    THEYRE UP

5b north cow tag nov. 30th..
  3. My question is why my deer meat would taste gamie, I will give you the steps that were under my control. I have harvested a few coues deer in the past ten years mostly down south but for some reason after cooking this years deer meat it has a real gamie taste. Seriously, If anybody has any advice so this won't happen again pls advise, but it just might be, "it is what it is", maybe...thx.. Killed deer in 24A bottom of canyon Nov.11th. One shot, field dressed immediately and quartered deer. Put meat in game bag. It took a good three plus hours to get meat to truck. Washed off meat with water hose (first time I ever used water hose to clean off meat). Put meat back in game bag and hung over night (padded meat somewhat dry). Got back to Phoenix Nov 12, wrapped meat in freezer paper and stored meat in freezer. Took meat to meat processor 2/07. Game meat taste real gamie for some reason and the taste stays with you for a while. Thanks and meat will not go to waste.
  4. Just thought I would share this, I was looking to see if there was any Popular Surplus stores still here in phoenix or on-line I really liked there cloth type game bags and I ran into this article about game meat. "Once home, I always use a mixture of warm water and vinegar to wipe down my meat. It cleans and sterilizes all at the same time. Trust me, it doesn’t leave your meat tasting like vinegar" Reference; http://www.caryongamebags.com/newsletter1.htm

The rifle is a Remington 30-06 SPRG GameMaster Model 760 Pump Action..bought it used at Weapons Works on 19th ave and Glendale ave. it's nice and light.. but my favorite is still my Pre-64 bolt action .270...I really like the trigger feel. thx
  7. Thanks for all the responses. If I had to do it all over again I would probably not use a water hose to clean off meat. I did take deer meat to a meat cutting school where they are being trained under the guidance of a real meat cutter. (it was packaged very nicely 39 cents a pound). "I know you get what you pay for". I'm slowly getting around to maybe meat cutting my own game, I ordered a DVD from Colorado Game and Fish about de-boning and meat cutting. Any information or resources on game processing please pass it on. I did not take the backstraps to the meat cutter so it will be interesting to see if there is a taste difference. Coosefan-- One shot and the deer ran about thirty yards and fell. Again thanks for responding.
  8. Cool photo, if my eyes are correct and they are both whitetails, there coats have a different shade of color.

    Any luck?

Hunted 24A seen a nice spike the first day decided not to take it. Second day saw a few does and a couple of forky's, I was at the bottom of canyon and finally decided to take one of the forky's around 11AM. I figured I had enough day light to pack it out. I enjoyed my hunt the weather was unbelievable and I got a great work out packing that meat out. Looking forward to next year.
  13. I drew 24A haven't hunted up there in a long time I will be walking the hills in a few places come November. I hope it snows about 12 inches. Good luck.

    30b coues deer

Jefftrucker12 I was in your same situation about 11 years ago, missed a beautiful whitetail buck in middle march canyon on a sunday morning just across the main creek, the deer are there not many but the one's that are, are fairly good size and smart. You need to scout at least once. Nice area with some history. Good luck.

What the Heck... I have worked for the City of Phoenix for the last 18 years, the last 16 at Sky Harbor Airport started off as an air-conditioning-tech, also did a/c side jobs for a lot of years as some of you others have stated. Got into supervision for few years, got out of air-conditioning and into bagage handling sytems, presently working as the facilities division liasion for the Explosive Detection System project, basically a high tech way of checking baggage for explosive's which will be totally automated from ticket counter to outbound plane. I might be managing the baggage handling system in the near future, I don't know if that is good or bad yet. And I don't get any discounts from the airlines, the city would frown on that. 34A Middle hunt

    CWD in Az.

Sorry about Jake Good, guess it was going to hit arizona eventually to bad it had to take someone. I took my deer head to game & fish to test for cwd, I waited around for them to visually view one of the pitutary glands at the base of the skull, there visual indicated the deer was healthy, I didn't suspect that the deer had a problem I was just near game & fish and figured why not take the head there. They did send me a report about two months later. I wonder what action game & fish will take?

    Deer in unit 24A

Ruger, It's sounds like you know there are deer in 24A, I was out scouting pig and hunting quail at the same time a couple of weeks ago in 24A plenty of sign and visual's of both deer species and pig, saw a few nice fat pigs, boy it's nice and green up there. I usually go south for the grey ghost because the draw percentages are better. Ruger go south . Amanda, After scouting for pig I decided to drive up to the Timber Camp area, I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful it was. I didn't go to far the roads were very muddy (traveling solo). I receive the Globe paper and glanced that they (?) are thinking about making it a recreation area or something in that order, in your opinion will it affect hunters? Hopefully the pigs will still be there in fourteen day's I will e-mail photo of the Timber Camp area (didn't see much sign). Post if you wish.
