Under 100. Most from working up a load and a few deer.

    Not one dam elk

Having grown up and lived in the country my whole life, I can say 8 sucks. Used to be my favorite unit, but quality has gone down. 10 is starting to head that direction now, which is too bad. Maybe we can get G&F to up the tag numbers, that seems to be their go to answer!

    Elk behavior

Always been a tough unit unless you knew where to look. Your biggest foe, is G&F. They have pounded those elk for too many years now. Numbers are down, quality has been thrown out. You know its tuff when the locals that spend their time out there are struggling! Sorry it didn't work out for you, but like you said "maybe next year". Maybe G&F can increase tags to help out!

    Female Lions

I agree with the too many tags comment. Whether its a general deer or elk hunt it seems like a Black Friday sale during these hunts. The excuse from G&F for the tag numbers.... ranchers! Ranchers complain about competition of (mostly elk) wildlife toward their cattle. So their fix, MORE TAGS! Since when did game and fish get in the ranching game? Ideas like we can shorten seasons to add more hunts start to come about. So instead of a hunt that has 750-1000 tags that runs for 10-14 days, they can shorten the hunt to add another with the same number of permits! Lions will kill for food. They always have, even back in the 80's when deer populations were through the roof. Like many other locals here in Northern Arizona, I'm crying "Too many tags!" Its time to lay off a little! I know a few guys that have always been die hard hunters that are now in their mid 30-40's that are no longer applying, just because quality has hit a low, and the crowds have hit a high.

    Need Advice

Best tip I can throw out there is keep your back to the wind. If a coyote comes in and doesn't see you, he will circle downwind of the call every time. If your face is to the wind, they may be smelling you before you can see them.

    Female Lions

On top of what Flatlander and 25-06 said, leaving the females increases your chance of killing a big male down the road. If you know where some females are, you will eventually cut a good tom track as he comes in looking for a date. A tom is not much different than a lot of us, always on the lookout for food and a date? Kill the females, and you lose your male magnets.

    Unit 9 early rifle

Only problem I can see with her wanting to do it with a muzzleloader is trying to take a follow up shot. Most the country in that unit is gonna put you in tight quarters with the elk anyway. Not many places where you can take a long shot. I think a muzzleloader is do-able, and I hate muzzleloaders! www.muleybulloutfitters.com

    late archery strategies

I kinda like these late hunts. What unit? Water can be tough this time of year as a lot of elk will start hitting them at night.

It's been bedded and the rings are lapped. The one thing it does need is a trigger. I don't like the trigger that's on it and was always gonna change it out, but ended up picking up a 300 RUM that I got shooting just as good, only further so this gun only gets shot before the hunts start to make sure nothings changed, then gets used as a backup. Just bought a bass boat and looking to put some graphs on it. That's the only reason I'm selling this rifle. I almost have enough stashed away to buy one of the two graphs I want, if I end up buying the graphs before I sell this rifle, then I'm gonna keep it.
