buck will be there when you setup on the waterhole. I use the cameras to see what the animals look like--nothing more. I have rarely seen a pattern of an animal on my cameras--and sometimes i may see one bull only once in 3 months on a camera--same goes for mule deer bucks. Whitetails are easier to pattern but it is not a gimme by any means. Good thread Doug.
