    New Hunting Opportunity in Mexico!

Amanda, Have you discussed the class of Deer that have been taken or seen on the ranch with anyone? Photos will help if you are able to obtain any. Is this group reputable? Any additional information would help, as I am definitely interested. Not having time to process and take my owne rifle, along with no photos/testimonials/firt hand observation makes it tough. Thanks Amanda, Todd

    San Carlos Coues Licenses

I think the tags go on sale December 27th. You should not have to be in line three days in advance for one of the early tags, as I purchased one via the mail for this past season in the first week of January. However, if you are looking for a rut hunt, you will need to be at the department in person. I fi were you, either drop me an email, or contact Hilda at the San Carlso Recreation and Wildlife office with your questions. Best of luck and let me know if I can be of any help to you. Todd

Leupold VX-III help with a decision

Amanda, I have the exact scope you bring up in conversation and I really have enjoyed it for both my Elk and Coues hunts which were successful. The scope that I currently have on my Weatherby .30-.378 is not the long range adjustable model, but it is the Vari-X III with Boone & Crockett reticle. The scope has the 40mm objective due to the fact that it would sit too high to comfortably shoot for me if the scope had a 50mm objective. As to how accurate the B&C reticle would be for your specific loads, I cannot help you with this particular question. Best of luck!!
  4. Here a couple photos of two deer my friend and I harvested on The San Carlos Reservation. Enjoy! Todd

    San Carlos Success

Our bucks were taken in Unit B of The San Carlos Reservation. We shot the deer within 2 minutes of one another and they both scored within 1.5" gross of one another. Mine was a little over 96", shot at 358 yards and John's was a little shy of 96", shot at +/-400 yards. We were not fortunate enough to see any lions; however, we were fortunate enough to have been able to experience a great hunt with one another along with our two close friends, on a land that is unexplainably beautiful. The people of The San Carlos welcomed us and were helpful throught our adventure. We would like to thank everyone who offered advice, ideas and drections as related to our hunt. We would especially like to thank deerspuds, rabidapache and apache7mm; however, we made our moves based on scouting and an area that we hiked into and could not pass up. Thank you to everyone! Todd

    San Carlos

I actually have a San Carlos tag which opens this Saturday. And, as jlhcoues stated, it depends on what you want out of your hunt, along with what you are going to put into the hunt. The San Carlso is vast in both area and topography, offering such a beautiful and diverse landscape. So the questions would be, "what do you want out of your hunt? What are your expectations if you were to hunt the San Carlos in 2006 or 2007? Let us know and we will look forward to hearing back from you! Best of luck and welcome!!

    Reservation units A and B

TREESTANDMAN, I will be on The San Carlos for most of November, preparing for my hunt that starts on 11/19/2005. I will share with you what I encounter and look forward to spreading good news! Best of Luck!

  13. I have a San Carlos Coues tag this year in November. Has anyone hunted the area in previous years? Is anyone hunting the San Carlos this year, or have had the opportunity to get to the San Carlos Reservation this year for anything? I am sure the Reservation will be producing exception game in terms of health, size and numbers, as are most areas in Arizona. I can't wait! Looking forward to your responses on this topic and thank you in advance for your posts.

    Circus hunt

I too had the 5BN (Marshall Lake Hunt Area) antlerless elk tag and agree that it was a circus. The hysteria was simply due to the number of people in a concentrated area. But, it made me hunt harder and in a different way from my original plan, which was good. And thankfully, I killed a two year old yesterday afternoon. Now, I cannot wait for my San Carlos Coues hunt in November. Have a great Fall!

    I got my elk

Dave, Can I get a little credit for taking you into a very productive area of your drawn WM unit, along with actually getting you on this bull pre-season? Todd
  17. I will be hunting the San Carlos in November for Coues and would appreicate any advice offered. I am not seeking information to make this an easy hunt, only looking to gain knowledge from other hunters that might make my hunt more efficient, enjoyable and successful. I will be hunting Units A, B and C. What kind of antler growth, numbers and overall reports does anyone have from the San Carlos this year? Thank you all in advance for your help!
